It's a great start, you should really just keep practicing. The best way to learn how to do proportions is to practice drawing simple outlines of people, with just circles for joints and lines for limbs. It really helps to draw from other pictures to get the right look of something, if you can't figure it out on your own.

rofl, just to annoy xenthos, i'm going to say him and him alone is rediculous, while i will spell ridiculous correctly for everyone else.

To sum up:

Xenthos = rediculous
Everyone else = ridiculous

@Ashai: Thanks, that's a good idea, I've already done that a bit for the wings and the joint between the hood and the cloak, which I'm not very proud of. But I'll practice some and maybe I won't be so ridiculous anymore! pfft.gif

Glad to see you didn't take it to heart sunshine. murphy.gif

Better than the old Murphy, at any rate!

Pretty much everything Murphy says is not to be taken seriously. That's why we tolerate his heavily depressing and insulting nature smile.gif. Ain' i' cude?

I've been around for quite a while now actually, I know Murphy despite never meeting him! Rawr.

PS: Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and advice, but if anyone would like to comment on it further or suggest an improvement, I'm always open to it! wink.gif

Nice concept. You took on a lot of challenging subject matter in taking up this task wink.gif Wings can be difficult, but I'd sugges looking at photos of birds. When you get the feather patterns right, even slightly, they look bad ass! Hoods are difficult too, but they give you the possibility of making some really dynamic shadows on the face. Without getting too complicated, over all, I'd suggest focusing on your anatomy, shadows and contrast. That's what really makes a good black and white picture smile.gif References are great when you're beginning, but can be decieving when it comes to proportions and anatomy, so if you plan on making a habit of drawing, invest in some anatomical study aids (web tutorials and books etc.)

Also! Don't be discouraged by seeing other "better" artists, because nobody is born with it. Every good artist has a lot of practice behind them. Concept artists everywhere will tell you this smile.gif
