You know, when I started playing online text games, we didn't have artifacts! And then came this game, Achaea, and they had artifacts - but nothing was none of this fancy rune schmancy nancy stuff!

Well, I have to agree that the rune-idea is a very good one, and would apply pretty well to these. Maybe make them ring/rune combos! *attach RingRune to ring* Or a necklace with a ring hanging off of it!

When I started playing text games we didn't have any of this "code" stuff. We had D&D on Irc.

Back in my day, mudding involved dirt.

Watch that torus price climb though.

It wouldn't surpise me if it went for 5000 or higher

I would. It might push 4k, but that's about it.

What, you WOULDN'T spend $1000 on a cool-looking item made out of words?
Acrune2008-08-04 02:10:01
Nope, anyone who pays more then $987 is a complete fool

...or something where it's an intentional limiting factor that you can't wear two different pairs of boots so you can't have the effects of both of two artifacts at the same time.

Actually, the artifacts might bypass the check of what you're already wearing. I can wear normal boots with my winged sandals. My artifact rings, on the other hand, do count... unfortunately.

Hey, admins, a little help here? smile.gif

ps: will we ever have the ability to bid on items for others?

I've been wondering about that too... Or just, that we are allowed to "gift" the items after the won auction to someone else.

PS: I'm all for making the ring auction items, either acting as rings (ie enchantable) or changing them to runes.

PPS: I don't suppose the Brooch of the Tempest could be made enchantable or changed to a rune either? Pretty please? pray.gif

You should have made the Talnaran ring "a plain ring of gold with firey (fiery?) markings."

Edit: Actually, never mind.

I went on Achaea to buy that unlimited health vial but it's... more than my 450 credits can afford. crying.gif
Damn it!

And back to the topic
Damn I'm so getting me a magic carpet! That's just awesome.

And bard song rune - we all know I'll go back to bard sooner or later.

I never understand the rational of things like this. All such a vial does is save you gold and some minor hassle. I have no idea what the market is in achaea these days but at like 5k a credit, 450 credits buys you more health vials than you could ever need.

I guess the premium price is just for bragging rights? That and people might not have anything else to spend credits on?

The same argument goes for most economic artifacts though, their price usually means you do not see a payoff for like 2+ RL years. It takes some really long term planning to justify that.

I just compare it to something like a custom pose, or a instant escape room no one else can reach, or any number of other things that actually are unique and have nothing to do with saving gold and shake my head.

Just as a note, the artifact health vials here went for 940 or so (I believe), and credits at that time were worth about 4000 gold each. Or about 940,000 sips/applications (if you're refilling from kegs). Not completely beyond reason if you play for a long, long time, but the real bonus is the fact that you will never run out in the middle of combat or hunting.
Acrune2008-08-04 23:03:10
Nah, the real bonus is that when your system crashes and spams health, you can just roll with it tongue.gif
