We have Ilyarin. ONE is too many
Tzekelkan2008-01-31 11:07:15
No, Ilyarin is cool. Though we should interact more, I think. smile.gif

Making things harder to achieve because of a general sense that too many people are achieving said things is a good way to lose players I think.

I mean, I won't be a demi in the forseeable future, but basically punishing newer players trying to achieve something older players already have seems like a grand way to lose said newer players. Which you need.

Basically, just because as the MUD aged, more people joined the Super Adventure Club doesn't mean they should make it harder to get in.

(I assume, based on "logic" that the requirements and activities there-of of becoming a demi are, for all intents and purposes identical to the requirements and activities of the Super Adventure Club.)

hijack.gif Demigod experience loss when dying needs to go back to 250-500k please.

I couldn't support this. Some demigods do not lose any essence at all. The only thing this change would do is make it harder for some demigods to keep it while other demigods are still unaffected by essence concerns. Increasing the imbalance even more seems a bad idea.
Eldanien2008-01-31 13:17:25
And if that were changed, Catarin? Just as a hypothetical.

If it were changed then yes, I would support it wholeheartedly.
Ilyarin2008-01-31 13:32:44
That's a fair point. Dying as a demigod should cost essence no matter what, even if dying with lichseed/transmig/darkegg/whatever just reduce how much you lose.
Kharvik2008-01-31 14:34:54
I would just like to state that when I prayed at titan, I lost 26% in neutral territory (the Fulcrux). Not only do you now conglute in the fulcrux, but the xp you lose when you pray has been dropped 20%! I think bashing is easy enough as it is and you should be greatful you aren't losing 26% each time you pray. Don't be greedy. I'd support the pray loss being increased though, and a Demigod essence loss of 500k flat out like it used to be. How else are Demigod's even gonna have to FRET about losing it?

Hell, even with a 500k loss each death, the majority of Demi's would not have to worry about this.

You lose 8% when you pray at level 81.. I lose 8% when I pray at 99.

Difference is, 8% takes me 8-10 hours to get.

I don't feel anyone should lose 8 hours of work in a single death. Never have.

8% is 8% is 8%. If you don't want to lose so much XP when you die, don't have that much XP to start with..or stop dying. Seems quite logical to me. Quit pissing and moaning about rules that apply to EVERYONE.

I don't think you understand quite how this works. 8% to demigod at titan is about 10 times the experience of 8% to 81 at 80. (not wholly accurate, but in the general range.)
Malicia2008-01-31 15:19:10
Which is fine. Nothing like ganking to make some want to soften the mechanics so they feel even less a burn. I'm with Kharvik on this. Xp/essence loss should serve as a deterrent for IC actions.
Adee2008-01-31 15:20:27
I'm well aware of that. But it's still 8%. But as I've continued reading apparently they lose more than just 8%. But my point still stands:

If you don't want to lose so much XP, stop dying. Or start dying until you're about 60 or so.

Like everyone else has said, Titan and Demigod should be things that you have to WORK for. You have to put in the effort to get the reward. From an RP perspective, you've actually ascended mortality, for the most part, and have become something more! If it were so easy to get then every Tom, Dick, and Forren would be a Titan or Demi. And where's the fun and glory in that?
Kharvik2008-01-31 17:12:41
And one other I'd like to state is, you reap what you sowe. Vis, I like you, we get along. But at the same time I can't let that make me biased in a situation as this. So I will call it as I see it.

Fact is, if your places were switched and you were in Forren's shoes and he in yours, I have a feeling you would be rushing and ganking him left and right, and also taking pleasure from it, as he seems to be. Again, doesn't make it right, but with everything you have done, is this really a surprise to you that people are ganking like they are?

You said yourself you jump people all the time but that you don't feel bad since they don't have to pray. At the same time, you reap what you sowe. These people you jump and whose bashing lives you make rather miserable aren't going to sit and take it forever. They're going to stew, they're going to brood, and they're going to develop some serious negative feelings towards you. OF COURSE they will try and make you pray, it is the perfect justification in their heads. If sutations were switched again, I know nothing would be different. It's just how people are.

Had your OP Ninjakari skills not been nerfed, I don't think this thread would have ever been created in the first place. It is the ultimate downfall of a bully, that his victims will eventually rise up against him. This is why I didn't touch PK until I was pretty much a Demigod, tried to give people as little reason as possible to not touch me, and even THAT wasn't 100% foolproof (Ahem, NARSRIM).

Anyways, to sum it up, I feel for you. At the same time, I think you are just sitting right now in a hole you dug and the only thing I can say is... nothing lasts forever. Not your glory, nor your misery.

I'm not sure what that has to do with disproportionate exp loss, but ok?

Agreed. Demi isn't hard to get if you have the time, so keeping it should be somewhat of a challenge. This goes for those with lich/transmigrate and those without, although those with those skills shouldn't lose the benefit entirely. The experience loss should just be reduced (as I think someone said earlier).

It was more of a response to your other closed thread that I melded into this one. Also, it's hardly disproportionate, haven't you read anything I said? Most people used to lose 26% praying at Titan, and here you are complaining about 6 or 8%. Good grief.

And god damnit Rakor, bite me.

Actually, it is disproportionate. The fact that it's less miserable doesn't make it less disproportionate.

Assuming powerbashing, at level 100 you lose 1-1.5 hours worth of exp for an onprime "prayer" death(more technically, 250k essence). At level 99 you lose 6-8 hours worth of experience for an onprime prayer death. At level 98 you lose 2 or so horus worth of experience for an onprime prayer death.

By any definition of the word that is disproportionate. It's not as bad as 26%. But it's disproportionate to its surrounding levels.

Whether or not that's a good thing is an exercise for the reader. I feel it's not, Acrune feels it's not, many people do. hence I posted an idea because I feel it's not a good thing.
