Subj: Paths and Speedwalking

Speedwalking is here!

You can now attempt to find the shortest path to any given location in
Lusternia (if you know it's room number). Here's how:
PATH FIND
PATH START
PATH STOP (or just STOP)
PATH QUEUE (to see your current path)

Many of the known landmarks are also easier to find, particularly to
help our newer players navigate the Basin of Life. Here's how this
works:
PATH LANDMARKS
PATH TO

There is a limit to the distance of a path - if the location is too far
then you will not be able to walk there.

Enjoy!

Awesome!

EDIT: I think everyone autowalking is lagging us all to censor.gif though.
Xenthos2008-04-08 02:13:20
Pleeeeeease stop autowalking, people! You're making deadly lag!
Morgfyre2008-04-08 02:49:06
Nah, the lag was due to some unforeseen weird errors, which are fixed now.
Shiri2008-04-08 02:54:37
Whew.

(I seem to be generating weird errors of my own though...why isn't it broken for anyone except me!? sad.gif)
Doman2008-04-08 03:01:35
Is there a way to get a room's number?

It isn't working for you? That sounds like a bug. And you know what happens to bug abusers, Shiri... zap.gif
Shiri2008-04-08 03:02:56
die.gif I did bug it, I just find it surprising that it's working for everyone except me. I'm 99% sure it isn't user error, too.

EDIT: @Doman: MAP, check the v-number at the top. It might be nice for the admin to edit the post with that detail though, it isn't particularly clear.

EDIT: Fixed, thanks Morgfyre! Also, Xen, I ninja'd you by like 2 minutes there, stop being contrary.

Type MAP.
Doman2008-04-08 03:42:59
I would like to take a moment to say...I love you, Gods, every one of you, Even Nocht, who I haven't even met yet
Unknown2008-04-08 04:15:50
Eek. I'm still using MudBot, though, even if they're now basically identical.

EDIT: What's better, you think? MudBot, or the built-in MAPs?
Furien2008-04-08 04:42:33
Mudbot, since it spams movement, will move you faster and take advantage of movement bonuses like Adroitness or Stagform. It can also stop you from walking through enemy territory, along with letting you search for a room's number without having to be there to find it. The built-in map won't do any of those for you, as far as I know.
Unknown2008-04-08 05:11:15
Lag still seems to affect MudBot. Or is it just me? huh.gif
Morgfyre2008-04-08 05:11:23
There are some advantages to each.

The in-game map/speedwalking system is:
  • More complete (you don't need to update it)
  • More accurate (it makes paths from the game data directly, so any changes in the game will be corrected for automatically)
The mudbot map/speedwalking system:
  • Potentially includes hidden/secret areas (if you have them mapped)
  • Has room searching functions (if it is mapped)
  • Faster (it was a design choice to make our speedwalking slower, which may or may not change)
  • Has a larger range for pathfinding (Lusternia limits the max range of pathfinding to prevent lag)
I would say the in-game map is better than the mudbot map (which I also found a pain in the ass to update), but the speedwalking with mudbot is better with the stipulation that you have a complete and up-to-date map.

Umm, the new area in the world library is listed as "not mapped yet"

I don't think the built in map is updating properly if it is supposed to automatically update.

I wouldn't be boasting about that if I were you...you guys are getting deleted if you go back to being too elitist!

That's because it isn't automatically updated. wink.gif

This would be imply some sort of automatic update process....

Speedwalking in Lusternia has nothing to do with our in-game maps, aside from the fact that the map is needed to get a room number. The maps are updated manually by our builders and some special mappers (Rika was one of the helpful people who did a lot of the mapping for Lusternia, along with Sarrasri and Caffrey - you guys rock!), but the advantage there is no updating or maintenance is needed by the user.

You rock too!

Igneous, or maybe metamorphic. biggrin.gif

I like the speedwalking smile.gif Although it gets disrupted by waves.

That is all I can say about this. Seriously. I love you guys. Especially Morgy, for making this lump of sheer awesome.
