Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some help from some of the workers in the playerbase. I've tried google, and salary.com, and it wasn't very helpful for some indeterminable reason. So, I pose the question to you, my friends, foes and respectable 9-5ers! happy.gif

I'm an accountant, I have 2 years of experience and I just got a raise last October, when I was about 1/4-1/2 of the way finished with the CPA exam. I'll be a fully licensed CPA in roughly 45 days, so, when the license is in hand, I'd like to ask for another raise... I just don't know how much to ask for. Does anyone have any advice, or any good salary websites?

Thanks

I briefly looked and found this. I kind of cheated since I know what area you live in though.

Are you wanting to work in an accounting firm, or are you wanting to be an accountant for a specific industry?

I found that too, and that's what I'd be, except it doesn't make mention of a CPA certification. I will actually have the CPA certification which usually relates to Big Raise ™, now I just have to find out how much!

I'm currently working in a public accounting firm, and I plan to stay here indefinitely. I'd hope to eventually become partner here, and retire here. I know I love it, I know they love me, and I'm hoping they'll give me a salary I deserve, but everyone has trouble spending money so I want to be prepared to make a counter-offer. It'd never get to the I'm-going-to-threaten-to-quit point, because I love it too much and it's not worth that much.

How much more money are you looking to make?

Figure out the figure you want, rather than the figure you are "supposed" to get.

By the way, if anyone does find a good website, let me know as well.

Back when I was activly job hunting, I remember a website where you typed in your keywords, and it searched a massive database of want ads, and gave you the sallary based on those. (rather than based on past surveys) It was really good. It even had different results for different spellings, and let you compare various keywords against eachother.

I found a job for you Dag, something "happened" to the guy that had the job before you.

Hmm... I don't think that really applies to this case. Normally, if I feel like I'm worth, say, a 5% raise, then I'd expect one. However, since I will have recently become licensed as a CPA, it's a different matter. I'll be worth more than I can just simply 'feel', so I'm hoping to try to find out: "What do public accountants with 2 years of experience and a CPA license typically make?" I have a feeling, even right now, I'm earning less than I'm worth, but I have trouble quantifying feelings. confused.gif

How much did the education/licensing cost? How much time did you spend working on it? That should be an indication.

I know my friend who works at pacific life and they have a set pay table. try the CPA website, they may have a pay table as well.

The firm paid for all of the licensing/review classes/exam fees. I spent a good six months working on it, roughly 10-15 hours per week outside of work. It's a grueling process.

I'll definitely check the website. Initial checks don't show anything, but I'll keep looking. Thanks for the idea.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'd estimate that to a $10,000 raise in California smile.gif

If that was me, you'd better believe I'd be lying flat on my belly, holding that up.

Its China, they have laws against lying flat on your belly.
