It's completely reasonable to have a 'disown' function if the family is going to have an elected Head of the household. How else will the family stay in line and keep their family name from being tarnished if they can't ostracize the hooligans? If a decent Head is elected, this will keep the novice farms from becoming too unbearable.
Just thinking ahead!

I still think "disown" should be an option for ALL families.

Lesser and Banner houses please.

And once again: bring on the lesser houses!
Why am I getting a House Atreides/House Harkonnen/Dune/Family Feud feeling from this idea?
P.S.: Nariah, that's some dedication to go through and rainbow colour code that sentence

Woa, I think you guys need to calm down and look at this objectively. Actually look at it and not just assume since it involed Great Houses it must be bad. If you look at the history, anything that involed Great Houses has resulted in mass forum riots, and still the Great Houses don't mean much.
Even now. I'm sure the influence bonus is quite minor, and the seat on the council won't happen unless the Council approves it. Obviously it makes sense in Magnagora, like Emar said, but Glomdoring isn't going to approve of a d'Murani on the ruling council just because of their name.
Personally, I gain nothing from this. I don't live in Magnagora and I don't influence. Heck, our patron isn't my god and this change means is that Kaervas can kick me out if I piss him off.
The houses that have farmed newton will continue to farm newton wether this Great House thing is around or not. A minor influence bonus won't change anything. This, when you calm down and look at it objectively, is just an RP and flavour change that will impact the game in a very small way.
Calm down! Stop running for the bomb shelters just because you heard an airplane.

And to reiterate, make a Great House's status based on activity like Vote status, so that it doesn't encourage alt abuse.

Though I will say one thing negative...really stupid that I don't get a vote in the family election. Really really stupid. I contribute to the honour, I want a freaking vote.
Edit: @rauros: Stop trolling. You have nothing useful to add. You are just one in the mindless horde screaming over nothing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I like this. That having been said, I'd love to see more weight given to non-combat, non-influence honor, such as prestige publications, publications in general, Trademasters, rank, and guild honours.

I do like this. Perhaps add honour to the family if a member wins a Bardic, too

I think the best family change needed now is to allow Polygamy! Bring on the wives!
Nariah2008-06-11 20:37:06
I don't think everyone gathered here is against the new addition. No, I think a great majority of the ranters like it a lot. I know I do, this is a great addition and adds a lot of flavour so thumbs up for Morgfyre. What we are ranting about are some specifics and limitations. We're not liking that only big families can participate in this, we're not liking what this encourages and some of the things it allows.
For some positive input besides my plea for lesser houses: could add library publications, winning prestige, producing a play, a play winning, holding trademastery in city/commune cartels, being awarded guild honours, maybe even gaining quest honours count towards honour, even if just minorly.
I fell prey to the Triple X condition!
Also, 500 culture points for best family? No, thank you. I hope the fact I am saying this whilst Magnagora is probably going to keep that bonus semi-permanently shows my lack of bias for this. 500 is seriously too much and favours further herding into one family and giving that family positions and powers so that they are victorious.

My only requests for this is to require the ruling council to approve to give Great Houses their council seat once the GH has the required honour points.
Also, I want to reduce the number of people it takes to reach Great House, as much as I'd love Lusternia to be packed, it isn't. There's a problem if it's taken 3 RL years to even start with a system.
