Visaeris' proclamation of how he's finally not scum is rather bizarre. Why do that? Why call that kind of attention to yourself at all? If you're telling the truth, aren't you now a night target? It seems strange, Vis: FOS: Visaeris
Well, truth be told, my proclamation doesn't really change anything. It doesn't hurt me and it only helps in some minor way. The scum already know I'm not scum, so I'm no more a night target than I was. If anything it's more likely to make me catch an investigation, which works in my favor.
As for Karnagan, that's his style. He's got a touch of the 'special' in him, and he loves to use this hyper-aggressive confusing nonsense as a post style. It wouldn't surprise me if he was scum, but it's not conclusive in and of itself.
Whereas Casilu's intuition is nonsense.
Nonsense, I tell you!
Bears intuit. Ponies do not!

Ew. I don't like how this game is shaping up already.
Reading through the posts, I'm already feeling really uneasy about a few people, though specifically Karnagan, Jigan, and Visaeris.

Well, if you're not a member of the scum, they already know you're the enemy. It's quite true that Visaeris looks good and suspicious whenever he posts, and certainly he's claimed to be town when he's guilty as sin before, but come on. He knows that claiming you're town doesn't exactly paint a bullseye for the mob.
QUOTE(Shayle @ Jul 4 2008, 02:25 PM) 528700
Jigan needs to stop with his google eyes and blind following of Karnagan. Leaping on bandwagons and pushing for lynches of people who have made reasonable roleclams on Day 1 is pushing the limits of sketchy behavior, even for a newbie to the game. FOS: Jigan
Well, yes. That's why I told him that maybe he should divert his attention away from Shiri, and find a better target. Leaping on the bandwagon is one thing, as I remember there were 10 people doing it at its highest point, but now he's off it. As for the google eyes and silliness, I think this would be a lot duller without Jigan, and I happen to like entertainment, so why not keep around a guy who's not especially scummy?
QUOTE(Shayle @ Jul 4 2008, 02:25 PM) 528700
But the person I think is most disturbing this far is Karnagan, who is painfully arrogant, very aggressive in his postings, posting a lot of jibberish, and able to change Jigan's vote with ease. Hi. I think you're scummy. Vote: Karnagan
Why, halo there! I tend to argue with people in my postings a good bit, yes. As I remember, half the point to Mafia games was verbally sparring with people until they slip up and perhaps reveal something they shouldn't. I don't like to think I'm all that arrogant, especially as everyone from the last game will tell you it WAS me that got Visaeris killed, and later served as a target for Druken to try and lynch. I'm sorry if my posts are going over your head, Shayle, but then again I suspect they aren't. Visaeris tried a lot of the "oh, Karnagan's logic is absolutely HORRID, don't listen to him" last game as well. Look how well that worked out for him. Personally, I think the town is outright silly if they don't work to investigate Visaeris starting tonight. The man's a professional liar and listening to him is only marginally safer than housing a rattlesnake in your pantyhose.
Look, just as a question about Jigan: what is the alternative to the "blind following," Shayle? Maybe it'd be better if we just lynched our roleblocker, instead? Would you maybe prefer it if I didn't try to persuade people away from killing valuable townies? Jigan's made one change due to something I posted, and I like to think it's because I persuaded him not to kill Shiri- rather than some mystic mind bond that we apparently share.
The more I consider your post, the more I consider the entire thing about twice as suspicious as anything Casilu's said. So!

FoS: Bali for strange claims about not being a pony, bear, or witch, immediately going 'Oops, I said nothing' right after, and that short, unconstructive post.
Anyway, I'm going to bed. Night.

Two things: First, there is absolutely nothing that would bring you to a conclusion that I'd like to see Shiri lynched, not even remotely. Is that what you'd like people to believe based on some strange application of "logic'?
Second, your powers of "persuasion" are legendary. Really. Your vote for me just strengthens my feeling that you're scum.
Karnagan2008-07-04 17:29:17
Wasn't really trying to persuade YOU, Shayle, for what I hope are obvious reasons. You brought up me changing Jigan's mind with ease, implying that there's some sort of scummy reason behind it. I pointed out that it was a simple bit of logic against Jigan's silly but amusing decision that Shiri wasn't fluffy enough. I don't know how you can read a sinister motive into defending the town's roleblocker, so a little sarcasm about your true motives seemed in order. Way I saw it, you'd have to be pretty silly or a scum player to suggest that me talking Jigan out of lynching Shiri was a bad idea.
I tend to know the difference between people who get arguments, people who don't get it, and people who get it but pretend not to. Your cleverness is a well-established fact of Lusternian lore. Which is why I think that your "OH MY POOR BRAIN" response to my posting, when a great many other people certainly don't think it's jibberish, and certainly the catty schoolgirl insults, are a less sophisticated form of Visaeris' defense- you know, the kind he holds up every time he's trying to talk his way out of being considered a mafia.

Hmm. After reading 7 pages, I'm inclined to agree with Shayle somewhat. However, being as it's day one, getting information is key so I'll go along with the others for now and Vote: Casilu.

This game already went insane as I slept. So, after reading four pages I still don't fully understand why you all bandwagoned on Shiri. Though the potential of scum was there with the odd defense. The role does check out, My little ponies has a few different non-pony characters. And the Harbitt thing also checks out, either Shiri is a fan and pulled out a great lie or that role is very real.
As for people who look scummy, Visaeris, though no more then he usually does. Nice touch with the underlining and italics. Especially switching them if they mention bears or ponies. Karnagan and Jigan, maybe. As some sort of team with how Jigan has just been following Karnagan.
Vote: Bali for now as the "oops!" posts and the wierd one, is that sapposed to be a power? Either way they have not been helpful at all.

I really, really don't understand where this "Jigan and Karnagan are a team" thing comes from. Jigan actually voted for Shiri before me, and then I added to the presser at the end. When Shiri revealed their role, Jigan was not convinced, and he made a joke about it. I let him down gently and explained why lynching our roleblocker would be a poor idea. This isn't exactly slavish following: by this kind of "logic," Lorick, Furien, and Sarrasri are all on my team, secretly using Shiri's arguments as cover.
I'm not asking to just go out and lynch Visaeris withut proof, but the man has been in a number of mafia games, and remains able to explain his way out of votes that damage the town on multiple occassions. He's a good mafia player, which makes it a rather strong imperative to investigate him just as quick as you can. I'm switching my vote to Casilu to add to the presser, but let's be clear, letting very strong players run around with no clue to their motivations is a horrible idea.

Wow, this game really did explode pretty quickly.
So, discussion, suspicion, etc.
I've caught up on all the posts (unless someone ninja's me), and now I'm wondering if there's a connection between Bali and Shiri. Bali did make that really short, unhelpful post about not being a Witch, a Pony, or a Care Bear, followed by "Oops!" and then Shiri's roleclaim (valid or not), was also that he didn't fit any of those groups. (Also, what was that "Dream Castle" bit from Bali?)
Is there some sort of link between the two (either genuinely scummy, or maybe in relation to the witches? I seem to recall witches keeping animal familiars), or is Shiri bluffing?
I am wary of Shayle, but then you sort of have to be. She's proven she's good at this, and she's known for her cleverness. I'm not especially suspicious of her, but her skills as a manipulator are always going to sit in the back of my mind.
Karnagan... I'm not sure what to say. I don't remember, just from skimming the previous game's thread as it played out, if he was this aggressive then. Everyone seems to think he was, which I suppose is good enough for me right now.
Vis seems more like a propagandist than scum, though I could be wrong.
Jigan seems not to be taking this too seriously, but he's even more of a newbie than I am, and what I know of him seems to be in line with the silliness he's showing here.
Casilu really could be making better arguments, but I haven't seen anything overtly scummy from her. It's also possible I haven't played enough to know exactly what I'm looking for.
Comments, anyone? Anything to add?

Well, it's also the first day, which typically seems to the the worst in terms of confusion. We don't have a lot to go on as far as who's being shady, and we've already got a roleclaim.
Casilu2008-07-04 20:33:49
And more likely than not, they're trying to get one from me, however, I would prefer not to do such quite yet, so I'll wait until I get three or so more votes. It would be better off if I didn't reveal my role, solely because of the wasted effort it'd produce for the Mafia. If I have to reveal my role this early, it would spare the Mafia alot of time.

You realise 3 votes puts you one off from a lynch and makes it very easy to speed lynch you?

As an alternative option you could try and explain why you posted about your "gut feeling" and "instinct" and why Shiri seemed suspicious despite doing nothing.
Instead of forcing us to make you roleclaim.
