Bandits, on the road, dressed as merchants and attempting to steal and run? Sorry, I don't buy mister eyepatch.

Help the man with the merchant-hat
Daganev2008-07-17 05:03:07
My quite a sicilian dilemma.

1. Obvious fellowship choice is to save the merchant so we can buy some goods.
2. Since its the obvious choice, it must be a trick.
3. The guy with the eye patch claims he will die, and that he was stolen from last night (implying that he is coming FROM the city.
4. The merchant implies he is going TO the city. (if only we could figure out which way we are going!)

5. The eye-patch guy story seems strange and appears to be trying to use our good guy nature of saving his life to help him.

I'm inclined to HELP THE MAN WITH THE MERCHANT HAT

Arix2008-07-17 05:03:26
So you assume that because the other guy has an eyepatch, that he is automatically a bandit?
Lorick2008-07-17 05:04:59
No, just that an armed man was stolen from by a guy in a funny hat and no weapons, and then said bandit ran down the road? I don't buy yeah.

And yes, I hope whoever stole from me enjoys the meager amount.
Xenthos2008-07-17 05:05:15
It is one odd thief who passes up a victim known to have over five-hundred gold... regardless. Having heard both their stories, I see little reason not to believe a merchant over some rogue-- how would a mere merchant who is so obviously unable to take care of himself have managed to nab anything from this man, anyways? It makes little sense to me, so I will vote to assist the merchant.
Unknown2008-07-17 05:05:47
I don't know if I am convinced the merchant will sell us anything if we help him and I swear to god I'd rather shove a hot poker through my eye than repeat day 1 so i'm just going to vote for whichever one is the most likely to get the challenge completed.
Silvanus2008-07-17 05:06:23
Unfortunately, I think Balizar is clever.

I vote to help the man in the eye patch.

No body said that.

He said he didn't believe that a bandit would dress up as a merchant and steal from people at night.

Obviously the person who has the special ability for this challenge is the thief who stole from Lolrick tongue.gif
Lorick2008-07-17 05:08:01
Yeah, least we will know who it is when they start spending large amounts of money.
Arix2008-07-17 05:08:15
we don't actually know Lorick was stolen from. He made a claim that he was poor, and there was a very obvious and better target, so my guess is that he's just trying to cause trouble. But back to the challenge for now. The man with the eye patch says he was robbed IN HIS SLEEP, and has just now caught up to the merchant. If you are asleep it's kinda hard to swing a sword at someone

What does being clever have to do with anything?

You can go back and forth playing the cicilian game. Can you explain what you being clever means?
Unknown2008-07-17 05:08:28
Count is 3/3 right now.

I think something terrible will happen no matter what we do, and on the other side of the coin there will be some benefit. I'm honestly kind of intrigued by the idea of getting to shop from the merchant but I'm not entirely convinced that's not just dag jumping to unreasonable assumptions.
Silvanus2008-07-17 05:10:23
See Visaeris post.

I think bad things might happen either way - and I think Balizar made the not too worse one the less obvious of the two. Besides, if we side with the merchant the man with the patch dies, if we side with the man with the patch, does the merchant die? I dont' think so.
Thul2008-07-17 05:11:08
Nobody dead? Works for me.

HELP THE MAN WITH THE EYEPATCH. He has a point about the killing thing, and eyepatches are worth major awesome points. Merchant hats are negative awesome points. I honestly would've preferred BEAT THEM BOTH UP AND TAKE THEIR STUFF but this isn't a short answer test.

Really, guys, don't overthink this. Pick something and move onto other things.
Lorick2008-07-17 05:11:37
Uh, no.. I assure you we have a theif. And, to be honest, Arix, why would you claim different?
Unknown2008-07-17 05:12:32
Thul is now posting in colour? Why is this. Anyways, if all you merchant hat people convert to the eye patch and Amarysse votes we can just be done with this whole bit and move on to the real focus: defending the townfellowship
Lorick2008-07-17 05:13:23
Vis- They most likely stole from me, because they either didn't believe I didn't really have that much money, or it was personal. As in, from last game.

He claims he will die, but if he is a thief he could also be a liar.

The Merchant's story sounds more plausible than the eye patch story. Who kills someone they hired? They just don't pay them or take money from them.

Also, anyone know what a merchant hat even looks like? tongue.gif
Arix2008-07-17 05:13:45
It's just that you said you were poor, and then Vis got 500 gold, so why would someone rob you instead of Vis? I'm just trying to make sense of it

To be fair, Arix never said you weren't stolen from/that we didn't have a thief. He simply said we can't prove you were stolen from. Which is an accurate, if irrelevant statement.

We should operate on the assumption that you're being honest because seriously, what's to be gained by a scum claiming they were stolen from?
