Plus, if you have enough training in Combat, with a shield rune you get to do this:
(In theory you can also hit people other than Laysus, but I don't recommend it.)

You swing a mandolin of pale wood with all your might, smashing it into the head of Laysus with a resounding ring.
(In theory you can also hit people other than Laysus, but I don't recommend it.)

Rock 'n roll, baby.

I believe the proper terminology for this sort of attack, Morgfyre, is 'El Kabong'.
(This is how I picture Lendren now, by the way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmemBa1HAzU...feature=related - No, I'm not going for a forum-wide rick roll. I save those for special occasion.)

Zia and I (mostly Zia) designed a special lute for Dreyanna called the Kabonker, actually.
Dreyanna's gone dormant but her lute is still in our guildhall's instrument rack.
But it was very definitely "kabonk", not "kabong"...

You carefully study an artisan design.
Item: Lute Type: Instruments Org: Wildecraft
Commodities: wood 80 steel 10 jade 10
Container: No Can Have Lock: No
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: LUTE
Appearance:
a reinforced lute
Dropped:
A sturdy, reinforced lute has been left behind here.
Examined:
This unique lute has been designed for both functionality and beauty. A
teardrop-shaped piece of moonhart wood provides the soundboard, lovingly
smoothed and lacquered to a silvery sheen. Three soundholes have been
cut under the steel strings and shaped into the phases of the moon - the
waxing crescent, full, and waning crescent. The grille over these is
carved into swirls and arabesques like clouds moving across the sky. The
rounded shell of the lute is made of ebony, tough and durable. Thin
strips of blackened steel are set into the wood to reinforce its shape
and ensure that the instrument might withstand great force. The lute's
neck is similarly ebony with steel running neatly up the back to where
the tuning pegs are set. Pale jade is inlaid as the fingerboard,
complementing the silvery face of the instrument. The effect of this
construction is that this lute is unusually heavy, with a deep, woodsy
voice, but the instrument could be wielded as a blunt weapon as easily
as for making music.
