Yeah I meant 'hangedman' but wrote 'fool.' Thanks for catching that.

I've been stalling about seeing this movie, for a few reasons.
One, I loved Heath Ledger as an actor, and I know I'll be hugely depressed by the movie.
Two, I grew up with the original Batman movies. I just don't know if I can envision another Joker who isn't Jack Nicholson.
Though I fear I will give in to temptation soon enough...

Excuse me... The ORIGINAL Batman movies did NOT have Jack Nicholson as the Joker, They had Cesar Romero. I highly suggest you go rent this film, to see the best version of batman ever made. (assuming you want to laugh)
the real original batman

I liked the first three non-60's batman movies because they had my three favorite villains in the same order I put them in on my list
Daganev2008-07-20 08:50:58
Sorry, for the derail, but the 1966 batman is so good, it needs to be shared, with quotes like this, how can you go wrong?
Commissioner Gordon: It could be any one of them... But which one? Which ones?
Batman: Pretty *fishy* what happened to me on that ladder...
Commissioner Gordon: You mean where there's a fish there could be a penguin?
Robin: But wait! It happened at sea... Sea. C for Catwoman!
Batman: Yet, an exploding shark *was* pulling my leg...
Commissioner Gordon: The Joker!
Chief O'Hara: All adds up to a sinister riddle... Riddle-R. Riddler!
Commissioner Gordon: A thought strikes me... So dreadful I scarcely dare give it utterance...
Batman: The four of them... Their forces combined...
Robin: Holy nightmare!
Commissioner Gordon: Penguin, Joker, Riddler... and Catwoman, too! The sum of the angles of that rectangle is too monstrous to contemplate!
Batman: We've been given the plainest warning. They're working together to take over...
Chief O'Hara: Take over *what*, Batman? Gotham City?
Batman: Any *two* of them would try that!
Commissioner Gordon: The whole country?
Batman: If it were three of them, I would say yes, but *four*? Their minimum objective must be... the *entire* world.
or the clasic...
Vice Admiral Fangschliester: - to some chap named "P. N. Guin".
Batman: P. N. Guin...
Robin: Penguin!
Or some great lines from the Joker:
Joker: Have you heard this one? It'll KILL you, Batman!
Commissioner Gordon: It could be any one of them... But which one? Which ones?
Batman: Pretty *fishy* what happened to me on that ladder...

Have you read the killing joke? Arkham Asylum? That's the cool canon Joke and Nolan got heavily influenced on it for this film.
I heard way way back when Heath Ledger was cast that Nolan gave him the killing joke to prepare him for the role.

Just watched it, the movie was pretty kickass. Better than I expected, but the whole burned Harvey Dent/ Two-face pissed me off, "Batman and Robin" and I think the comic books had the real way, that he was burned with acid. Can anyone enlighten me on this, please?

First off, Shaddus, Two Face did get burnt during a trial. The criminal had a vial/bottle of acid and threw it at Harvey Dent, causing his face to burn.
Nextly, the Hanged Man tarot is surely not the only thing you could think of. While it is easy to think of it, since Tarot Cards are cards, and Joker had a Joker card, the connection is immediate. Also, though, you should think of Odin, who sacrificed one of his eye and hung upside down from Yggdrasil for nine days and nights in order to obtain the runes, which gave him wisdom to have power within and even over all nine worlds.
That being said, I feel that the older movies are based off of the TV Show (not the cartoon from the 90's, obviously!), while these movies are based moreso off of the comic books.
They should have killed off Joker instead so that they don't have to find a next one for the next movie.
I wonder, if there is a next movie, if it'll feature Catwoman, Penguin, or the Riddler? Ivy was pretty neat also, as was Harley Quinn.
With that annoying out of the way, should be easy to add in one of the ladies!
Anyway, completely loved the movie.
As for Shiri's question, since I saw both...
1) Wall-E is emotional, cute, touching, and makes you think
2) The Dark Knight is bright, flashy, dramatic, funny (Joker!!!), exciting, and blows you away
Based on this, you could probably figure out which you'd rather see, I think. :3 I, personally, saw Wall-E first. Two times in total, before the Dark Knight.
Ardmore2008-07-21 00:26:58
I'd definitely see Wall-E instead. Family is more important!

I was talking to a friend about this and she pointed out that during the scene with Batman asking Lucius about his new suit whether or not it'd protect against dogs. Lucius' reply, if you'll remember, was "No, but it'll protect against cats!" So maybe we're reading into it too much, but it'd be cool if she was in the next movie.

What he said. The movie definitely warrants the hype. It's not omg the best movie evar!!!!, but it is a very, very good movie as long as you aren't a stickler about Batman canon. Go into the theatre expecting a fair bit of reimagining.
its deff a reimagining in a bunch of places, but i liked it. Thats what i love about comic's, their like modern folk lore, which could change slightly according to the person telling it. Even in the various batman comics their are contradictions to the origins of Joker . But i liked this reimagining. Simply awesome movie
and to the visual aspects that started the subject i didnt notice it the first time but the second time i'll pay attention to the little things. I enjoy looking for the rhetoric myself, as well. And its my favorite version of Joker.
Jigan2008-07-21 03:34:39
His magic trick was awesome. As was the potato peeler. This Joker, while not strictly canon, is my favourite Joker. I remember the Joker from the 90's cartoons, with the pointed face and the guns that had the flags. He's nice for silly roles, but this one fit the bill for the movie. I'm really sad Ledger died though. This Joker was insanely good from my view. He wasn't some madcap "Hehe, this looks like fun" screwball, he appeared to me what Jigan should half be. Brilliant, seeing how things really connect, and willing to burn money to make a point. I will indeed buy this movie when it comes out.
Now I gots inspiration.

I hope they don't cast Halle Berry.

Awesome movie... though Wall-E is just as good, but for different reasons.
Daganev2008-07-21 20:49:59
Is wall e a good movie because its enjoyable? Or do people like it because it says "Yay envoromentalism! Boo evil humans!"?
Bhiele2008-07-21 21:52:22
I thought it rocked, though it was pretty hard to watch Heath Ledger talking about death as the Joker, I won't give away anything about the scene but when you see it you'll understand. The best part was the magic trick the Joker did with the pencil. I would love to make a pencil disappear that way...

Because it's enjoyable.
Wall-E isn't about environmentalism. Anyone drawing that conclusion from the movie either never saw the movie and only read a synopsis, or went into the movie determined to find a message about environmentalism. It is most certainly not "boo evil humans" either. Rather, it's more the opposite.
If you want more detail, we can take it to PMs. This is a thread about The Dark Knight, so we should stick to that.
Moving on...
I was also impressed by all the little references stuffed into the The Dark Knight. Cicero avenue? Mmm.
My favorite part was where Joker just burned his money. The scar stories and jokes are too difficult to choose between after that.
Shaddus2008-07-21 22:33:39
Joker - "Don't worry, I'm only burning my half"
Heh, and the pencil was frigging awesome!
I think my favorite part was when the Joker bounced out of the hospital with his nurse uniform on, and he was blowing up the hospital, and his remote didn't work. He was like, WTF. Prodded it a few times, and it worked
Dunno, I just thought that was funny. Alright, back to the grind.

oooh i just remembered
the terrorist like videos Joker does are so eery it seemed like it was actually happening, creeped me out and made me feel really bad for the people he'd torture. But added a really cool realism to it!

My neighbors brought their five and seven year olds to see this today.
They came home early. Their five year old kept saying, "Don't let Joker get me don't let Joker get me don't let him get me..." over and over.
Word to the "Wise" : It's PG13 for a reason.
