You know what could happen, right?

The average rate of marriages would shoot up from 1 a RL month to 1 every three days.
The average number of divorces one has would go from 1-2 to 6-7.

Do you really think the current speed of marriage and divorce rates is in any way limited by the availability of orderheads and gods?

Technically, we have no "priest" archetype.

You haven't met many Moondancers!

What I meant by that was that while we do have archetypes that are the worshippers of the Cosmic Lords/Spirit Avatars, we have no direct analogue to vicars/clergy, except for those in Divine Orders, which the Guardians and Wiccans are utterly unrelated with. People were drawing a parallel between leaders of worship in RL and the Worship-themed guilds in Lusternia, which therefore draws a parallel between the deities of RL religions, and the Lords/Avatars, which is incorrect, as Gods in Lusternia are, well, Gods (their worshippers being the Orders).

There was also a hint of semantics in there, in that none of the archetypes are called "Priest". tongue.gif

They are, however, called Wiccans/Guardians, and the leader of a group of Wiccans could quite reasonably be referred to as a "Priest/Priestess" of a sort.

Not to mention "High Priest of the Moon," etc.

It has also been pointed out that it doesn't require a priest to perform a marriage-- not many ship captains are priests, after all.

Sure we have priests! All you have to do is reach GR5 in the Celestines and voilà!

But since, you know, Lusternia != real life, we could have any rules we want related to this kind of thing. Just don't give it to secretaries, I don't want to be harassed.

Maybe it'd be fun if there could be an equivilant to a Justice of the Peace, who's like a civil servent who can marry you IRL. Make it a subset of one of the Ministries - Steward maybe? - and the Aides can marry people like JPs do.

Or maybe like how anyone can go online and fill out an application and pay a fee and become an ordained minister and marry folks - maybe there can be some license you can buy with a huge bunch of credits where you can marry people.

Or maybe not. laugh.gif

Still think the simplest solution is to give GMs the power.
Tzekelkan2008-01-16 00:19:03
Solution? Is this a major problem?

I agree that were there the ability to conduct marriages given to 20 more people (I know that technically, several of them already have the ability what with being in Orders and all), the 'sanctity' of the marriage would drop even lower than it is now (if ever so slightly, I know) - I mean, around these parts, wives have been known to slay their own husbands!

N.B. Sheia and I were married through Ayita. Ah, what fun. I miss her.
