I suck at finding music, or at least I suck at finding music and downloading it. Period. I can find it if I want to though. I have very little patience and very little initiative. I'm calling upon my cohorts here to tell me what to listen to and download! I need more music, and I've sort of hit a music block, if that's a word.

I'll listen to anything if it's good. Rap, R & B, Country (sometimes), Trance, Techno, Rock (alot), Hip Hop, etc, etc, whatever.

This isn't a "What You're Listening To" Thread. This is a "Give me all the stuff you like listening to, your favourites, etc." and a Music Suggestions thread.

Say whatever comes to mind, I'll try to get everything. No matter how obvious or obscure, there's a good chance I don't have it and I want it.

I need more.

Ps. Names of the songs at least please or just the group/Artist.

A few of my favorites in no order... some of these should really be things everyone has heard but you said include obvious ones too, so:
R.E.M. - alternative rock - in particular get the album "Automatic for the People" and the song "Losing My Religion"
Pearl Jam - hard alternative rock/grunge - get "Ten"
Counting Crows - rock - get "August and Everything After"
Bloc Party - indie rock (sort of) - get "Silent Alarm"
Nirvana - grunge - get "Nevermind"
Live - alternative rock - get "Throwing Copper"
Led Zeppelin - classic rock
Red Hot Chili Peppers - alternative rock
Rush - prog rock
Finger Eleven - modern alternative
Joanna Newsom - she's um, different, and doesn't really fall under any genre. try to keep an open mind while listening and she will grow on you, I promise - get "Ys"
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - experimental instrumental group, very atmospheric - get "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven"
Santana - latin rock
Rage Against the Machine - rap/rock/metal - get "Rage Against the Machine"
Foo Fighters - rock

Amon Amarth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWW-oi_ukgU
I have to thank Ruthy for that one. Metal that makes you 'splode.

Paul van Dyk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAioW8ls8sA
Trance/house, one of the best DJs in the world.

Pendulum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMndQ9nDo-Y
Bass/drums, good beats (obviously, heh.)

Apocalyptica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdnD8660_W0
<3. That's all. They also have heavier songs, if you prefer that.

And agree with the Godspeed You! Black Emperor suggestion.

Well, if you haven't listened to these artists, I invite you to do so. They are really some of my favorite (English) singers!

Ozzy. Alanis Morissette. Sade.

Yay, I love music!

I have two main types of music I like, that which can be categorized into more superficial, up-beat and often dancy:

M.I.A., Santogold (a strange mix of rap, rock, reggae, electronic, but amazing)

LCD Soundsystem, Crystal Castles, Digitalism, Justice, Glass Candy, Metronomy, Daft Punk, The Knife (mostly electronic)

New Young Pony Club, Wolf Parade, Klaxons, Foals, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (very indie), Muse, White Rabbits, Asobi Seksu, Ratatat, The Bravery, Editors (mostly rock)

and, on the other hand, more calm and often more meaningful in lyrics and more spiritual in instrumentals:

Joanna Newsom (amazing), The Watson Twins, Destroyer, Beirut, Sufjan Stevens, Vashti Bunyan, Yann Tiersen (especially!), Cat Power, Neutral Milk Hotel, Okkervil River, Jose Gonzalez, Sunset Rubdown, Feist (mostly folk-rock)

Telepopmusik, Chromatics, Imogen Heap, Animal Collective, Amon Tobin, Venetian Snares (mostly electronic)

They're all so wonderful! I think I could probably go on more or categorize them more too.

Edit: Ack, I forgot: Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, and the Album Leaf, who are all so amazing

I too love music. Here are some clickables for you. I'm not very good at naming genres, though, so forgive me if something's off!

Ceann: Funny songs, good portion are about drinking in some manner.
http://www.myspace.com/ceannmusic

Tilly and the Wall: Indie. Instead of drums, they use a tap-dancer.
http://www.myspace.com/officialtillyandthewall

Scouting for Girls: Indie/Acoustic/Pop, according to the heading on this page
http://www.myspace.com/scoutingforgirls

Frou Frou: They define themselves as Ambient/Indie/Pop, whatever that means.
http://www.myspace.com/froufrou

The Cruxshadows: They define themselves as New Wave/Electronica/Gothic. Myspace makes defining genres easy!
http://www.myspace.com/cruxshadows

I love Cowboy Bebop music in general. Here are some samples of music, ranging from pop-rock to blues-ish/jazz:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S_0ojO3bGc (No Reply)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbUdQtj-6uo (Don't Bother None - I absolutely love the guitar here, and after the fancy guitar it does get to words)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBao55HG9f0 (Tank! - It's the opening song. This video's a little quiet so you'll need to turn it up some. They've also got an extended, full version of the song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqSRhblejy8 (Odd Ones - I'm not quite sure what's up with the video, but yeah!)

Professional Pirate. I know it's from the Muppets, and that's not everyone's cup of tea, but this song is good, I promise!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5Hvt2ijkwk

The Eagles. Good old rock.
http://www.myspace.com/eaglesmusic
If you haven't heard it ever (I'd be surprised if you haven't), my favorite from them is Hotel California.

Vampire Weekend: Myspace's heading says Punk/New Wave/Classical, but I'm skeptical.
http://www.myspace.com/vampireweekend (There's some language in like, one of the songs on that site, for those terribly sensitive to this sort of thing.)

The Hush Sound: I love the female singer, but the male gets on my nerves in a lot of his songs, personally. The only one he sings in that I really, really enjoy is We Intertwined.
http://www.myspace.com/thehushsound

OK Go: Rock. Fun rock. Look up some of their music videos on Youtube, particularly for Invincible, Here We Go Again, and A Million Ways.
http://www.myspace.com/okgo

Bond: Violins, a cello, a beat, electrica-ish, good music. Here's one of their songs:

Wow... I'm getting lots of good stuff from this!

May I suggest the Dresden Dolls? They are self-styled "Brechtian punk cabaret" and quite awesome.

I'll think of more and editted more bands into this post, so check back:

Rock-related:

10 Years: Harder rock, just released a new album which is good but suggest looking at The Autumn Effect

the Mars Volta: I like experimental sounds, look up De-Loused in the Comatorium.

Tool: Some more progressive rock, check out 10,000 Days and Lateralus.

Radiohead: Their new album (which was free) In Rainbows was really good, but check out Ok Computer and Kid A.

Cake: Can never go wrong with Cake. Check out Pressure Chief and Fashion Nugget.

Slightly Stoopid: They just released some of their best stuff, Chronocitis if you are into reggae-dub music.

Jam Bands: Some of my favorite Jam-band bands.

Widespread Panic

Grateful Dead: Go check out any live shows, best shows are probably in the late 70s.

Yonder Mountain String Band

.moe

String Cheese Incident

Rap:

Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Tupac, Tech n9ne, Bone Thugz n Harmony, Nappy Roots for good ol gangster rap.

Sage Francis and Atmosphere is some good jazzy rap.

Ambient music:

Ashai and I share a lot of the same tastes, I highly recommend looking up Animal Collective (and Grizzly Bears side projects), Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky and The Album Leaf.

Editted:

Also check out Tortoise.

The Company, The Comfort, The Grave
Kenny Gibler

The Number 12 Looks like You - progmetal/post-hardcore/spaz. shredtastic and a little noisy.

I used to like all of Bright Eyes' music, but once they put out Cassadaga, I fell in love with that album and can barely listen to their other songs (besides Lover I Don't Have to Love, First Day of my Life, and Bowl of Oranges, as those three got me turned on to Bright Eyes in the first place).

From the Cassadaga album:

Hm, I've got Coal Chamber in the CD changer in my truck right now, they're pretty good. Usually if I'm at home, whatever Pandora plays I like to listen to though it varies on my mood on what it is I'm listening to either hip-hop or rock/metal. 50 cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Three 6 Mafia, etc. On the rock side.. Audioslave, Pantera, Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Ill Nino, Spineshank, Rage Against the Machine, Slayer, Metallica, etc. I've also got a station that plays older rock music too.. like Eagles, Deep Purple, Hendrix, etc.
