I’m not sure if I’ll see another story told this well in my lifetime.

The visual symbolism is stunning.

When Batman and Gordon stand around the fallen DA Harvey Dent, notice how Harvey’s pose is that of Christ taken down off the cross.

In Batman’s last scene with the Joker, the Joker dangles upside down on one foot. Not only does this symbolize his inverted anarchic worldview, but it also echo’s the Tarot’s image of the fool, hanging from one foot.

Go see it.

Discuss.

Best movie evar. I didn't really have a reaction when I heard Ledger had died, but after seeing that movie and starting to think(comparing it to his previous ones) that he may be the best actor I've ever seen, I'm incredibly sad that I won't get to see another performance.
Arix2008-07-20 02:02:58
It wasn't the canon Joker, but it was still a damn good Joker

So much hype... Almost turns me away. I just know I'm gonna be disappointed.

I can't wait to go see it. I really liked Heath Ledger, and thought he was a great actor. I think it will be a little hard to watch, rather like when Brandon Lee died during the making of the Crow. I've heard that Ledger will be oscar nominated for best supporting actor already for his role. We are going to see it tomorrow, so I will reserve my opinions for then.

I must say though, Christian Bale is teh hawt.

I've been stalling about seeing this movie, for a few reasons.

One, I loved Heath Ledger as an actor, and I know I'll be hugely depressed by the movie.

Two, I grew up with the original Batman movies. I just don't know if I can envision another Joker who isn't Jack Nicholson.

Though I fear I will give in to temptation soon enough... biggrin.gif

Jack was awesome, but his role was psychotic and silly.

Ledger is psychotic and brilliant.

Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was the best thing about the movie.

And it was a fantastic movie.

What he said. The movie definitely warrants the hype. It's not omg the best movie evar!!!!, but it is a very, very good movie as long as you aren't a stickler about Batman canon. Go into the theatre expecting a fair bit of reimagining.

Hm, if I could only see one film between this and Wall-E, which should I go for?

wtf.gif Shiri, first of all if you only have that much money to spend... I'll give you the $10. And I'd pick this one. It is worth the money and you have the added bonus of not having your friends ruin it for you.

It's more about only having the one weekend for the family to go see it, heh, there's no cinema in my town so we have to take an annoying drive to Lincoln.
Kaalak2008-07-20 06:44:43
Shiri. I like you. You seem like a nice dude.

However let me explain this to you. You are choosing between a robot love story with 'Hello Dolly' .... and the Mona Lisa of Movies (ok more like Hieronymus Bosch's work but whatever).

I'll enjoy your review. content.gif

Amazing. I don't think there's much else to say. Simply.... amazing

It's true. Once I told the rarely-heard-from comicbook nerd part of my brain to shut the censor.gif up and watch the goddamn movie it was great.

Also, what the hell is Shiri going to do with ten dollars?

I loved the Joker's "Wanna know how I got these scars?" speeches, that was just absolutely thrilling. I also loved his "magic trick".

Awesome movie indeed.
Arix2008-07-20 06:57:52
yeah, that part was great

wtf.gif Have you read the killing joke? Arkham Asylum? That's the cool canon Joke and Nolan got heavily influenced on it for this film.

Arkham Asylum has also my favorite Joker's joke

"Well...this guy goes into the hospital, okay?...His wife's just had a baby and he can't wait to see them both. So he meets the doctor and says, 'Oh, doc, I've been so worried. How are they?' And the doctor smiles and says, 'They're fine. Just fine. Your wife delivered a healthy baby boy and they're both in tip-top form.....You're one lucky guy' So the guy rushed into the maternity ward with his flowers. But its empty. His wife's bed's empty. 'Doc?' he says and he turns around and the doctor and the nurses wave their arms and scream in his face...
'APRIL FOOL! YOU'RE WIFE'S DEAD AND THE BABY'S A SPASTIC!' Get it?"

All of this is done while he shoots someone in the head

On the whole deal of the Tarot card.

It's the hanged man you are looking for. That changes nothing, since the hanged man represents either self sacrifice or letting things go.

It meshes well with the chaotic and anarchic interpretation of Joker on this film. I personally loved it when he burned the pile of money, giving a nod to Graham Greene.
Arix2008-07-20 08:01:21
I meant that the Dark Knight Joker was just a psycho wearing makeup, whereas the canon Joker fell into chemicals and got all crazified
