I know this has been asked before, but now it seems we have a few more Trackers about and people have had a lot more time to play around with their skills. I was just wondering if anyone seasoned with the skills would mind a good toe to toe here. I am mostly interested in Tracking V Sacraments. I do expect a lot of "OMG why even ask! Trueheal lulz winbutton!" but still, I am honestly curious. I know it seems silly to give up all of the dmp and such from Sacraments, as well as the cheap rezz for well... stalk and ambush sound cool enough.
So due to my lack of knowledge, anyone want to throw their experience/comments in on this one? It would be much appreciated.

Don't bother with tracking, especially if you're going Paladin. It burns comms like crazy, to the tune of 25k gold a day if you're actively fighting, sometimes less/more. Traps are great, but mileage on normal tertiaries is greater except in extreme cases like "the Geb".
The Paladin bit is because we are perpetually out of comms for traps.

Oh wow. That bad huh? Ouch, never would I have imagined 25k a day.

And you do not take sacraments for trueheal, you take it for Numen.
Simimi2008-07-09 22:12:40
I know, I miss numen... but I steal expected the Trueheal to come up somewhere. So the consensus is Tracking isn't even worth the time, right?

On the other hand, you'd have a golden retriever.
And trackers come in handy at the oddest times.
That said, you should listen to people who know what they're talking about. And then do what's the most fun for you anyway.

The tracking skills (especially tent) tickle my RP flavour skills bone. But Sacraments has "tank the world" scribbled on it in bad toy handstyles. The plot thickens!
Plus the visual of an axelord: stalk/ambush/cleave is amazing.

When I was pondering, I was basically told Sacraments for defense, tracking for offense. I was really only considering tracking because there aren't that many of them (at least, there weren't at the time) and I like having skillsets that not many others have, plus I could help Celest that way. But, I decided the benefits weren't worth not having numen and rez and the few other skills in sacraments that I like.
Simimi2008-07-09 22:53:28
My thought process is about the same as yours was Acrune. I would like to be unique, and FINALLY BE ABLE TO CAMP IN THE SKARCH OR ON ZOAKA!!!111oneoneone but not having rez/numen/trueheal/honour/fortuna(I will need it as a Dracnari) seems kind of painful. Trophy could be fun though, if I ever killed anyone, which would not be happening anyway.

Take Sacraments for Trueheal.

Tracking's nice. The comm issue was partially 'solved' by the change allowing Trackers to recover commodities by disarming other people's traps (many trips to Nil/Celestia to disarm traps, heh.) Clamping is really helpful against other warriors, traps can give you a huge advantage (annoying at times because some people like to run if they get pit'd once).
And Seek/Unite are -awesome-. Easily my favourite skills from Tracking.

I took tracking a long time ago for the retriver.
Then I learned that I also got environment skills and such, like climbing, clinging, and some others.
I was really happy.

Also, to be an effective Tracker you need to transcend Environment.
And you never want to transcend Environment.

Why not? Does environment suck save for tumble? Seek/Unite do what, exactly?
Vathael2008-07-10 00:15:33
You can have your retriever seek out things and then unite to it at whatever it was you were seeking.
Unknown2008-07-10 00:18:29
Seek finds the first thing by that name in the local area. Useful for various purposes.
Unite allows you to teleport to your dog as long as it is in the local area, and it goes through monoliths. Since dogs can go through GreatPentagrams, this can be very useful for getting in/out (since people follow through Unite).

Tracking is like illusions; you cannot disarm/dispell something made by someone with more skill. Skill in environment counts towards tracking for this. If you do not have trans environment, you cannot disarm traps made by someone who does.
