I was kinda thinking, When the gods shattered, they probably didn't just shatter into the race that moved on. Some energy/consciousness was probably left behind. As the gods shattered, their consciousnesses added up and became "background radiation" of the world.

When a child is born, they may or may not be affected by this force, but to harness it, they need it in a condensed form, hence, the cameo.

I always thought of it like this...

At the start of everything was Yudhe and all the gods that came after are just flavours of the original energy of Yudhe. The normal races are shards of the elder gods and hence inherited their flavour of energy.

Anyone can be a changeling because all that is required is a flavour change of their shard, hence anyone can buy a cameo and become a "changeling".

When I become an Igasho by using the cameo I see myself as a true Igasho. However, as this change is manifested by a magical artifact and not through direct descent from an Elder god the flavour may not be exactly the same, but from the mortal perspective its close enough. Hence when mortals see a changling in another form it looks identical to any other from that race, whereas the gods can "taste" the subtle difference. After the first use of the cameo, you are no longer a shard in exactly its original flavour, even if you return to your original race, and hence you "become" a changeling after this point.

I would agree, if it hasn't been said over and over that Cameo's don't make the changeling.

They mark them, just that. A changeling is born a changeling, at least from what i've seen.

Since birth I always knew I was really a tall and hairy Igasho, trapped in a weedy elfen body...

As for being born changeling, I suppose I could consider certain shards to be more susceptible to change than others, perhaps born with a shards whos flavour is already in flux, and the cameo just acts as a focus point for this flux energy to enable a complete transition to another flavour. I don't really see Changelings as being their own distinct race.

So there are changeling out there without the cameo? And even if they can't change race because they don't have the cameo yet, if they feel that they are, then they are just waiting until they can get a cameo to be able to embrace their true form?

I think it would be cool to be able to choose Changeling as a race, with a random change in race every so often reflecting the uncontrolled power within them and only when you get a cameo are you able to focus that power and choose what you want

Edit: So then you would have..

1. Changelings who dont know they are until getting a cameo and discovering their true nature.
2. Changelings who are marked as a particular race at birth but who know they are changelings and who haven't been able to get a cameo in order to focus their changeling energies (and in my model, change their shard flavour)
3. Changelings whos innate power is high enough that it manifests as random changes at certain times. (a changeling race from birth)
4. Changelings who have a cameo and are able to embrace their true race and control the energies in order to be able to choose a shard flavour they want.

That would be really cool

My character is a changeling because he was born of one (Ialie), but since you have to have the cameo, I got mine customized to look like something else; because it's my assertion that the cameo isn't what lets me do it, so I "just happen" to have an entirely different sort of cameo because I like wearing one. If the coders had made a way I could be a changeling without a cameo (like a rune you attach to yourself) I'd've gone that route.

But Ialie wasn't born a changeling. She was born faeling and then came into possession of a cameo later (it's in her history).

I guess we just need to assume there's both kinds, and when you see someone who was born changeling but has a cameo, make an effort to look the other way.

I thinkNejii asked the admin to make it so his mirror of genderchanging is more of a natural power for him rather than a power from an item.

It wasn't "asking the admin" so much as "customising the artifacts to be something else entirely", but yes I did that with my cameo and mirror.

Hum there is an argumentative part of me that would explain Ialies history as her not accepting that she is a changeling so when her cameo was found to her it was an unwanted curse.

A long time ago, an Imperial Merian named Geb went to Bob's artifact shop, and among the items, he found a curious item that would allow him to change his race once every month. Geb, being the Avatar of Credits, purchased said item, thus becoming the first Changeling. From then on, others have followed in his footsteps, purchasing Cameos to gain the same power. Some choose to hide that power, while others choose to proudly display the power in some bid to make it seem like they are a distinct race. Geb knows the truth though, considering he was the First. Geb knows that to become a changeling, all one must do is acquire 1000 credits by various means, and purchase a cameo from Bob.

We are no separate race; we are just people who have had the good fortune of having 1000 credits to burn on an artifact.
