How many unnecessary things does your commune buy, though?

Once, Lord Charune suggested what Serenwilde needed was something like a tapestry that symbolized what Serenwilde was about and would help motivate and unify people. I spent hours retooling a design, then paid the design fee for it. Trouble is, there's nowhere to hang tapestries except fairly out-of-the-way places. I did finally put it up, even got a communefavour from the Seneschal for it; but when it decayed, hardly anyone had seen it, despite it being pointed out many times. Never got a penny back for the cost. Put a second one up, but when that one decayed, I stopped bothering. So far as I know, no one even noticed.

But boy, do they notice fast when a desk decays. Fast and loud and often.

The only other thing we have is the table and chairs in the dining hall. That comes out of my pocket too.

Honestly, we don't buy often but I do know of one Guild that wants its guild hall furnished. I think we keep a desk/chair in the post office, and table/chairs in the tower. Communes have it a bit weird, we don't really have many places to put furniture because we don't have any places that most of it would make sense.

Do we really want furniture cluttering up the forest floor?

See, this is why I think my Inn idea will really hit off when it's finally complete (which will take so long, since it's a five story thing with a few trade workstations for authenticity.) People renting rooms without the need to buy (though there is that option for the burrows) the room, and the rooms fully furnished with a stasis gem to prevent decay. A desk and a chair and bookshelf accessible to anyone renting a room on their floor. This is the only way to get serious gold with my artisan abilities, as it s the permanent furniture that'll draw in the people. (The vacant rooms actually see a lot of use with the rockers/beds from the people who can access them.)

I understand the lack of respect though. Some people are simply rude as Nil when you install furniture for them, and don't even bother to tip. Often if it's for a guild/org, they won't favour either. Artisans put up with a lot of censor.gif for very little gratitude (I'm happy Eliron is the GA of the Harbingers though, he is a very awesome guy to work with).

However, just becoming Eboncraft TM and I've already recieved requests for guild-specific items. Some have even designed the items for me, and in the case of the Harbingers, actually paid for the submission cost. ( Again, wub.gif to the Harbingers.)

So people reading through this thread, show artisans a bit more love. They take a huge financial loss simply from being an artisan, they deserve the respect of their dedication and the work they -often- volunteer for you. What would happen if the few in your org decided they were fed up and didn't want to install new desks for you?

Nor letters, scrolls, books, etc. Letters are often used for treaties by org leaders, scrolls used in org's libraries, as well as the various types of books. There are consequences of not being able to write, more than just your puny journal.

I always demand payment for anything I do for the city. I require the cost of comms and 4k as a labor fee for desks and chairs. I think that is pretty fair and cheap, and I have to make a living somehow.

I charge between 5k-10k for thrones/chandeliers and a dining room set.

Recently I've had to raise my prices to 3k for a labor fee, just because after decades of only charging 2k (occasionally), I found myself actually struggling for gold with my trade. Not to mention, someone keeps going around and buying out every commodity they can, so the comm prices have shot up drastically.

I actually make quite a bit of gold furnishing guildhalls. Paladins, Aquamancers, and Celestines. Zalandrus occasionally takes some of my business, and Jigan did for the Paladins, but since Z is partially dormant and Jigan is a traitor, Aison pretty much has monopoly over the cities artisan district. Which is nice, but it's not a sure money-maker.

And Lendren is right... Citizens are sure to complain lond and loudly when a desk and chair decays in that post office...

Take your time investment, multiply by several thousand. Take your price investment per item, quintuple it, then cut demand by a factor of twentybajillion, then you have forging. Seriously, if I could charge 2k per unit time, I'd be really really freaking happy.

I'm so glad I saved up 1500 of all metal comms when they were cheap (some time last IRL year).

I've been putting things in the hartstone hall randomly, and the leader groves had hammocks and stools I think
