Try aetherspace instead
Yeah, I am sure every newbie straight out of Newton can access aetherspace.
Note, my guide is directed at down-on-their-luck inexperienced characters, not credit buyers with overstuffed money packs. It's obvious that there are more profitable ways of income, but they are, as some people say, HIGH END.
I'm glad that some people really like to use a thread asking for help as an opportunity to argue with each other, instead of, y'know, actually give helpful advice.
EDIT: I am aware of the last statement's irony.

Begging sounds kinda cool! I read that you'll have a better chance of succeeding if you wear rags whilst begging. Surely your rank in influence and your character's level would also count to how good you are at begging?
Xavius2008-02-07 10:51:04
Level is relatively unimportant for influencing. The big one is your charisma stat. Next in line after that is the number of influence skills you have for the type of influence you want to do. At level 30, you probably only have begging. That's ok, though.
Charisma matters for three reasons: one, max ego. Level plays a part in this too, but a level 30 faeling is in better shape than a level 55 orclach. Two, strength of influence attacks. Three, speed of influence attacks. In bashing, you have constitution for max health, strength or intelligence for strength of attacks, and balance/equilibrium modifiers for speed of attacks. For influence, charisma covers all three. Because of the importance of charisma, if your charisma stat is low, you shouldn't really invest in influene at level 30. Anything 13 or above should work, though.
Like everything else, if it looks powerful, it probably is. Don't try to influence big things until you're comfortable.

what type of things can i beg from?
Xavius2008-02-07 11:21:54
Anything sentient and not trying to kill you. Use common sense for that one. Can you beg from an animal? Can you beg for gold from the man who's trying to rob you in a dark alley?
Strength-wise, I would suggest sticking with children and unnamed women in the villages and denizens in areas that you can hunt, like Tolborolla.

Begging gives pitiful money - don't count on it in terms of cash-making. It is mostly useful for utility: why make an errand for an NPC to cough up a quest item when you can beg it off them?
Kharaen2008-02-07 12:42:51
You beg best from people that are charitable...so the Tosha monks, estelbar furrikin, and desert dracnari, and kephera are the best spots to beg from. Begging is influencing, and when you influence you get experience, karma, and esteem. Once you have 100% esteem, you can imbue it in a bottle or tinderbox and sell it from anywhere to 7-15k. They go fast.
And begging isn't pitiful gold...I know I can make up to 10k when I do a Tosha run. Almost as good as killing.

hahaha well i must be really bad at begging then, because i tried to beg from a furrikin and i failed. i have 12 charisma. maybe i should try and find some rags to wear. anyone know where i could get/buy some? ive looked in a few shop around celest but had no luck
Kharaen2008-02-07 13:35:33
Just influence in the nude wearing maybe a backpack. And 12 is low, you might want to try getting Netzach if you use Highmagic and getting a Beauty karma blessing to boost up your charistma.

12 charisma is pretty low, so you'll have to work at it a bit. You can't just make rags, you have to have a piece of clothing mended by a tailor a lot until it reaches such a run down state that it ends up as rags.

how can i work on my charisma?
Kharaen2008-02-07 15:01:49
HELP KARMA. In Avechna's peak there are several different seals, each which affect you in some manner when you seek their blessing (costing 50% karma, and 1% upkeep per hour). Beauty seal is on the path of dreams, I believe. Beauty increases charistma, knowledge intelligence, harmony exp gain...and so on.

Clothing doesn't afflict you that much, unless you are wearing very rich stuff and jewelery - that makes begging a bit tricky. But anyway, charisma and your rank in Influencing are far more important. Your level matters too, because you have very little ego on low levels.
And seriously, from an economist's point of view, influencing isn't too hot. Gold from monks, I can agree with that - sure, you can earn it much quicker with questing, but quests tend to be closed most of the time while monks are often uninfluenced. But selling imbued bottles and other stuff - really... even if it was worth 15 thousand, getting 100% esteem takes AGES. In the mean time I can earn 50 or even 100 thousand gold just by doing quests and normal hunting.
It's still a good side income, just don't think about it as your main one.

You can get over 100% esteem in one monk run So 25k for the run

The best advice I have for you to make gold is to first build up your levels. I got my seren alt from level 20-55 in a very short time just in the nexus world. Once you've gotten your level up to around 60 there and through other assorted hunting areas (like spectres and the spiking quest in Magnagora), then you can hit up some of the better gold-mining areas, like the Moors and eventually Merian/Gorgog (or just Gorgog for most people).
If we're strictly talking just having a decent income, some of the quests I mentioned like spectres can be done at your level even and have decent payout, and you can hunt and supplement the gold from hunting with a quest here and there from the different villages.
You can also make insane profits with a trade skill if you are transcendent and -very- devoted to it, but that of course involves time and lessons.

Actually, being completely naked is bad because the denizen is so caught up being disgusted at you that it hinders your influence. I'm not 100% on this claim, but I recall hearing something about it a while back. If you check STAT, you'll see a "From the clothing you're wearing you look
For improving charisma by other ways, the only real path is to reincarnate. As a paladin, Rituals has Fortuna which is a random +stat and Populus, which will grant +1 CHA. Highmagic has Netzach which is also +1 CHA. I'm 99% sure all three are weighted, so you'll need +2 buffpoints (HELP BUFFS for that whole nasty system) to reach a net of +3 and really isn't worth it at your point in the game.
Anticipating question: How to get karma? Do quests, offer corpses, imbue esteem. You'll receive a note saying that "your karma has increased in response to your deeds" but gaining karma is a fairly slow process at early levels, so don't be surprised if you're not gaining a full % every time you do something. Even for me at lvl 86, a full Xion run (~70 or so high level corpses) is only about 8% karma.
Bael2008-02-08 03:52:30
Im pretty sure the best thing to have for begging is nondescript or common.

I usually aim for common or nondescript when begging, look like royalty for everything else. Beauty karma blessing, harass me next time you see me IG and I'll take you to the Seals where we all get the shiny karma blessings. Be sure you have about 60% karma though, since it's 50% to bless, 1%/blessing/hour to upkeep (total karma cost/hour = blessings^2). HELP KARMA for reading up on all of those.
indeed, you best be wearing rags!
