Ethereal Bonding

Okay, so I've been thinking over the past couple weeks about how you have Demon Lords/Supernals and how Nihilists and Celestines can bond with the cosmic lord of their choice. Now, I know that's useful for combat, but it's also great for their RP. I was thinking that the communes could have something similar, except it would have no bearing on combat, skills, or anything at all. It would be completely for RP flavour of the communes and give us something to do with our ethereal Avatars (and possibly Aspects) besides raise them when they fall and go to them in times of crisis.

What I've gotten with the help of others so far for this idea is that you would choose the Avatar of your liking and perform a series of 3 quests over 3 IG months to form a bond with them. The quests would involve three specific areas, them being Faethorn, the Ethereal reflection of the commune, and the Moon/Night Bubble. Reasoning for the quests to take 3 IG months being that you're dedicating yourself to one specific Avatar and such, it shouldn't be really easy to just do one quest and form a bond. What you'd get out of this is different acknowledgment from the chosen Avatar, perhaps some special emotes, and a change in your physical description such as "She bears the mark of a silver mirror upon her."

A basic outline of how it'd go is:
Person A greets Avatar
Person A states intention to bond with Avatar
Avatar makes ominous speech of how bonding shouldn't be taken lightly and asks if you're sure.
Person A agrees/says yes.
Avatar gives first quest. (would be easiest of the quests)
Person A finishes first quest and is told to wait until next month for his next quest.
Next month, Avatar gives second quest. (would be slightly harder)
Person A finishes second quest and is told to wait again.
Next month, Avatars gives final quest. (hardest of the quests)
Person A finishes final quest.
Small ceremony to complete the bonding.

The bond would fade if the person was to leave the commune associated with the Avatar they bonded with. If the Avatar was slain the bond would go into remission and a mini-quest would need to be done to reactivate it afterwards. The mark would symbolize whichever Avatar that was bonded. This is about as far as I've gotten with help, so more ideas would be appreciated, even ideas for the quests.

I like! I'd so go bond with Luna and be trans-Conclave. tongue.gif

The idea sounds like it would be great for RP. wub.gif

I really like this idea. I'd love to be bonded to... any one of the three Night avatars, they are all so cool. This would be great for RP. Is this wiccan only?
Sarrasri2008-02-17 01:19:43
It could be Wiccan only, though I know of a non-Wiccan or two that liked the idea. That's why I also mentioned the possibility of Aspects too.

Yay, I bonded to False Memory!

Now where the hell did I leave my keys?

You have always had your keys with you. You have never forgotten them. In fact, your keys are always in the ideal location, and you always know where they are at any given moment. They also start a Ferrari. No matter how many people point out that it's a Pinto, it's a Ferrari. You must learn to see your car through the eye of Crow.

I really like this idea! Gives a bit more depth to characters as well, some nice Rp rituals and what not. Would love to see things like bone-casting added to this, that's got so much potential for Rp, wiccans being "spiritual" leaders of the commune

One of the possibilities that Sarra and I chewed over was having it be for Totems users who had spec'd. This way, Crow and Hart totemers could bond with the Aspects, though there, the quest aesthetics would have to be a bit different. The Crow Aspects don't rightly speak, etc.

Visions can be tailored to be close enough to "Speaking" as to not be too much of a difference.

Correct. Again, though, that's just the aesthetics.

I've the personal bias that it should be for any spec'd totemer. The other Great Spirit's Aspects shouldn't be neglected, and while the wiccans are the 'spiritual leaders' of the commune, it is a) for just one spirit, and cool.gif the warriors and druids can also carry the totems/spirit specs. Why should they be left out?

As to Ryleth: Reading/throwing bones would be sweet too, but that's not yet being fussed over as much. Bonding ideas first.

A few 'yes pleases' and 'this would be cool' but that won't help this much. We need input!

Brainstorm a bit, post some ideas!

The idea's already perfect, you know. Or at least, it's perfect for me. content.gif

It would be fun, although maybe athame or sickle could be modified depending on who your bonded with, like with Glumki an athame dripping in blood or ruby or something. Although without benefits I don't see why anyone would not choose Lhiannan for Night Avatars, rest are meh to me anyway.

Lhiannan is my least favorite. She's like a fae-version of Rowena, only Rowena does it better. <3 Rowena. My personal fave is Gwyllgi, and I like Glumki because I think he's funny and jovial in a morbid way. But..

I’m going to start off with Lhiannan because personally, like I said, she's my LEAST favorite. My favorite again, is Gwyllgi, and I want to save him for last.

Astraea greets Lhiannan and must see “What is your desire, shadowdancer?" to start the bonding.

AT this reply, Astraea says: “I seek a union between we two.” Or something particularly artsy fartsy. Really, only union is needed, you could say whatever.

After Astraea says this, Lhiannan will go: “Mmh, You think to be bound to the slaugh? Well you will not be given our blessing so easily; baubles three are required for the Shee-Slaugh’s dark decree. Falcon’s swift bird, hidden in the canopy, and a particle of power dark and shadowy. And last of all, bequeath upon me, raven’s seed of destiny.

WHAT SHE NEEDS:

The Falconer’s Sparrow
Shadowy essence
Ravenwood nut

You bring them, and the end result:

Lhiannan shatters the nut of ravenwood, bringing the pieces up to the mouth of the chirping sparrow. The sparrow consumes eagerly the dark fragments, and in a deft swipe, the Queen of the Shee-Slaugh weaves the essence of deepest shadows about the sparrow, encapsulating it in darkness.

The dusky coccoon dances jerkily through the air, fluttering with the wild abandon of the ensnared sparrow. Tendrils of shadow leak forth from the shadowy bubble, Lashing themselves against Lhiannan and the surrounding area, blotting from sight her silver crown.

With an explosion of shadow the cocoon tears itself apart, and a single ebon egg speckled with silver splotches falls towards the ground, in danger of smashing against the merciless foliage.

Before you can move, the egg slams against the ground, cracking in two. As the egg breaks down the middle, a flash of movement accompanies a heart wrenching melody. From within the confines of the egg has bloomed a wyrden nightingale. It perches upon Lhiannan’s shoulder and croons an enchanting song.

Without warning, the nightingale launches itself from Lhiannan’s shoulder and with incomprehensible speed, dives towards you. Just before impact, the nightingale explodes into a storm of purple feathers that cascade down upon you, their delicate quills absorbing into your very skin.

AFTER THIS LHIANNAN SAYS:

“You have my attention, night witch. Return next month, and we shall see if you deserve it.”

Is this the right direction? Or am I completely off.

P.S.: I've always wanted nightingales to be in Glom, I mean hell, NIGHTingales. Praise the night you avian fools.

That's awesome and totally in the right direction. Good job. wink.gif

And not everything hard coded needs to be just for combat.

We can RP just fine on our own. This is simply an idea for something else RP wise that would involve quests, deeper RP with character development/commune/Spirits, and something to show from that bond.

And I've forgotten why I'm responding.

so your saying if the nihilists didnt have the bond skill you wouldnt see people saying they are closer to the lord of plague or what not etc? its just a waste of time to code it for specific rp when all you have to do is go there and you know Roleplay like you are bonding with the avatar or whatever. hell you can even make it worth wile with a bards help?
