The game falls very short of expectation. Here, where I am, in Canada the game costs 90.00$ and I am positive 50.00 of that is the very sleek and pretty case the game comes in.

The actual creature sandbox is very short and hard to get a good selection of "dna" upgrades before the stage progresses.

The game is fun, once, twice, by the third time I am spending more time screaming at bugs and glitches causing me to restart (because the save game option is a horrible design) from 3 stages back, instead of loading the game at the stage I am at, because most games have an autosave when you advance in them.

The mouse interface is backwards to any other game I play, which annoys me. The ability to change options is very limited and certainly not what I would expect in a 90.00 game. Heck, I have 15.00 games with more control over the interface than Spore has.

Aside from that, making creatures is nifty. The rest... I can make buildings and spaceships in much cheaper games with better design capabilities.

You can keep playing in the creature sandbox. My first time through, I hit "advance" too early, it told me "Warning! This is your last chance to make changes!" so I reloaded, went back and collected all the other parts.

Plus the DNA to use them.

I guess Spore is what you make of it, as with all Sandbox games. I'm still tryin to get all the badges.

Does anyone have any experience with just the creature creator? I'd rather spend the $10 for the part that interests me than $60 for the entire package. However, if not all customizable options are unlocked in the creator, I"ll wait until the price drops.

Even if you wanted all the parts from SPORE, you need to actually find them. You'd be stuck... :: Gasp :: PLAYING THE GAME!

Just wait for the price to drop. It's worth it.

It's not as if I didn't want to play the game...its just that its the creature creator that has me most interested.

Word of advice? Getting to the centre of the galaxy isn't really that worth it. Sure, neat cutscene, neat item. Two achievements, I think? But that's it. Meh. unsure.gif

.. Is spore even worth the price? I read through some reviews on Amazon.com and the DRM and the 3 activations or whatever seem to be the major issue.

It was also mentioned that the pirated copy would be the better one for above mentioned reasons. mellow.gif
Furien2008-09-16 13:06:58
The DRM won't matter a whole lot when you get bored with the game after some..four days? Sure, I guess you can't give it to many people, but system crashes (as often as I can get them) probably won't make you think 'Oh :censor:, I have to at least get Spore out!'.

... 4 days aren't worth $50 imo. mellow.gif

Besides, I -do- have a tendancy to install games 10+ times. I just installed Baldur's Gate 2 again recently for the 5-7th time ( Got bored though, so now I'm again looking for something fun I don't know yet. Suggestions are most welcome.)

Did the same to pass the time to Warhammer Online. My suggestion: Warhammer Online! <.< >.>

Hint: Grox don't like Terraforming. suspicious.gif
Hint 2: Grox you kill in one game carries over into your other saves.

Easiest way to kill a home planet-Kill the Ecosystem. Bioterrorism is the best weapon in the game evil.gif
Furien2008-09-17 23:52:26
Home planets make for damn nice Spice production, though. I periodically fly back to the like..five different ones I've conquered just to pick up 35-50 spice from the places. They produce it -way- faster than my own home planet.

I have 5 tier 3 Purple Spice producing planets with perfectly balanced cities. I make ridiculous amounts each run if I take the time to find the planet that's buying at ridiculous prices.

Don't forget a Spice Storage and make it 100 spice per trip wink.gif

Here's an idea: Find a purple spice planet that's in an uninhabited system. Terraform the planet to T3, and drop a monolith. When one of the creatures becomes a space empire, open a trade route, and buy it from them. Voila. You now have your own T3 purple spice planet with 10 colonies, each producing 132/hour or more, and able to store up to 100 spice (though you can only carry 99 at a time).
Furien2008-09-19 22:09:02
Hot.

Also, for those interested, they released Spore's first patch. Apparently makes the Creature Stage longer, and reduces the frequency of enemy/pirate attacks in the Space Stage (on Easy/Normal, that is!), amongst other things.
Daganev2008-09-19 22:31:22
Woo woo!

sounds like a patch they should have done from beta testing... wierd.

By the time I have money again, maybe the game will be all nicely fixed up.
Rauros2008-09-20 00:51:57
Unfortunately, this patch added more problems than fixes. I'm hoping soon for a patch for the patch.

Examples include invisible creatures, longer loading times, and delayed sounds, none of which happened pre-patch.
vorld2008-09-21 00:27:15
I have spore it's fun wished the sound would work though.
