Seeking engaging RP

Howdy,

I'm not new, but returning. I was wondering if y'all wouldn't mind advertising that their orgs have the best and most active RP'ers in the game. Now, I know there is great RP in any org, so heres the catch, though: you have to back up your claim. Talk about, oh, so-and-so's spirit quest, or Bob's sermon. Not just "WE HAVE RP"!

Or, alternatively, if anyone is looking for someone to fill a specific role (naturally it would have to be at a young age). Basicly, I've got some ideas for a character, but it isn't exclusive to an org so I need to decide where to host it.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

I am currently in the Paladins, so look no further than them for engaging RP... though the rest of them are good for little more than flailing their swords at imps, I'm afraid.

You shouldn't have said that, Guido. They'll hunt down your alt and treat you all weird once they find you out

Try here for a beginning discussion. And now, for my RP advert:

Of all of the guilds in the Serenwilde, the Serenguard has the potential for some of the strongest RP. Potential is important, because no RP is just handed to you on a platter. The tribe feeling is hammered in from the beginning-- you will not find the word "guild" written down in any written material I've gotten my hand on. As you train in the collegium, one of the quests will bring you in contact with a spirit Wolverine, Eagle, and Jaguar. Inquire further and you'll find that they are the Warrior Spirits, sacred to the Serenguard. There is an entire sub-sect of Serenguard that devote their lives to the ways of these Spirits, and you are welcome to join them.

Much of the Serenguard ways are connected to their founders, the Centaur. One of our rites was given to us directly by the Centaur, and if you ask someone like Everiine about tribe history, you'll hear the fascinating tale recounted. The tribe itself is very, very close. Anger one and you anger us all, and we will defend our own against wrong doing, even when we know the person is somewhat at fault. We hold each other equally, putting Moon users, Stag users, and Trackers on equal level. We also hold that we are neither higher nor lower than the rest of the Seren guilds, serving them equally. We do not have a list of rules and laws to follow. Instead, we have a warriors ethic, a code of honour, that inspires our actions.

If you're looking for a close knit group, but a larger one, with a strong sense of spirituality, the Serenguard is for you.

The Shadowdancers have some good RP, right now there seems to be some sort of power struggle which is sorta interesting for those involved I guess. We do like rituals and have some guild events that are held. We value a more softspoken tone, and it's easy to get involved. Night has a lot of RP behind her in the way she can be interpreted and it causes a discussion or two on how things really work and it causes frustration and some people to get mad at each other sometimes because of their differences. We try and put them aside though because we have a very relied upon circle which we are all somewhat of a family, we look to each other for advice, and work through things together. Sort of like a family. We have our motherly and fatherly people, our grandmotherly people, or sisterlike people, our brotherly type people, and then all of the childrenish people who grow up to be one of the types above. As such we have our spats and they are pretty interesting sometimes.

We always have greater RP with the fae, how you wish to deal with them is very controversial, some treat them as slaves, some treat them as their best friends. The avatars make this interesting and the influencing fae from ethereal makes it more interesting because of the will of the fae they have to be influenced to Glomdoring, some want to go to Seren, some want to go to Glomdoring, some want to go to Faethorn. This begs the question as a guild devoted to te fae, protecting them, and using them, "should we respect their wishes when influencing them?"

Another trait is we have a large deal to do with appearances, we want to appear beautiful and have others look up to us, so a lot of us appear to be snobbish to everyone outside the shadowdancers, sometimes inside depending on the personality. We always try and act decent to everyone so that they may serve us in some way in the future, so they can trust us to some extent and so we can manipulate them. Manipulation is another fun part of being a Shadowdancer, along with writing rituals, and books, and performing things and getting involved in leadership (as draining as it is) and the controversies, and powerstruggles.

We have some good roleplayers that are really hardcore one way, really good at making people feel special and are awesome ( wub.gif shayle ) and who generally like making things interesting. Astraea (current Queen) just did something I've never seen in the Shadowdancers and I'm waiting to see the effects but she makes a lot of things really interesting lately. ( wub.gif Astraea ) Generally the people, if you can find the time to talk to them, are really nice and helpful and they will interact with you for a long time. Just have to make yourself known and find them and start a casual conversation and things can escalate from there.

Alright, I'm done with my RP rave of the Shadowdancers.

I honestly think the best bet for you to by happy with your character is to take a quick look at the helpfiles, see which guild appeal to you most, or catch your imagination. The make a few alts and take it from here.

I personally really like the Harbingers, we may be awfully low on numbers at the moment but the majority of the people are really nice I find - helpful, sense of humour and at least decent roleplayers.
I wouldn't ever say I was some genius at RP but I'm always up for the stuff, ((if you can forgive the typos that crop in here and there)). I'm actually trying to get the Harbingers into more of a preaching role - spreading news of the Wyrd outside the Glomdoring and things like that outside the basic performance/defense role. If that interests you, why not give the guild a go wink.gif

I can't think of a single example of Daganev's life that isn't great RP. smile.gif

Too many examples, it would flood the boards!

I don't know. I see a lot of "RP", but I put RP in quotes because it is so transparent an attempt at roleplay that it is utterly unconvincing, not to mention something you can see a mile away.

If you're looking for the best RP, it can be subtle, and not very flashy. The best RP doesn't come in "events", or sermons/rituals, etc. Those are just the icing on the cake. The best RP is a constant adherence to making your character act "true".

The best RP isn't turned "on" when it's time for "RP mode", only to be abandoned for frivolous emoting when OOC friends log on - something that very few can actually do. I know I sure as hell can't.

A lot of the time I see people using flashy custom emotes and rhetoric in an attempt to roleplay, and it just comes off as identical to bad acting. I'm not saying that's necessarily bad for a certain type of character (some characters suit over the top, pantomime-esque gesticulations - like the mustache-twirling villains in the upper echelons of Fains order) but I judge roleplay more by the ability to stay within character than the ability to foist your character on others.

I think the question here is not "what RP can an org give you", but rather, "what RP can you give to your org".

What's your plan for a character, first of all! tongue.gif

Ok! Reply time! First of all, thanks to all of you for replying. To clarify; I am aware that RP isn't an on and off thing. I am also, however, aware that a large portion of this game is concerned more with combat than staying in role (and with good reason! there is an excellent combat system in this game). However, as neither my interests nor my money allows me to do pursue such a path, I tend to stick to having fun more by simply role playing.

As I mentioned, I've played before, although it was quite a while ago. I am *well* aware that great RPers can be found in all of the orgs; frankly, the reason I made this thread is that I couldn't really choose which character idea to go with, and wanted to use the fact that everyone loves talking about themselves, because its lots of fun.

I've been in every org, for at least some time, when making characters in the past; despite any discrepancies, I think its interesting to take into account how an org views itself as well as how I view it.

To answer Mirin-Carvier: again, I'm not sure. But, I was thinking of trying to make a less levelheaded character (although I can be quite emotional in real life, I tend to play my characters as I do emails and such - extremely careful, and reserved. It would be interesting for me personally to play a character who thinks less, and acts more on direct instinct). Additionally, I was thinking of an idea similar to what Ryleth mentioned: an ambassador of sorts, although I was thinking in a more secular manner.

In summary, thanks! If anyone still wants to brag, please do. I haven't decided yet, but I will in the near future.

Ok, thanks everyone, I've worked out where I want to go!

Please, though, do post if you have a particularly delightful interaction with someone. It's good to share the joy smile.gif.

Hear here! Someone who recognizes RP is ongoing and not something you do just when you get bored!! Living in Lusternia is RP. I don't understand the phrases "best rp here" and so on because at all times there is role play going on all around, walking through the woods is role playing, strolling down the street is role playing. Looking up at the sky and while laying down in the grass with your friends and determining the shape of clouds. When it is done in Lusternia every action is you role playing your character.

I wonder if people interchange the word culture with role playing. I can understand an organization having a better culture, a tighter nit group, a more engaging atmosphere, but I can't understand how one organization can be better role play than another.
