In envoy format for the heck of it
Skillset: Varied
Skill: Varied
Problem: Demigods currently imbalance combat and are a major effect on combat.
Solution: Idea below
Idea is simple, at titan and demigod instead of getting modifications to your current race you change to the race of titan or demigod! Which is basically a race with 12 in all stats to start with 6 or 8 immediate points to put into stats with a limit of 2 max into con. At titan you get X points and at demigod you get another boost, with certain things costing certain points. This wont touch on point values right away, I will take input on those as it is a delicate balance.
What can be bought:
TITANS:
*Increased stats (more costly per stat as you go, max 2)
*Increased criticals
*Regeneration (higher costs as you get higher levels of it, max 2)
*Resistance to a damage type (pay per level of resistance, select type when bought, max lvl 2 and 3 different types)
*Expand/Grow (one power)
*Natural wings
*Natural burrow
*Refresh power additional time (can be bought multiple times)
*Faster equilibrium (max 2)
*Faster balance (max 2)
*Faster herb balance lvl (max 1)
*Improved recover from elixers (max 1)
*Increased accuracy with a certain weapon
DEMIGOD:
*Max becomes 3 for equilibrium, balance, herb balance, resistance to damage types, and stats.
*Zap (improve on current damage)
*Improved zap (usable more frequently and upped damage)
*Refresh self an additional time (can be bought multiple times)
*Max sipping bonus becomes lvl 2
Feel free to suggest more things to add. Idea being you can make yourself the ultimate tank but then you wont be all powerfully quick. You want speed then you wont have the greatest tanking. Most things should be increasingly expensive as you go (lvl 1 might be 3, lvl 2 might cost an additional 6, and lvl might be an additional 12 totalling 21 for lvl 3 as an example).
Can take a weakness to get half the value back.
Hopefully this could improve things, go head, go nuts with ideas. I will update this when I get back from Penguicon.

I don't really have any opinion on most of these ideas. I'm not even sure they're that necessary but one thing I absolutely hate is stripping titans/demigods of their natural race.

I "guess" this spawned from a discussion on the degree to which demi/titan turns "trade-off" races into "super duper races with no downside."
Malicia2008-04-18 04:45:30
But I like merian! They have a rich story to them. Not everyone chooses a race to 'game' the system, for a combat edge.
Shiri2008-04-18 04:49:50
Any such idea (not that Malarious' is a good one) would have to involve a demigod form that they can shift in and out of, like Achaea's dragonform, so they can keep their old race if they want.
Doman2008-04-18 04:53:03
I actually really like the idea of shifting in and out.

I bet you do, you filthy git.
Ildaudid2008-04-18 04:57:23
This idea doesn't make much sense to me.
First, it makes a cameo useless at 99/100, what is the point of that artifact after 98 then?
Then say you are a Taurian....
you reach level 99...
all your stats drop to 12 and you can only put 2 pts into con? so the max any titan/demigod can have is 14 con? even though the race they may have been before gaining titan/demigod could have had 16 con?
-confused-
and now, off to sleep.

So the solution to Titans/Demigods unbalancing combat is to make them better in combat?
Oh Malarious, what won't you envoy?

Like Ildaudid said, the 2 con thing doesn't make any sense.
Why would any metagamer bother going 99/100 if they end up ruining their stats?
You say the stat bonuses would be weighted, but you can't go past +2?
+2 Is NOT hard to get weighted. Would our stats just be 14/14/14/14? No thanks.
I don't quite understand, considering humans start with all 12, and get far more than just 14.
If this is going to happen, not only do you have to think of the 'balance' aspect, but if people will actually even like it in the first place or if it makes any sense. I understand where you're coming from with this idea, you're just going about it the wrong way. Also, not everyone chooses their race for the sake of PvP/grinding. You can dull all the stats and give demigods all these fancy passive advantages, but it still doesn't make sense. Why does the demigod/titan(hello?) have lower stats than mortal, run-of-the-mill races?

On the contrary, this wouldn't make the overwhelmingly good races better than they would have been naturally (fast races becoming more tanky or doing more damage), but it would even out what the other races can do instead of increasing stats which become all but useless to them.

Well, he said +2 con max. You could still get more than that for all the othe ones.

He said it's a race of its own with 12 base in every stat.
I'm working around this to provide a slightly different proposal.

That is still ridiculous.
There are other races with more than 14 CON.
You can't single out one stat like that, it makes everything wonky and awkward.

Simple question, since this is envoy format:
Why is this a necessary change? Seems this will do little more than cause more problems instead of fixing them. Keeping in mind that demigod is something that -everyone- can achieve.

Malarious has this tick to try to nerf Demigods every month or so.

Or, not-going-to-happenward, or not-ever-going-to-happenky. Basically, because none of this is going to happen.

I think that balancing what can be gained by a demigod(ess) will do some good. I think less stats and buffs overall will be a good thing for balance, while at the same time giving a benefit that everyone will certainly enjoy having.
Consider that for me a +1 int will be much much more beneficial in terms of what you actually get when stacked up next to a +1 strength, but my class dictates that I would take the much less powerful strength buff (300 mana or 11 wounds?). Having to make such decisions, I can only see as a good thing really... lessening the overall effect of demigod, but giving you some room to wriggle around.

I agree with this. I like races to be unique, and flavorful, and more than just a hodgepodge of numbers people look at to beat up other people with.
I think it would be fun if different races got different abilities at demi, but that would probably cause more problems than it would create.
