Just in, a poll from the Glomdorian Gazette 'Thing I Would Most Likely Do If I Could Time Travel'
Coming up first, with 96.2% of the votes was:
Go back in time and stop Xavius from seducing Butter and killing Sojiro in the process.

Going back in time and not allowing you into the commune wasn't a choice or what?
My first impressions were Valek and Daevos pretty much just mowing down scores of celestians in the good ole days.

The roleplay I was introduced to as soon as I stepped out of the Portal was very interesting. Trying to grasp the concept of 'planes' and 'power' and understand how Lusternia worked. And also the water in Celest -- it was just a beautiful world to be introduced to! I also enjoyed the idea of Taint vs. Light instead of Good vs. Evil with conflicts on the 'Good' side.
Plus, I can't remember who it is now, some Mag jumped and killed me in Dairuchi while it was under Celest's influence, and forced me to pray. I was trying to do the marble quest with the little rockeaters. She was a scathing bitch, but then Lady Terentia's Order hunted her and Sipelus gave me her head and made her pray . The entire event instilled a very foreboding fear of Dairuchi in Aison. She would be extremely afraid of all Dracnari had it not been for Neerth (we miss you!).
There are a lot of other things that influenced me to stay, too. Like hearing about the ruins of Old Celest and traveling there despite being told not to, and then chased all over the place. There was a Nihilist who I scried once and he knew I scried him and I had no idea how he could tell. Then he was at the Necro and I asked him what that was, and in a really cold tone he told me I was really stupid and needed to read the histories. Which launched into a whole history lesson with Neerth, which was incredibly entertaining.
I just have a lot of good memories with Lusternia, when I started out .

I'd say it would be the histories.

Lets see...I'm fairly certain the reason I stuck with Lusternia was because of the people, most importantly, Elysiana and Hiriako. Lusternia was the first MUD I've ever played so I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I actually made hand-written notes of commands so I'd remember them because I never thought I would otherwise. I was sitting around reading helps like usual when Elysiana came and approached Sarra and talked to her, eventually ending with Elysiana mentoring Sarrasri. She then proceeded to introduce Sarra to various people (Nejii included, who was quite intimidating at the time), and even got her slightly tipsy on absinthe in the guildhall too. Was fun and she taught Sarra a lot before she went inactive.

I remember on my first day on Lusternia, fresh from Imperian, I had seen the bright red tainted terrain message when I stepped out of the Portal, and after being introduced into the Aquamancers and everything, I asked on CT "What exactly is the Taint.". I got about ten different answers, and someone sent me a tell with a link to the history section of the website. I checked out the page... and was hooked.

Fae in Faethorn who will convert honeycombs into honeycakes.
@Ashai: Yep, the other 3.8% came from Hyrtakos.

Hmm,
Well, I hadn't played a MUD in a while, but I managed to hurt my ankle biking, and was off my feet for a bit. I tried Achaea on a suggestion from a friend, and was almost immediately put off by the disregard for roleplay. I don't remember why I decided to check out the other IRE games, but I do remember that Lusternia had the best histories section by far.
What kept me was the roleplay, and that people I met seemed to love the game itself, not just their characters.

Back in the days of...well...donno how long ago. It was a while, maybe a year and a half? Anyway, back when I played my first character, I was a poor little demented Serenguard with a twin brother.
And my first teacher was someone that wasn't a total jerk. A nice change from Achaea.

My first parents were awesome too, can't believe I forgot them D:

The PK free-for-all of the first days of open beta. I miss that.

I've only started playing Lusternia recently and am already hooked. I came over after playing Achaea for 3 RL years and I honestly think I like the world and people here much better.
I'm also a sucker for games with indepth history and the fact that the history in Lusternia is player driven (and even player written!) is a huge selling point.

Hm.. I don't know what originally hooked me, probably histories.
But for when I returned and started playing Dylara, Shorlen and Charune. Shorlen for ditching little me in the Hartstone Guildhall underground and no idea on how to get out, then popping up later saying oops.
And Charune was just fun. I never did see my shoebox.

Welcome to Lusternia!
Make sure you read the Paladin histories. Catarin wrote them. They are superb.

My first impression of Lusternia wasn't good. My first character was an Aquamancer before the collegiums had been released, and nobody in the guild had been around when I first arrived. So, after about a half hour of being completely lost on what I later found out to be Avechna's peak and not knowing how to ask for help, I quit and never logged onto that one again. Then came a few months of Imperian and about a year and a half of nothing at all.
Eventually, I came back to re-read the histories, which I had found fascinating the first time around, and decided to try again as the current Geomancer. The result was much more satisfying.
