What kind of stats do you expect from chainmail? Greatrobes tend to be 52 or so per stat on average I think so wondering what chainmail is like. It is sad that robes would be better protection AND proofable.. would really remove the purpose of having chainmail. So curious if anyone has some stat sets on chainmail. Or some knowledge on em.
Thank you in advance!
(Not sure people generally forge em though.. if thats true then post no one ever asks for em! Would like to see armour variety actually have use!)

There's one public set that can be repeatedly forged:
Item: Coif Type: Chain Org: Public
Commodities: steel 10 silver 2 platinum 2 gold 1
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: COIF
Appearance:
a silvered steel celestial coif
Dropped:
A chain coif of steel and silver is crumpled here.
Examined:
This coif has been crafted from strong steel links that have been meshed
together in such a way that they offer the most protection but do not
pinch skin or hair. The folds of this coif will lay over the back of the
neck and the shoulders of the wearer. Every other steel link has been
covered completely in the purest silver, giving the coif a glittering
appearance when any light strikes it. Encircling the brow of this chain
coif, an inch of links are coated with platinum, as if it were a
circlet. The centre of the forehead portion sports a flat 5-pointed star
made from gold and securely attached to the links so that it is not a
point of weakness for this chain helmet.
This isn't much data, but here's a rough idea of what I got after forging each for a few minutes each.

In other words, non robe armors need wub! They need improvement, making the proofable, or increase their armor value. I mean, we have chain mail in the game, the potential is there for neat variety, but it just doesn't get used because there's no reason to depart from robes, especially with proofing.
Now, forging runes could be put on the chainmail, which would spruce it up a wee bit, but that's not really practical given the people who would be wearing it would have to track down a forger, and probably hand them nine pieces of coal (or six, if you only use the blunt/cutting increasing runes) to rune up the whole set.
Malarious, I saw a suggestion you made somewhere else regarding putting new artifact runes on chain mail and the like to boost their armor value and possibly make them more appealing. You excluded fullplate from that, but in doing so, you would basically create a situation where it would be better to have field plate, with an arti rune, and a trans skill somewhere else. fullplate is a trans skill limited to one archetype. It should be good. Heck, I think it should be better than what it is, given it's limitation, and how it's probably easier to balance given those limitations. But, then again, I sunk a lot of lessons into forging to get it, so I'm not going to pretend I can totally be without bias.
I definitely agree though, I love variety and different looks, and there's far too many robes. I bet people could come up with some really great themes for sets of chain! Look how much more description space there is to work with between three items.
Really I would like to see masterwork chain and leather. Either make it proofable and let its physical protetions be on par with robes, so that the choice is more for style, or give it much more substantial physical attributes so players can make a choice between the two.

Examined:
Each steel link in this shirt has been expertly crafted to be as strong
as possible. Every other link has been coated in silver to make it gleam
brighter in any light than the steel. On the left breast of this chain
shirt is an emblem of gold that has been crafted in great detail into an
archangel. It is depicted with wings spread and sword raised for battle.
The feathers on the wings are very detailed and the sword looks to have
flame markings running up its length. It is attached to the links of the
shirt on the left breast in such a way that it will not form a weak
point in the armor or a place where a weapon could catch. The sleeves of
this shirt only extend down to the elbow of the wearer so that
flexibility is not impaired. Along the outside of the sleeves is a line
about an inch wide that is coated in platinum to give the shirt an
unique look. The line extends from the shoulder to where the sleeve ends
just above the elbow. The hem of this shirt falls several inches below
the waist of the wearer for added protection.

It would be nice to at least see some variety.
I liked the idea of acrobat users not being able to dodge while in robes making leather armour worthwhile and am still not sure why that isn't the case.
I doubt making robes less effective would be the way to go with chainmail here, but maybe we could think up some benefits to give them. Maybe some sort of blessings that the smith can give them a la Imperian forging, depending on which supernal/demon lord they take them to and such. Perhaps requiring that the person who would be wearing them go along with the smith blessing them to explain why it only seems to work for the casters using chainmail and not all armour.

I hate to say it, but I made an exception on purpose.
If scalemail + armor runes were equal to or greater than fullplate then fullplate would kind of lose its purpose wouldnt it? Any forger can make a knight scalemail, any knight could then rune it for instant trans skill.
Remember armour effects damage but it also effects wounds.. do you really want to see fullplate stats of 130/130? At that point they are taking such low wounds and damage you havent a prayer anyway, there is a point where you will not be able to wound them at all (they wont need sip your damage and so can always apply your wounds off).
The runes were meant to give a boost to chainmail as a 'fix' if you were up to paying. Though really I would rather just see chainmail be robes +10 in stats since you cant proof them. I didnt want to replace fullplate hence why I noted maybe not for scalemail either.
And I agree we need some armour variety
Maybe allow armour to be blessed by Earth Lord/Demon Lord for some minor effect.. or let an enchanter give a enchant to it, like an opiton of...
-Mana regen (like perfection)
-Ego regen (like beauty)
-Health regen (like a less scaling mercy)
-+5 to either cuting or blunt
-Place an enchantment of a normal type on it (make armour enchantable and rechargable so you could use it as a perma item)
-
Normal armour could have -1- of these maybe?
Nothing should be exceptionally major but I should hav ea reason to get a forger to make me a nice set of runable chainmail instead of just getting splendours or something (as a note its like 340 credits for me to switch to tailoring then back or so) :/
Unknown2008-03-20 06:31:05
Allow people to wear chainmail and unenchanted robes at the same time. It would be chainmail + 12/12 stats and proofings.
Rika2008-03-20 06:41:10
Let's not give people even more protection against warriors.

I actually think that would be kinda nice..
Tailors continue to get paid for robes and to proof.
Yet forgers can still make the armor.
The overall general armor levels would rise... lets see that would mean total stats of 100 and something. 49/47 would become 61/59 which is semi high but still nowhere near uber high (49/47 is already a high end chainmail.
Unknown2008-03-20 12:07:57
If we ever do see armor runes (very doubtful that we well, in my opinion), I hope we see a variety of effects and maybe leave out the stat-boosting ones completely. Let's not forget about dwarven runes, which can be etched onto anyone's armor by a smith.
And, stop thinking like such a city dweller! Earth/demon lords and enchanters. Pah!

I think greatrobes should be worse than chain, but chainmail should get a small boost in stats (to about 57/57 average) since greatrobes can have elemental resists and chain cannot. Robes should be 49/49 on average.
Malarious2008-03-21 08:47:14
I really think chainmail should have higher stats than greatrobes because of proofings benefit if that is what you meant.
Show <3 to the chainmail. Even +5 to +10 over robes would be a nice boost to compensate no 10 dmp to stuff

Nerra2008-03-28 00:32:17
I say put chain on part with/near splendour. It'd be unproofable so Splendour would still be better.
Unknown2008-04-06 17:07:34
But splendor robes can be as good as Field Plate, so if thats the case, why bother with my nice shiney knight armor when I can just get some chainmail for 10% the cost?
