Oh em gee, this dog... Gonna steal him from my own aunt.

Is that a particular breed, or a mutt? Either way his coloring is awesome.

I have some pics of my tabby cat I'll post later today. She's pretty adorable.

He's an Australian shepherd, and I'm pretty sure he has papers documenting his pedigree or something, because they paid a sh!t-ton for him. Kind of a pointless expense unless they intend to breed him or show him (and they don't), but I'm not going to complain if it means having an impossibly adorable puppy in the family. wub.gif

Yeah, I don't really understand paying so much for a pure bred pet.

I'll always buy a mixed breed of whatever pet I have - I don't think it's fair that people dismiss giving them a home based on something that doesn't matter like being pure bred.

I enjoy both. For most of my life, my family had two dogs--a mutt and a German Shepherd. While the first mutt was an unholy terror, a grump of grumps, and a meanine, the next mutt we ended up adopting was the sweetest, gentlest, most loving big dog a family could ever want.

We always had German Shepherds, however, not for their looks, but for their instincts. Living in the city, we wanted a dog that would help protect us. Some dogs are better at that than others--the mutt couldn't have protected us if his life depended on it. But a German Shepherd is bred to be protective.

So if you want/need a dog for a specific purpose, then I advise getting a dog bred for that purpose. If you are just looking for an awesome companion, then any dog adopted from a shelter will be happy to go home with you and love you for the rest of its life in return for food and a place to sleep (preferably your bed, heh). We need both in our lives.

I'm scared of dogs. If one so much as stares at me, I back away immediately. This little ball of energy just happens to be my exception..and my dream pet. wub.gif

This is the latest pic I could get..she has really cute shots but she's significantly smaller in those pictures. She grows so much I can't believe we've had her for a little more than a month.

When I have settled down in a place of my own (not student/temporary housing, which I'll be in for the next two years), I'll get a German Shepherd puppy of my own. I want now sad.gif .

Yeah. The vet somehow assured us that she's just playful because she's a puppy. Asked some people knowledgeable with dogs to help train her. smile.gif
I also want to train her so she can sleep with me. Whenever I put her on the couch or any mattress, she'd just prance around even if she was supposed to be sleepy.

I let him bite my hand under his pillow playfully. He's a crazy bundle of energy, and really fun to wrestle around with. biggrin.gif

Well, then, I just have to think that it's my puppy. biggrin.gif Sometimes she thinks my hands or arms are chew toys.

Big dogs that snarl at you and bite you in an angry way frightens me more than the staring does. suspicious.gif

Big dogs need to be trained that that is not okay. Unless you teach them very specifically when it is okay and when it is not okay. The only big dogs people need to be afraid of are those that are not well trained. I've grown up with big GS's my whole life (sometimes they were even bigger than I was), but they have been well trained, so I've never been afraid of them.
Fuyu2011-05-25 16:40:40
I've always been scared of dogs, even small ones. And those big, scary dogs kept in their cages or leashes (looking like they'll maul you the moment they can run after you)..they just scare the wits out of me at times..more so if they aren't even leashed or caged.

I know next to nothing about dog training..so my uncle said he'd approach a trainer for help. Chione's really playful and friendly. I can't even bring her out without a mouth guard or she'll chew at everything and everyone. Well..if she gets trained she can roam around the house and sleep on the bed, right?
