That's exactly how it works, as I understand it, Gregori.

* Accepting new members into the family.
Now that implies if I farm newton I get honour for every kid welcomed into the family. Which is wrong.
If the implication is wrong, i.e it really means people marrying into the family, then the wording needs to say that.

okay, the debate thing...Why the heck would anyone in Celest care that D'murani is "honorable"
They're magnagoran scum to us. They are our enemies, walking around saying in a snobby voice "I am right because I am from so-and-so family."
No...just...no

I'm all for Great Houses having a bigger impact, but I'm against them getting influencing bonuses...
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that being in a Great House would have a NEGATIVE impact on charity influencing...

Which in no way solves the problem of no one but insanely big houses being able to participate in this coolness. It further favours being part of them and no one in their right mind will now say: Hey, this sounds cool, lets get me a Great House. Just 1-2 years of work and BAM, I'll have myself a House!
And no, just because having whoever in your family won't help you be the most honourable family, doesn't mean that people will stop adopting randomly and taking whoever. It's not all about being the best of the best but being able to participate alone.
And yes, 'inactive' members are those who marry out, divorce, reject the family, not inactive in full meaning of that word. Whilst a lot of them are established players, this doesn't change the fact that now is now and they are not here so how can they have much of an impact on how the family is viewed? Yes, we had X in our family ages ago, he may have died aeons ago and no one remembers him, but we do have him...
Make lesser great houses PLS.

It says the Family head can disown someone.... lol I think that's the DUMBEST thing ever since it's an elected seat.
Can they disown people higher in the 'food chain' then them?
Can they disown people not even in their bloodline?
How the heck does that work

I actually think that being able to disown people is the best thing since Teleport in Planar but it needs to be given to other families TOO.
PS. Yes, I will continue to randomly speak in bold, italics and capital letters unless we get lesser houses! I will implement an annoying font colouring scheme as well as a next step of my protest.

I can't see what really can be gained through this system, though of course it's bound to see a new surge of alts. It's also going to make smaller families harder to estabish themselves as great houses and those near that status will likely be scouring novices to scoop any up with even a sliver of potential. Having a great house member on an org's ruling council will actually prove to be interesting, especially in Glomdoring where only elected and appointed officials make it into the Court clan. In all, I'd say this new family system not only condones, but encourages nepotism and cliqueish behavior. Wewt.

1. Why are Admin doing this for 3 families in the whole game?
2. Why do families get an elected seat on the council? This should be up to the GMs and leader of the City. Just because you popped out 45 kids doesn't mean you or any of them are going to be intelligent, or even good at politics.
3. Why do they get all those beneficial boosts?
Summary: Why are the Admin encouraging people to be complete dumbasses and adopt whoever steps from the portal?
This change was unnecessary and is pretty one-sided.
Efforts need to go towards fixing monks and combat, not making additions for a select few of the Basin
edit: as if it wasn't already hard to adopt kids because of the dekoven family.... now it's going to be pretty much a .6% chance of bagging any good ones.

Well, I personally LOVE nepotism and cliquish behavior stemming from people "scouring novices to scoop up any with even a sliver of potential." Don't that make the best, least-contradictory behavior?! <3

It's been said COUNTLESS TIMES that different coders work on different systems. I don't think you're in any position at all to comment on the use of coding resources.

It'd be awesome, only if it worked properly. IE: Can't disown someone not in your family blood line or higher above you, thus deleting someones parents.
Ashai2008-06-11 19:41:45
Well, within several hours of the new change, the present most prestigious Lusternian house is undergoing a schism. Woo mechanics!
Munsia2008-06-11 19:43:36
So, when shall we start pointing out the people that have multiple characters in the same family?

Not really, especially coming from one who has displayed well blown out of proportion angst against Glomdoring and some Glomdoring players.
Catarin2008-06-11 19:46:10
Now can we get the choice of whether to align with your birth family (if you have one) or your married family and your children having that option too please? It's hard enough to get quality kids without some great house siren swooping in to add them to their numbers!

Let's keep the posts at least decent, and not degrade into a wild fight of personal attacks. That's to all of you!

Idea: Make Great House status the same as Vote Weight status.

Hmm, I do think the head of the family should be able to disown anyone but the founders obviously. The disown privilege is there so that the head, chosen by majority of the family mind you, can throw out the people bringing your family shame. It shouldn't matter if that person is your brother or niece, you are given the vote of the whole family to decide its fate. So... if you disown someone important and the family doesn't agree, contest and force them to take them back! And disowning saps a lot of honour too, so I think that works fine.
I agree with Xavius that more members of the Council should be included in confirming things.
And once again: bring on the lesser houses!

I think it should matter... or if there's a disown there should be a vote on it... but even then. It's not up to the person whose family is whose. That's why 'family consider' was put in... and why they have to wait a year. Wasting that away because someone is having a bad day is dumb. I guarentee that 90% of the time noone would even bother contesting. Cause the current great houses are stupid like that.
