Anyone else watch it? What'd you think of the guys tonight?

My favorite three guys were David Cook (he was the third up, singing Happy Together), Michael Johns (number twelve, the Australian dude who sang Light My Fire) and Jason Castro (number eleven, he was the only one with an instrument). I can't decide which one I like the most though between David Cook and Michael Johns.

My least favorite three were Jason Yeager, Luke Menard and Garrett Haley. I'm hoping two of them will be voted off Thusday. In particular though Garrett Haley was bad. I hate to say it, but he sounded like a girl. laugh.gif

David Cook was the only person I thought successfully modernized his song, even though I don't think he was necessarily the best singer. The last half of his performance was my favorite.

Michael Johns was good, but I thought he kind of played it safe. I mean, the song is "Light My Fire." I guess I expected a reincarnation of Jim Morrison.

See? THIS is just another example of how awesome you are!

I thought he did well with the song, though it didn't surprise me. I mean, Michael Johns did sing Light My Fire in the Hollywood auditions, so he coulda picked a new song. But it was a good choice for him. I think he was a little nervous as far as 'performing' but then, honestly I think they all were a bit. The only ones who didn't seem nervous at all were David Cook and the Jailhouse Rock guy.

Yeah. Although the guy with the guitar seemed pretty mellow, too.

I didn't like the Jailhouse Rock performance. It was like the guy was always trying to catch up. It was disappointing, because that's a song you'd expect someone to really get into vocally, but it was like it was all he could do just to get the words out.

Well, it wasn't a perfect performance, but he can really sing. Mostly, I enjoyed it cause he didn't just stand there like most of the guys did. laugh.gif And yeah... prolly why I liked his so much. Though I kinda agreed with Simon that he could have done that song without the rest of the band and it would have sounded better. But then maybe he was nervous of dismissing the band like that one kid did. laugh.gif I know I would be!

Apparently half the girls had the flu. A couple of them were definetly coughing after singing. So, I'll forgive some of them for being a little less than perfect. laugh.gif

That said, my favorite three girls were Amanda Overmyer, Ramiele Malubay and Syesha Mercado. I just like Amanda's style and the way she sounds. I thought her song choice was fun too. Ramiele is just so tiny and adorable, I wanna put her in my pocket and keep her! laugh.gif Plus, she's got that big ol voice! And Syesha was just great.

The three I thought were the worst were Kristy Lee Cook, Amy Davis, and Carly Smithson. The first two, Kristy and Amy were just boring. Listening to them felt like something I was waiting through, you know? I actually agreed with Simon about Carly. I thought she was just bad. Course, I hope the other two get voted off and she gets another chance cause she was one of the ones coughing on stage so I can kinda see that some of her suckage might just have been flu.

I pretty much agreed with Simon for all the girls, although I thought he was wrong on the last vocal, and I gave more credit to the "Spinning Wheel Ride" girl, just because she tried to make the song more contemporary. He was right about the vocals on that, though.

Both the guys and the girls seem to be afraid to really just take off with their songs. Most of them choose some really good songs that are designed to show off power and creativity in vocals, and just about everyone seems focused on singing them in the safest way possible, which makes them boring and unremarkable.

"Hey, wasn't that great? All my notes were in tune."

Yeah, and it sounded like you were singing in a nursing home.
Noola2008-02-22 20:58:45
Well, that's cause they're all scared. Later in the show, they'll prolly get more adventurous.

I was a little mad that Joanne got booted and Kristie Lee didn't last night though. But I 100% agreed with the guys who got booted. Did you catch what the theme for next week's gonna be?
Unknown2008-02-22 21:10:13
No, I was out last night. I didn't even know what the results were until you said just now.
Dysolis2008-02-22 22:14:29
yeah i'll watch American Idol, I can never remember the names of the singers though so I won't be able to provide good statements on how they did. I am glad Simon isn't as critical as he was though, He's starting to get along a little better than he was with Paula.

Half the fun is Simon being mean though. laugh.gif Course, it means when he says something nice about one of the contestants it means something cause he doesn't just throw out the compliments like Paula does.
Unknown2008-02-22 22:23:43
It always gets me when the contestants argue with the judges or blow them off.

"Yeah, I know you're all long-standing professionals in the field I want to break into, but I'm pretty sure that I, my mother, and our eight chickens are a better judge of my singing ability than you are."
Arix2008-02-22 22:35:21
Do people still watch that show?
Noola2008-02-27 04:09:02
Here's how I ranked the guys tonight:

Best
1. Without a doubt, David Archuleta. OMG. That kid can freakin sing!
2. David Cook
3. Chikezie
4. David Hernandez
5. Michael Johns
6. Danny Noriega
7. Jason Castro
8. Luke Menard
9. Robbie Carrico
10. Jason Yeager
Worst

I was disappointed with Michael Johns. I really like him usually, but he was very average sounding tonight.
Stangmar2008-02-27 15:37:57
I only watch the auditions in the beginning of each season, because it's fun to laugh at the people who TRULY suck.
Adee2008-02-27 21:54:22
I would definitely not left David Noriega so high. I swear to god, if he does that ghetto neck wobble one more time, his giant parade float head is going to just snap and fall off!

Archuletta has been my favorite since day one. He just keeps getting better and better. His interpretation of 'Imagine' was genious. He was the ONLY one who took the song and made it differnet, made it his own. He was great. He's definitely winner material. The girls..meh. They all look the same and I don't care enough about them yet to try and tell them apart. We'll see what happens tonight.

For great AI info and comedy blog, check out Linda Sharp. She's hilarious and keeps a running recap of every episode. It is uploaded just a few hours after the show is over. There's also a chat room for her readers during the show. We have a blast.
