Help Files for Great Houses

Just as the title says, help files for Great Houses. If orgs have help files and clans have a sort of a help file, why not Great Houses?

EG:

CODE
4.11.4.1 THE GREAT HOUSE OF DEKOVEN

                     Family Head: Raflein
                   Family Patron: Eventru
Family Domain: The Righteous Principality of New Celest
                    Bannerhouses: Luminare

Family in Realm: Arin, Saaga, Crystian

The Dekoven Family links highly with the city of New Celest. Blah blah blah
Blah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah
blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah
blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blah
Blah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah

Blah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah
blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah
blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blah
Blah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah

Blah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blahBlah
blah blahBlah blah blahBlah blah blah.

I know the info is available in FAMILY TREE but this just allows the family to give a bit of history to everybody.

Also, are we going to get family ranks? Gives other people other than Family Heads certain privs.
Shiri2008-08-06 06:24:23
Just use the clan. The families other than d'murani would just be describing the members anyway, and that changes all the time, so making it an actual helpfile wouldn't work.
Arin2008-08-06 10:01:43
That just encourages people to buy clans rather RP into a Great House. The Help File would change just like an Org helpfile. So if someone goes, well, it'd still be peachy.
Shiri2008-08-06 10:22:04
What? You can't appoint a position or whatever so it wouldn't at all be like an org helpfile. An org has admin-defined traits, mobs, guilds, and all other kinds of things you can put in there, and then it has like Regent: Kinson, which is a field that can change as members are reelected. A family can have no such thing because it's just not simple enough to. The only defining trait of a family is its members, and as new ones are inducted, go inactive or just change guilds this changes all the time. Nothing static is worth writing about as far as a family is concerned, unless they all come up with a backstory and get it admin-approved or something. All you would have is "Gregori is the head of the Mes'ards, he's been between Moondancers and Hartstone and Shofangi a few times, Regent a couple times..." etc. etc. which can all easily go in a clanhelp.

Also, all greathouses and most smaller houses have clans. That's just how it works. It's not like "encouraging people to have clans" is a bad thing, lets the ones that can't find 50 members get on with it.

I like this idea, but I agree that the problem would be what would go on the helpfile.

As Shiri has said, families with admin-approved histories would obviously be at a great advantage here: the Inalai or d'Murani have ancient backstories which encompass some of the great events in the histories. Perhaps some of the Great Houses without this admin-approved story might consider inventing their own and submitting it? Either way, I disagree that houses without history will have nothing to say. It could be as simple as: Family A was founded by B and C in Year blah CE; notable members include etc; Family A is based in Org D and is primarily composed of Igasho; the family motto is E and its symbol is an F argent on a platter of three Gs. That in itself could be enough of a peg to hang a family identity which, if embryonic, would flourish, and if well developed could develop further.

We tried this actually! We have yet to hear back about it yet but it's only been a few weeks.

It's one of those things where the wheels of administrative bureaucracy turn very slowly. A polite nag might help it along.

I assumed it was simply delayed for more important things, but you're right, never can tell if it's got delayed or simply stuck permanently. I'll have another go.

Would a capslocked message full of censor.gif work? suspicious.gif

Probably not. tongue.gif

*scribbles more "history"*

I guess it would be another command the family head has to edit the family history. I mean the Guild Admin to change the Guild Help scroll anytime he/she wants. If it's something like "The Dekovens are descended from a higher order of divinity" would mean the Family Head gets a polite message by the Admins and a slap in the face.

It just gives Great Houses easier access by people when they don't have to find what clans the family own - I know Dekovens own a few but just go HELP DEKOVEN or HELP MES'ARD or HELP TALNARA.

As I said at the bottom of my original post, would family get some kind of family rank or position which I would love people to suggest something.

I'm sorry to bring this thread up, but I have a small question. Would the admin be willing to look at and approve of a small families history if written and if so, where would it be sent to? huh.gif
Aison2008-08-08 08:09:58
I'd try the god nearest you (Order god, city/guild patron). Approach them ICly and just ask if they'd read it.

Probably best to see if it's possible for greathouses, then if it is see about it for small houses...you'd probably want to at least be a banner house though, otherwise they'd have to do hundreds of them and it wouldn't fit.

Ah, I know. I'm just having fun either way, but would be neat!

No. Most family clans are OOC, and, for example, I quit the d'Murani clan because I felt like it was often a substitute for IC communication and interaction. So, I would much prefer to have things more focused on the actual IC organization, just for the sake of simplicity.

What "most family clans are OOC"? No they're not. A couple of 'em are. Anyway, the point is that this is impractical to have something that wouldn't just be a clan file updated by the house leader...and if the house leader also has the clan OOC, well, whatever? Does that matter anyway?

EDIT: I guess I can see where you're coming from though.
Ashai2008-08-09 15:43:39
My point is just that, at least in the case of d'Murani, not everyone is in the 'family clan', or wants to affiliate with it.
Gwylifar2008-08-09 19:17:43
It'd be nice for great families to not need a clan, but that ship sailed four years ago.
Arin2008-08-10 21:30:11
I agree with Ashai... people should be able to get into Great Houses or Bannerhouses without having to be part of the family clan. Besides I know the Dekoven Family Clan includes at least two other families.

It would be nice for a novice/newbie/someone considering to join a house to just go "Ok, I'm in Celest. At the moment the only Great house is Dekoven so let's see... HELP DEKOVEN... *reads*... what a great family! There's some people online right now! Let's have a chat with them.... ooer looks like Meliana and Raflein mated like rabbits and they made me too!... *considers* JOINS FAMILY"
