I think you should have waited to see what it did before destroying it, Ilyarin. After all, Vis went through all that hard work and didn't get to find out what it did. What -does- it do? Let our curiousities be fulfilled!

It's pure ebil!

Ignore the skin and bones it's made of!

Ignore the devastation it caused in the psat! :X

Ignore the honour lines that say "He resurrected the Soulforge to reign terror upon the world once again." and "He destroyed the Soulforge, ending its reign of terror." tongue.gif

Don't judge a doomsday device by its cover.

See: Pretty much any weapon. They're only as bad as their user! Imagine if Serenwilde could harness its power...

Psh... I think Seren's still burnt out from raising the queens. I also am not sure if they even allow that quest to be done. tongue.gif

The power of the Soulforge is that it invokes mass paranoia and speculation in the populace, causing anyone who even looks at it to start breathing out whirlwinds and turn into snails.

Oh wait, was thinking about the wrong structure.

Hm, too bad you can't make a figurine out of this one! That would be hot.

As a note, it probably took the best part of 2 odd hours to destroy it completely, and I was not alone.

Strangely, I did notice that it seemed to imply the Dread Lord would appear after destroying the Soulforge, but I saw no real sign of him. I remember seeing black lightning over Balach a little later, but I'm not sure if that was the Dread Lord or something else.

Nomnom, I think a group of 3 people could destroy it easily, with one doing the bashing in Duum part, then calling the other 2 for the quick bashingtrip in Muud, then someone to fly up and put the tear in.
Ilyarin2008-01-08 19:40:11
Right. I didn't say or imply that wasn't possible. *eye*
Ashteru2008-01-08 19:46:07
Kayyyy, it's doable alone too, as long as you got spores to a later part of Muud. (And are a tanky Demi with a circlet and some time to pull the globules)
Ilyarin2008-01-08 20:03:00
I'm a tanky Ascendant with a circlet and I can hardly bear to do the globules alone. sad.gif That's the bit I classified as requiring more than one person for. Spores, cheater.
Morgfyre2008-01-08 20:33:46
Methinks there is a problem with that strategy. cool.gif

*sniffle* I don't like withering mushroom circles. I like my spores! Especially to the exit.

IMHO it should be harder to raise than to destroy, though perhaps not by as significant an amount as it is now, if only because it's apparently very devastating . Personally I see it as a quest that really shouldn't be done by anyone

Absolutely no quest should EVER fall into this category. All quests should be rewarding and enticing enough to do, and based on my determinations about the Soulforge, it's enticing but it's too hard.

It would be very easy to bring the quest in line so that there's still a lot more effort to raise it than destroy it. It is innately harder than the destructo quest simply by virtue of being significantly longer. I sat down and came up with two scenarios.

On the off chance Morgfyre/Estarra reads this, as someone who's intimately familiar with both sides of the quest, I strongly encourage these changes. I'll offer two balance propositions, one that deals with removing the moon cycle requirement and one that doesn't(if that's a crucial part of the lore):

Option A (Remove Moon phase req):
1) Reduce the cloier strength to a high-end mob that's killable by a mid-sized group (couple of people, perhaps decently harder than the event form). Target numbers should be 6-8 people
2) Add one more Nagakali spawn (as it stands it takes 3 respawns to get the right amount of them. Every other mob in the quest line requires two respawns or less worth)
3) Add 5 more trematodes to the boil summoning pool (currently it takes 2 respawns to get the appropriate amount, every other npc out of muud requires just one respawn worth using the boils)
4) Fix bug that causes Melpith to spontaneously reset the status of Naga turned in.

Net Result: A ~4 hour project requiring a solid group to get the pieces from Muud, doable at any time.

Option B (Moon Phase req stays):

1) Reduce the amounts needed on everything by half. This cuts it to requiring just one clear through.
2) Reduce the strength on the cloier to a small group. This should be aimed at 2-3 people, slightly harder than event form.
3) Add one more Nagakali spawn.
4) Fix bug that causes Melpith to spontaneously reset the status of Naga turned in.

Net Result: A ~2 hour project requiring a solid group to get pieces from Muud, doable 7 hours out of every 32.

I strongly support option A. I have no problem with a higher time investment if it's not about waiting until 2am and I can pick my timing. As it stands, the biggest block in the entire quest is dropping the cloier, and making it moon dependent means that you're gonna often end up with not enough people when the time is right.

I -completely- agree with you... But I don't think the admin do. If they did, they'd have done something with the undervault. I just don't think they care about having people do the quests, as long as the quests are there to do, it's the players who are at fault for not doing them, and the admin is okay with that philosophy. We may see one or two tweaks, but I have a feeling it's already off the devs' schedule. Out of sight, out of mind, so it's a good thing you're pushing right now.

I support!
