Losing Interest

Back to Common Grounds.

I'm finding I'm starting to lose a little bit of interest in the game, and sitting down and playing it is getting hard.

I don't know if it's because I can't find a good bashing spot to save my life, that A: Gives decent exp, and B: Is actually populated 8 times out of 10 (I'm mid 60s if anyone as an idea BESIDES the Krokani Tower which, 19 times out of 20 is empty).

Any suggestions as to how to rectify this perhaps maybe?

You could, I don't know, talk to people in the game. Ask your guild/city for suggestions on where to hunt, or just go exploring on your own and see what you turn up. There's a lot to do in Lusternia, and anyone who says they're bored either isn't trying or really should be doing something other than playing a MUD. smile.gif

I've lost interest in bashing in general. I mean, the commitment 85+ is pretty insane. Been debating whether or not it would be worth it or not to just grind to titan. Probably not. sleep.gif

If you're getting bored with the stuff you normally do in game, try doing the stuff you don't normally do (whatever that may be.)

Barring that, find another game? Maybe taking a little break will renew your interest.

losing interest? Reinvest in a higher yield fund!

Yeah, you could always try a myriad of other activities besides bashing.
Jack2008-02-22 01:41:27
Play WoW!

Or uh I mean I guess you could try other activities, or try bashing at off-peak hours. I find that early on GMT the good spots are rarely bashed out.

*groan* I actually chuckled a bit though.

And I know what you mean by losing interest. I've become increasingly apathetic to online (PC) gaming lately, and I don't know why. Might be time for a break, play some console games.

Completely understandable. After you've discovered/done all there is to do and hit that glass ceiling in bashing, all that's really left is interacting with other players and they can be caught up in bashing/repetitive things. Being silly all the time eventually loses its kicks as well.

The trouble is, simply switching between IR games doesn't quite bring back the excitement. IR games are incredibly similar in terms of how you grow and what you will eventually discover, the feel of playing it is the same. It isn't easy to move on to another MUD entirely either; when comes to custom coding, you can't quite top IR and the standard codes all blend together when you get down to it.

The answer therefore is RP. RP enriches the relationships you forge with other players, and offers your character endless room for development. Something so much as an average conversation about hunting deer can be made engaging if a character is sharpening a knife, feeling its weight in his hand, or the other one offering to study it and appraise it etc. "Mundane" Rp moments like this add together and mature the game beyond one of ooc stats and levels, instead creating a world which in my opinion, is why you escape to an MUD in the first place, to become and live something you can't in real life. People who just want to flex their digital level, ability to hunt trolls and majestic chiseled looks can do it anywhere, WoW...Witchers....Call of Duty...Sims....

No one ever told me about a glass ceiling in bashing. sad.gif

I know it may sound weird but making an alt in another place where the RP seems interesting and just have at it. I know when I first got bored with my first character I left for a while, came back, made an alt and did a lot of RP with it, and some guildhopping. (which interesting really) When that character seemed to run out of options to do i went back to my original character and had a lot more fun with it knowing on an OOC standpoint how things were in other places made it a lot easier for me to get into and develop more of my roleplay with the original characters, and who to search out if I wanted some interesting encounters.

Best thing to do with bashing at that level is to find about 4 or 5 places you think you can do and pick an order. Just continue cycling that until you come upon when something is respawning or is already there. If you are lucky you'll figure out how fast you can kill everything and develop a sense of time it takes for things to respawn if you are there long enough, so you know when to go back and repeat. That's how I've always bashed prime and I've gotten to level 89 on mostly prime bashing. You have to have a little bit of time to do this though, I've always found it a little relaxing.

Everyone else here has very valid ideas and suggestions, you could try following those.

Or you could do what I did and sneak away quietly with barely a goodbye to your friends, come back after a year, and start playing again out of the blue.

The game will seem all shiny and new again and you'll be extremely surprised at how little has changed, and how quickly you'll re-settle into the social pecking order.

It's what athletes refer to as "the wall".
Marcalo2008-02-22 12:05:05
I have found thus far in any IRE mud I play that you get to a certain point and its all boring. Ya you can chat with people go explore, but eventually its all boring, what I suggest is find a good book go read it, take some time away from the muds, come back refered and ready to do your thing. If you can't do that, become bitter and cynical and hate everyone.

On an entirely unrelated note: Tekora, your Christopher Walken avatar is full of win.
Varent2008-02-22 13:56:03
I agree with Tekora and Marcalo, take a break, ive taken many while ive played lusternia. It all seems much more interesting when you come back after a break, and if you dont, well then youve probably found something to take its place. Im on a break right now, getting out of the habit of reading the forums is tough though...
