Marriages

I propose that guildmasters be given the power to perform marriage rituals. Right now, it's only Divine, and people who have been given the power in their Orders. A lot of the time I find people who have been waiting for IG months or years trying to find someone to conduct the ritual. Think we should extend this power to (soon-to-be) 20 other people. Even if one of the couple needs to be part of the guild that the conducting GM is in.

I think only the Guardian/Wiccan class GM's should....seems more fitting

Why? You couldn't imagine a brute like Thoros out marrying people? suspicious.gif
Munsia2008-01-14 09:47:19
Nope! But my theory on that is based on the entire Priest thing...then again that'd actually be Guardian/Druid huh? Since aren't druids considered 'priests' of some sort?

Edit: Or is that clerics?
Shiri2008-01-14 09:48:13
You're confusing Lusternia and random things like D&D.
Unknown2008-01-14 09:50:09
I think you are making this more difficult than it needs to be!

Wiccans are the Guardian counterpart of communes. But yes, all GMs should be able to perform marriages.
Eldanien2008-01-14 10:40:23
This does seem like a notable problem. Perhaps allow the captains (owners) of aetherships to marry, given a certain minimum level/play time. Or perhaps set up an artifact that allows guardians/wiccans to perform marriages.

But at least 'priest' archetype GMs, and I have no problems at all with the notion of every GM having the ability.
Verithrax2008-01-14 14:46:22
Captains of aetherships would be an interesting addition to this.

GMs, definitely. The non-guardian/wicca GMs would be very much equivalent to judges of the peace and other secular officials with the power to officiate marriages. Maybe even let secretaries in Wicca/Guardian guilds do it.

Technically, we have no "priest" archetype. Of course, the guardians have a sort of priestly thing, but that's no reason to give them marriage capabilities over the other GMs, given that they're priests of the Cosmic Lords, not of the Gods.
Daganev2008-01-14 20:29:26
Don't forget commune/city leaders.
Rika2008-01-14 20:41:09
Right, them too.

Let's add the blackjack and roulette dealers to this list, but only if you're drunk.

I don't think it should be limited to just Guardians/Wiccans. Most guilds have a spiritual/religious side to them (even the Serenguard, and that's saying something), so why not have the leader of the guild be able to marry? It would be sort of like captains being able to marry people on their ships-- they aren't priests, but they have that social function.
Callia2008-01-15 04:04:27
A US Navy captain (position not rank) can to this day officiate marriages, they are just don't very often.
Tajalli2008-01-15 04:13:51
Judges in the US can also do marriages.

I don't see why GM's shouldn't be permitted. And the CL.
