I'm almost sure it's not a "cult" in the meaningful sense, it's two mafia groups. That's why Xenthos (bear) was toaded (witch.)

Anyway, the point is that you can afford to sac a townie in order to catch a scum because there are proportionally less of them than us...or more importantly, the scum can't afford to sac a scum in exchange for a townie for the same reason (meaning they probably wouldn't try that gambit). Besides, there's always the chance Myrkr is a legitimate investigator and just being a newbie.

About the cult: yes, but a cult who could also kill (toad) people would be retarded. I'm guessing the deal with Karnagan is the same as when mafia get a cop if they "kill" it first: instead of killing it, you recognise it and keep them as a member.

Would they be a cult if the recrutible members already knew they were recrutible? The smooze just seems like a different role. The witches could of used him if they found out who he is. Like in the movie they had to summon him. Seems more like a Mafia then a cult, they just had a sort of hidden weapon.

Actually, according to that role he was not recrutible. He always won with the witches even if the witches didn't find him. He just never got the roleblock if they did not find him. Really does not sound like a cult.
