The following log snipit comes from a fight I had with Karnagan. Just to get it out of the way, I suck, I am a lolppk monk, and he kicked my ass until I had to run like a little girl.

Having said that on reviewing my log (need to learn from every ass kicking! smile.gif ) I noticed the following section which just seemed odd to me.

QUOTE

10:17:54a | You have recovered balance on your left arm.
10:17:55a | You lock Karnagan's left arm in a solid grapple using your left arm.
10:17:55a | You strike out at Karnagan, but your fist misses by mere inches.
10:17:55a | 6667h, 5646m, 6151e, 2p exk<>-
10:17:55a | Karnagan carefully writhes out of your grapple, escaping your grasp.

Note the timestamps. I locked Karnagan left arm in a grapple, and then one second latter (this was under hyperactive) I toss him, breaking the grapple. Two second later I grapple the same left arm again, but he instantly writhes out of it.

My suspicion is that the writhe code is still writhing out of the first grapple despite the fact that the toss should have canceled it. I will have to test to see if changing the grappled limb would still show this but I wanted to put this out there for comment first. I can BUG this in game if this really is a bug, but for all I know this is how writhe and grapple are supposed to work.

Also just to be clear, even if this was a bug it had no large impact on the fight, I would have still gotten my ass kicked.

O_O Yeah, I ended up being called away to things more important than beatin' on you. I don't know how the HECK monks can continue to regard double leg tendon like it ain't no thing, but whatever, we'll run with it. At any rate, that was definitely an informative fight. You didn't RP with me after, which made me sad. sad.gif

Mwaahahaah!

Not a bug, it's just how writhe works. You web/impale/grapple/etc shortly after the previous since their writhe didn't fully complete it still counts it as that first writhe. Same reason Blademasters can't keep people double pinlegged/impaled very easy. Been this way for quite a while.

Yeah, this has been "bugged" for a long time (or just left intact and not a bug, same thing here), but hasn't been fixed with good reason: if it weren't a single newbie monk could keep any given target permanently proned.

Sorry! But honestly I am not sure what I would even have atellus say. Clearly Karnagan has fully embraced the Taint so no debate would be possible. There would be no reason to admit to a sworn enemy that he was weak. I know that makes for some dull interaction out of combat but I have just never been the type to RP someone who talks with clear enemies.

Ah that makes sense. I suspect the code just removes one grapple affect when it finishes and to "fix" this something more complex would need to be done. I think a cleaner method of doing this would be a grapple immunity, similar to the stun immunity, but if this is the way things are balanced around now I can see how it would not be changing.

I already bugged the issue in game as some Divine Voice told me to (and I always do what the voices in my head say!) but I assume it will just be deleted on review. Thanks for the replies though!

As much as everyone would like to see monks being able to grapple, throw, grapple, throw, grapple, throw over and over again allowing nobody to do anything... the powers that be saw fit to add in a slight failsafe. You are right on the nose with it being a messy immunity of sorts, though it is more likely to slow down someone's system than it is to cause you any overwhelming harm.
