You should have seen the bitchfit the media pitched over here when they realised Australia was marching out third last.
I gotta admit I don't know how they decide to organize the order. Do you know? I'd thought it was alphabetical?
Completely unrelated, but the Morgan Freeman Visa commericals about the Olympics always make me tear up.
OMG... the whole type-block thing was people! I thought it had to be hydrolics.
(I added the spoiler thingie so the effect doesn't get messed up for anyone seeing it later)Shayle2008-08-09 00:37:44

Yeah, they have a really beautiful culture. Did I ever mention I'm 1/4 Chinese?
Daganev2008-08-09 00:40:31
Anyone know where us folk who don't have televisions can watch this stuff?
Unknown2008-08-09 00:44:31
I'm sure you could find it somewhere, try NBC.com and see if they're streaming it or something?
Daganev2008-08-09 00:45:11
the networks tend to not allow you to watch things if you arn't in the right time zone.

Go to a bar, or a restaurant with a bar!

Have you tried NBC.com? They're the network showing it, and they usually play their stuff online.

It was decided on how many characters are in the chinese translation of the countries name. Australia had 23, so we were right infront of something beginning with "Z", and dead last, China, being the host country.
Daganev2008-08-09 00:53:05
lol, not only will they not show me things, they won't show me things unless I verify that I'm a subscriber to a partner cable company. lol

Someone will prolly have it on YouTube by tomorrow. Doesn't help tonight, of course.
The commercials are really cool too! That dragon one for GE was just neat.
Shayle2008-08-09 00:59:18
You can also have a beer while you're at the bar, or even some boneless buffalo wings.

Close, but it was actually the number of strokes in the first character of the chinese translation of the countries' names. The second last country was Zambia.
Aramel2008-08-09 01:25:26
It was organised according to character strokes, which is the traditional way of doing it here. So Australia (the first character of which looks something like æ¾³ in Chinese, got put third-to-last.
I liked the dancers with the scrolls, that was really unexpected.

I really liked the Tai Chi (I prolly misspelled that) part, with the 2008 folks forming the perfect circles with no place markers or anything and all moving in near-perfect sync. Gorgeous.
