Staff of Brilliance Lost

A gold and black staff rests here, throbbing with an inner life and energy.

A black serpent winds around the length of this staff, its polished onyx scales picked out with lifelike detail. The rod itself appears to be made of a muted gold, the faint aureate contrasting under the reptilian coils. A hood-like shield fans out from the top, tapering away to rejoin the centre, and curved ridges provide a comfortable grip behind the guard. The surface of the escutcheon is prominently etched with two stags bounding over the form of the Ouroboros, the serpent's likeness identical to the one that jealously claims the weapon. Floating above the guard, a crystalline orb glows with sickly energy that pulses like some baleful heartbeat.

edit: Meh, rush job. I usually take hours working up a design. The sentences don't flow very smoothly at the beginning, and I think I could squeeze in more thematic verbage.

Just for clarification, Daganev. You do realize this is a Staff with a shield melded too it right?

Really? Maybe I'm playing too much Dynasty Warriors, but I'm picturing it looking pretty much like Cao Ren's weapon(s).
