... I realize that, I'm saying maybe Amazon found out the more specific release date and Gamespot hasn't updated theirs yet.

You mean it's no longer suspended indefinitely?

Oh sweet, I didn't realize it was coming out for the Wii. If it has online support that'll be awesome.

Gamespot still has the release date as Q2 2008, but maybe Amazon knows something they don't.

Actually, it's really quite simple: Amazon probably doesn't know the exact release date either, but they know it is intended to be launched some time in Q2 2008. I believe that in order to sell pre-orders of a game (or book) in the U.S., the company selling the game (in this case Amazon) must have a release date, regardless of if that release date is what the publishers intended.

Later, when the publisher determines when they actually want the release date, Amazon updates their release date accordingly.

Here here.

They've been planning Spore since 2004... or earlier.

Since well before.

See, I thought that too, and then I went, wait a second. What if he doesn't mean what I immediately am jumping to what I think he means, because if I said something, I'd look like a jerk, and he very well could have possibly meant...

...oh wait, there it is. Jerk-dom for Richter averted. smile.gif

On another note, I can't wait for this. Hopefully I'll have a computer of supapowa before then.
Rakor2008-01-24 03:55:07
Heh, that amazon date doesn't mean much. Spore is also coming out on the DS which will be interesting.

It's gonna be awesome though, definitely getting it for PC at some point. This is Starcraft 2 are the only 2 upcoming games I care about.

Ooo... question remains then, get it for the PS3 or Mac? frenzy.gif

(actually, I shall save the Mac for SC2 biggrin.gif)
Richter2008-02-05 05:04:15
Heh heh. My computer of supapowa I spoke of is the one I'm typing this one on. Oh yes, we'll be playing Spore.

I'm just glad they finally decided to release it. A while back it had been indefinitely delayed and put up on a dusty shelf with absolutely no release date in mind.

From my understanding, they've got all the graphics down and everything. They're just trying to make sure they stomp out as many bugs as possible.

Where's the Xbox 360 version?

The Wii version's going to suck. 1. You'll be wagging your controller around trying to get creatures to do things and end up jumping them all into a volcano. 2. The graphics are still GameCube graphics. 3. Do any Wii games have online support? Seriously? biggrin.gif

I'm going to assume you don't have HD graphics, a big screen TV, and/or a PS3/Xbox 360.

Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 looks incredible on an HD set. And neither of those games used waggled in a hokey way. Also.. have you seen Spore? It doesn't exactly require omgawesome graphics, because its using a somewhat cartoonish style. As for the "GameCube graphics" comment, that's just false. The Wii has about twice the power of a GameCube, which, while that may not reach 360 or PS3, it's still an improvement.

And yes, quite a few Wii games have very nice online.

Mario Strikers has full online support. Metroid uses a system of trading special tokens with friends to unlock stuff (which would be similar to what Spore would use). MoHH2 has a nearly lagless 16 player online mode. SSBB has lagless 4-player combat. Mario Cart is going to be running 16-player races.

Oh, and let's not forget--Wii's online is all free, unlike Live. tongue.gif
