We didn't deserve to win that. Really. Archer and Revan don't know how to get their own information right, and two of our kills were pure luck through dayvig.

And I was totally damn useless this game. sleep.gif Getting Daganev wrongly lynched twice would've been funny as hell.

So what the hell was up with Daganev's orb? And Bali, what made you hallucinate that some of these things were good ideas? "Surprise, have some contrived death!"
Daganev2008-07-30 14:50:19
Ok, I am still confused what happened to me. Why was I rezzed and why did I get the black shadowy thing?

Also, by the time I got the contraption, it was actually an investigate ability, not a one time protect. Sad I never got to use it tongue.gif
Daganev2008-07-30 14:53:13
Also, what was my engeineering skill good for? doesn't look like you had a challenge for it.

I was enjoying watching you follow my trail of breadcrumbs to him... twice... happy.gif

And I'm still somewhat annoyed that Visaeris got me, not through actual deductive reasoning, but because he ignored my post complaining about his bloody cursed artifact. *prod Visaeris*

I was going to investigate you that night.

It was getting frustrating because each person I thought I would investigate, ended up getting killed! First you, then Requim, then thul.

Yay for automatic investigative redirection. happy.gif

Given the odds of it showing Req, you'd have most likely shown me as some vanilla townie. Which is what I was planning to claim, anyways (hence why the "cursed orb" just got mutterings of discontent, rather than "OMG YOU BLOCKED MY ACTIVE SKILLS YOU asterisk"). tongue.gif

Was so not expecting to get day-gibbed.
Arix2008-07-30 19:35:32
And I didn't want to roleclaim until at least day 3 or 4, because I wanted to hopefully have useful info first. Especially since I was an investigator, and a thief, and an Arix, which were all things that made me a perfect lynch/nightkill target

The game was more of a "meta-mafia" than a true mafia game. If you look at the game on those terms, you should be able to get over how "complicated" it was.

1. Ok the mystery box was kinda cruel and unusual. I admit. SURPRISE INSTANT DEATH LOL was kinda fucked up. I'm a sadist sometimes.

2. Like Thul said, town really shouldn't have won. Lots of bad play going on. I'm was extremely disappointed in the mafia's lurkiness. Lorick is like LurkMasterFlex and Xenthos, while not as bad, is pretty much wearing a t-shirt saying hey, look at me, I'm lurky and shadowy, plz lynch or dayvig! And requiem...ugh...I'm glad he at least tried to go for leader. He kinda foibled his initial claim though.

3. Daganev I never built in a challenge for your challenge ability. Same goes for Thul, although I was thinking I could integrate it somehow into the starvation challenge (which you guys never saw).

4. What was up with Daganev's orb is that out of the 4 random possibilities, he got the "nothing at all" effect.

5. Arix I did include a flavor investigation on Daganev. I included something to the effect of "he's a decent sort of dwarf" - nothing at all that could be construed as him being suspicious. I dont understand your confusion there.

I'm thinking of making a mafia-quest pt2. Not for a long time though. I was pretty much using you guys as a "testing game" to see what modifications I should make before I bring the game over to mafiascum.net. Any glaring flaws? Any ideas to make it better?
Arix2008-07-30 23:23:26
My confusion was that when I investigated, I was supposed to see equipment and such. When I saw none of that plus a quote saying 'he seems like a normal dwarf, nothing strange here', that set off alarm bells and I got the impression that it was a fakeout, as if he were a scum with an innocent if investigated power
Lorick2008-07-31 00:37:12
Wait, you create a game in which it is to the advantage of the mafia _not_ to kill people but rather just try and live and you complain they don't have a lot to say? I'm sorry if BaLi feels the system is the correct format for a mafia game, but the entire set up was such that it encouraged people to lay low, especially when considering my role of the mafia itself got weaker when voted for. Not to say I didn't participate in discussions, I was one of the more vocal posters in count...

I don't know, it has issues. Slow, forces early roleclaims, and has a strong sense of sheer randomness that makes you feel that it doesn't really matter what you say or what you do, it all comes down to a die roll in the end. Not that this is particularly bad when used in a moderate fashion, but for an overall mechanic it seems.. Eh, less than ideal. I don't know, maybe you guys enjoyed it, but I know most of the mafia sat around for days going "So, how many charges? Ah, well, maybe we can... Hmm, sort of pointless to kill people... Erm... Nightkill immunity?"
Valestrix2008-07-31 00:41:12
Maybe he should make it the opposite and give one of the mafia members more power if they get voted for but not lynched wink.gif

Muhaha
Xenthos2008-07-31 00:41:34
Hey, I was having fun making plans around how to use my pardon to incriminate townies. happy.gif

(And I did nominate Arix as the night-kill target the night before he went public with a roleclaim, but oh well. Othero wasn't a bad hit either! If Arix had gone down instead of being able to give up Lorick's ID, though...)
Lorick2008-07-31 00:44:10
Yeah, and we talked about it. It was an extremely powerful power, the pardon. It was what was going to win us the game, not me killing people.
Lorick2008-07-31 00:45:24
To be honest, you should of been the one that would of won that. Redirect when investigated, wait tilll near the last days, force night.

((I wanted to off Arix first, but I had been eyeing him for being bluntly the thief, and I wasn't certain about the investigate ability. So, I wanted to off one person inbetween. Just so happened he revealed before I went for him.))

Yeah, that was pretty much the plan until Arix went public with your items.

(Still want Arix to have died the night before, though!)
Valestrix2008-07-31 00:47:23
Might have been better to incriminate Visaeris with it too. Even on the chance it hadn't gotten him killed, it might have made him look bad, as well as the others he claimed were good.

I was only able to use it on people who had at least 1 vote, and, well... nobody was voting for Visaeris. Because it was pointless (he was unlynchable).
Lorick2008-07-31 00:48:34
I mean, my plan was just to charge up as a buffer for nightkill immunity, and start essence draining at 6.
Valestrix2008-07-31 00:48:45
Ah I see, thats too bad.

Heh, once the Serial-Killer went down and there were no other night kills, I lost the interest in aiming for my nightkill immunity. Pardons had a lot more potential for us at that point.
