I'm planning on shifting Orti a little bit. Once he gets more deeply into the ninjakari, I want to make him as secretive as possible. To the point of not making any sound at all. However, is it possible? Is it feasible?
Communicating on the different channels(ct, gt) is ok, I believe. You are not talking, but rather sending messages with your mind, right? Communicating among guild mates is no problem at all. I could use sign among them. But, with others? Would tells be alright? How about emoting? Orti is trans Psychometabolism, which has roots on Psionics and one of the abilities there is Psychicblock which blocks telepathic communication. Wouldn't I be able to emote some kind of psionic speech?
What do you guys think?

No, they're sound, just carried on aetherwaves (radio). That's why deafness blocks them, for instance. However, you don't have to say it out loud too -- that's why people can't (normally) hear you if they stand next to you when you aether. Presumably it's subvocalized -- so it's definitely sound at the receiving end, but it's not audible at the sending end. So is that good enough?
The same is true of tells.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing as a follower of Nocht, the silent. Reminds me of Arya from Song of Ice and Fire.
I think it is feasible, but I would restrict gt and ct but not tells.

I went all the way from 1-90 without talking with atellus, no tells, no says, no channels, nothing. He made GR3 and CR2-3ish as well.
It was a whole vow of silence thing. You can not really pull of a real "can not talk" character because of things like insanity or stupidity that cause you to involuntarily speak. Also some guildhalls require you to speak to enter, I bugged others to let me in which worked but probably got old for them. You also can not influence which became an issue during revolts. A debate also semi-forces you to speak depending on how you interpret things (and debating back definitely requires speech).
I had fun getting my points across with various emotes but I decided that it was just not worth maintaining forever so I set a goal and ended the vow when I reached it.
Best of luck to you!

The mute character is the most obnoxious and overdone online RP gimmick in the history of obnoxious and overdone online RP gimmicks. The vow of silence isn't quite the same thing, but I'm not convinced it won't be equally obnoxious.

Second-most. The most is "my parents were killed tragically".

At least that doesn't get in anyone's way though.

Pity the poor guild leaders who have to read backgrounds to check them off for some guild advancement path, though!
