All it says it it makes a room private, but what's that mean?

Does it stop you from being scried? Or just showing up on things like ThirdEye? Does it stop CLWHO, or CWHO or even GWHO?

100 credits for an artifact, but I don't wanna get one without even knowing what exactly it's supposed to get me. Already wasted 500 credits on a cloaking module that way.
Ildaudid2008-01-13 22:21:34
Does nothing, the imms still can spy on you in that room, no plotting their doom or doing the dirty with d'murani's without people knowing tongue.gif
Xavius2008-01-13 22:28:37
It's roomwide INVOKE BLUE. There are very few things it could protect against, and most of those things it doesn't protect against anyways.

100 credits...for that? What a waste.

Well, know what I won't be buying then.

Its wierd that they still sell it. Or that they have invoke blue. The skills it used to protect against, like mindsense and angel mindread don't exist in this game.
Ildaudid2008-01-14 00:39:40
You know I am not sure what it does other than blue. But I know I could bond listen in rooms that had one, so I don't really see any point in it.

If it stopped scrying, all types of spying (players and administration, and newbie guide ), and anything else that would violate privacy I would say mebbe.... but I know it doesn't stop a simple bond listen, so I doubt it stops anything else.
Veonira2008-01-14 00:45:28
It would be neat to have it prevent any form of spying, things like eavesdropping, thought stealers, scrying, dreamweavers, etc. Maybe at a higher cost, but then it would actually be worth buying for something like an office or council room (and prevent the annoying destruction of RP plots!)

Invoke Blue and Privacy Gems really should give some protections. This should be brought up at an Envoy meeting. I think a 100 credit artifact should have a use. Now that we finally have a stealth skillset, some of these planned defenses for spying should work.

Envoy "meetings" (or Summits) are generally only called for Large Issues That Cannot Be Dealt With Normally. The topic is determined in advance, and there's not really any deviation to Other Things.

Though I've been told that the privacy gem stops a Divine in their Roleplaying form from doing the "Listen from a distance" thing, and that's its only effect. Even with that being the case, though, it doesn't stop them from being invisible and standing in the room listening. No real way to actually confirm this, though.

From a previous discussion, it stops eavesdropping via portrait reading (like anyone does that anyway in an important room). It is also supposed to stop people from listening in via pets, i.e. hounds, owls.
Shiri2008-01-14 01:55:12
Has anyone here ever used portrait reading ever? Other than just testing that it works? I'm honestly curious.

I tried to test it once, but it was pointless because I was like the only enchanter who at the time bothered going in there to do work (dark room). Everybody just walked on by. (Reiha was still too shy to ask people for help back then blush.gif )

So, ummm, no. For me.
Unknown2008-01-14 05:25:03
Very rarely are there really convenient meetings to eavesdrop on with portrait reading, in my experience.
Eldanien2008-01-14 05:56:19
On the other hand, a portrait of the nexi rooms could be amusing to keep in one's home hangout, or guild office. I'd intended to have various portraits (Pool, guildhall meeting rooms) made for that purpose when I was doing the Administrator with Psymet thing, but it wound up on the backburner and ignored.

It doesn't work like that, or it would actually be pretty good. It involves paired portraits, so it's mainly for um...listening to people saying "TOUCH PAINTING to get to Delport" while in Delport, or...yeah, I don't think there are any other uses.

laugh.gif Yes, because that happens all the time giggle.gif

Anyway, gem is useless unless you wanna send the admins "I really want my privacy while mudsecking" signal.

That... seems like a serious waste of code. Toss it in the 'fix skills' bin along with so many other things.

Wouldn't people being able to get into your office with a simple TOUCH PAINTING possibly have been a bad idea? Besides, the Pool is outdoors. No paintings.
Eldanien2008-01-14 23:08:25
I was under the impression it worked on unenchanted paintings of a location. The only time I tested it was with enchanted paintings, but having the power only work on enchanted paintings seemed pointless, which is why I assumed it worked on singletons.

Ah well.
