Back to Ideas.

I know I'm new but...

Why is it we have no place on the forum for RPing? All the other RPing games I've ever played (as in ones which don't consist of ONLY a forum) have a forum for RP. Why don't we have one? We can't let them beat us.

I think Laramos means forums where you can roleplay outside the game. Where you'd make posts as your character. I played a MUD where their forums were set up like that... OOC Forums where they had chatting about the game, rants, ideas, real world stuff, basicly everything we have here and the IC Forums which were divided into City Forums, Guild Forums and Order Forums and you were expected to stay IC on that side of the Board. It worked nicely and was actually quite convienent cause you could access the forums when you weren't able to log into the game.

But then that game didn't have an internal IC News board, that's prolly the difference.

That was the first MUD I ever played and I really liked it. The only reason I stopped playing was cause they instituted a monthly subscription charge.

The funny thing is that I've prolly spent WAY more money on IRE games than I would have if I'd stayed there - I just didn't like the idea that I had to pay to play. Course, if it weren't for that I'd never have wound up here, so I'm happy with the way things worked out.

Thats not the sort of thing I was thinking of. I meant a forum where people actually RPed, not just talked about it, like on undefined . Now if we had stuff like this, that would be fun, why don't we have stuff like this? Read the whole thing and you will wish we had stuff like this.
Tzekelkan2008-01-17 23:42:19
Er, don't we have the game for roleplaying? I can see it could be fun to roleplay on the forums, but it's thrice as fun to do it in-game...
Unknown2008-01-17 23:53:18
Well, yes, but thats not the point. A forum for roleplaying has a lot of bonuses, like the concept of being whatever you wish whenever you want and being able to make anything at all with no limits as soon as you start. No strings attached. I would really like to make a bar in the forums, wouldn't that be nice...?

And furthermore, I may keep arguing this awhile just to increase the number of my posts until people would actually consider my opinion when I propose a new guild.
Tzekelkan2008-01-18 00:01:23
Oooh, that's a neat idea!

Not the roleplay forum one though. tongue.gif
Unknown2008-01-18 00:05:49
Which is a good idea? The bar or the posting so that eventually when I unleash my mastermind plan which has taken me about 5 minutes to hatch and has been worked on for about 5 hours everyone will actually consider it instead of stabbing me to death?
Tzekelkan2008-01-18 00:11:49
The posting.

Though I wouldn't worry about the stabbing to death, since there are apparently no more damage warriors around. And even if there were, critical hit runes don't work after level 95. Worry more about the monks, novice bards and the mudsexers. Oh, and Jasato making my protege disappear.

So, how do you like the game? smile.gif
Unknown2008-01-18 00:14:26
Well, when I went to the Imperian forums and suggested it, I basically got 5 crippling critiques within 10 minutes and absolutely no agreement.

Besides, theres one other use to a roleplaying forum...

With a roleplaying forum, it would be a lot easier for everyone to gain posts without having to suggest an opinion, idea, guide, question, answer, poll, or destrucion-of-dragonkind.
Noola2008-01-18 00:21:19
Laramos... did you just break up one post into two? laugh.gif

Post count isn't all that important really, you know. The only advantage to having a high one is the ability to change the little phrase under your Avatar. If you post an idea people will consider it and discuss it. If it's a good idea, you'll know. If it needs work, people will let you know that too.

And by the way, critiques aren't a bad thing. People pointing out the problems with an idea aren't trying to belittle you. They're just stating why the idea as-is wouldn't work. It's up to you then to either give up on the idea or to tweak it. (I only state this because there's been problems before with people thinking that disagreeing with an idea of theirs meant that they were flaming them - which just isn't true.)

Roleplay Forum: Suggested before, turned down before-- the main thing is, would this roleplay forum be tied to the game? If yes, that's bad precedent. You don't want to encourage people to forum-roleplay, because it further weakens the IC/OOC barrier. If it's not tied to the game... well, you could easily make your own forum that doesn't use up Lusternia's bandwidth.

New Guild: Suggested before. We have far too many guilds as-is, and one more still on the way. We should be merging guilds, not adding more, really!

Posting lots so people will "pay attention": If you do it too much, Moderators will probably start merging your back-to-back posts. Also, post count isn't really taken into account when critiquing ideas.
Unknown2008-01-18 00:24:00
Yes, as I matter of fact, I did just split one post into two, and I may do it again. I really wish we had a bar... has anyone even looked at that link I put up here?
Tzekelkan2008-01-18 00:24:02
I do think he was joking around about the guild and seriousness things though, don't be so harsh.

(Though I'll admit double posting is not good tongue.gif )

EDIT: I have looked at the link, but I'm not particularly enchanted by the idea. I already have a lot of reasons in real life to distracted me from Lusternia (or was it the other way around? Hmm) so meh. It wouldn't bother me if there were that kind of a forum, it's just that I wouldn't participate much personally.
Unknown2008-01-18 00:25:03
I haven't suggested a new guild...

Was I harsh? sad.gif I didn't mean to be. I thought it was funny he did that. losewings.gif And I was trying to be helpful about the ideas thing...

He was either serious, or created this specifically to get his post count up. Either way, the response is a reasonable critique of the three ideas presented.

Though it is seeming like it's turning into a post-farming thread. I expect the posts will get merged soon enough.
Shayle2008-01-18 00:45:53
I never understood post farming.

*post farms*
Xavius2008-01-18 00:56:11
Post farming is amusing. Doubly so when you consider how much time the locals spend on the forums. It's not like we're not all going to see this thread. I expect lots of sarcastic fawning over his post count and no one actually looking at his guild proposal when he posts it.

Anyways...why bother with a roleplay forum? It can't reflect the game, because the forums don't exist in the game. If you want to interact with people in writing, use the newsboards. Use letters. Use piping on cakes if you have to. If you just want generic RP not related to Lusternia, there's a whole slew of forums set up just for that purpose.
