Without going too deep into the comments, the relevant parts seem to be this:
QUOTE
Single players will not be able to have children. For various RP reasons, it is impossible to find your child unless you are married to the child's other parent under a family name.
Were these various RP reasons ever discovered by the players?

and this:
QUOTE
Some RP ramifications may be that ambitious families (i.e., those wanting to become Great Houses) will be very insistent that their younger members get married and have children. (Nagging mothers and fathers may be common. Not to mention the familial grief of having a child marry outside the family and/or rejecting his or her family name.)

By the latter, you meant that's a side-effect, right? Not a desired goal. I don't think people really enjoy it, and we weren't thinking of it as something likely to be protected.

(I know you aren't posting this as a response to the discussion, I'm just curious about these two things anyway.)

I would like to see it so that all 3 members did not have to be logged in to consider someone. Saaga and Snaithy have been waiting for Talikh to be logged in at the same time for about 10 IC years so we can consider him. Nightmare sad.gif Wasnt so bad when Talikh was away but now hes been back about a RL month and we are still no closer to adopting him.

For much the same reason as centaurs were shelved as a player race (too many legs to code), Estarra and Roark also decided to shelve the Protozoa (too few legs to code). It was a giant shame really, although Prota still exists within the mythos as an awakener of jellies and yeast, and part of the same creche as Crumkane.

The idea was that the family system would have different rules for ordinary humanoids and for Protazoans - humanoids would require two parents, but Protazoans could only have one, and the descriptions and stats of all subsequent progeny (and their progeny) would be auto-set according to that of their parent or ultimate grandsire. These were the 'RP' reasons Estarra stated, Shiri - and I hope that answers your question!

As I understand it, one of the main reasons (aside from coding difficulties) given for dropping the Protozoa was because they wouldn't appeal to the mudding mudsex community. So we got furrikin instead, and the whole story of Lusternia was changed, irreparably, for the worse.

I think the new change is quite cool, but I'm a bit confused with the wording.

Does this mean that both founding siblings may not be married when they go to consider a sibling? Or does it mean that one sibling must not be married and of course the new one being considered not be married?

Just an honest question. grin.gif

Thanks. Really.

While not allowing single people to adopt can be somewhat cruel, it does prevent things like a character having 20 children, 3 of whom are fathered/mothered by person A, 5 by person B, 2 by person C, 6 by his/her sibling, 1 by his/her own parent, and 3 by some random other people*. In theory it, along with the "no close relations marrying one another" rule, probably cuts down on inbreeding.

*This happens in other places which I shall not name.

(Also, Fain, that was hilarious)

Simple solution to this seemingly big problem. Increase the consideration time for a child to be adopted by a single parent from the current, to 2 IG years. Secondly, one should only be able to adopt 3 kids max, as a single parent. (lets face it, no one, I dont care who you are, no one can handle more then 5 kids by themselves as a single parent, you need some help somehow)

Yes, please! Aramel has been trying to adopt her kids for 5 RL months with no success. Please make it so that you only need one parent with the child, and the other parent can FAMILY CONSIDER AGREE to agree to it next time they log in.

Please, please, pretty please.
