Why would Xavius do that? He's a cool dude unlike Xenthos

Actually, my first reaction was "Hey, Domoths are still stupid" but...I guess that's another thread.

Maybe because you had a slight issue with reading names.

Or he's moved on to the "laugh at people who still fall for it" stage.
(That's much easier since Xavius doesn't post much any more!)

I'm just going to speak up here. I was a pretty serious combatant on Imperian, and even dumped a good deal to become fairly tanky. However, my combat experiences here have consisted of hugely one-sided fights against warriors that not only do enough damage to almost kill me in 1 combo, but that combo includes a raze and involves either a stun or paralysis. I'm dead almost immediately after the stun resolves or before I even have focused out of the paralysis. The closest thing to an enjoyable combat experience I've had so far was against Ethelon, which I lost as well, and that's largely due to me manually curing through Aeon (though I admit I have a good bit to learn still about this game's afflictions before I consider myself anything close to a competent combatant here).
A good friend of mine who doesn't use the forums and has played for a long time is also quite frequently tantamount to instakilled as a level 82 elfen with good skills, robe, shield, etc. I enjoy the other aspects of the game, but if the entrance level to Lusternia combat is Demigod/Omnitrans/Defense Arties as anything other than a warrior, why the crap would I want to get involved in the combat environment at all? It's pretty frustrating to look at and know that the majority of people I'll ever fight are going to mow me down in a matter of seconds even if I'm focusing on pure defense/running.
I understand the warrior equations got tweaked recently. It seems like they still need some tweaking. I want to be able to jump into combat and have fun, not be mowed down as easily as a fink no matter what I do.

It's difficult to know the true "base" damage for any of these attacks with all the stats and possible buffs, but it seems to me that the boost offered by buffs (not counting racial weaknesses, afflictions, and what-not, perhaps) should be capped at about 50% of the base damage. If your attack normally does 1,000, all the buffs in the game shouldn't make it go above 1,500. It's not the damage itself that needs a cap. It's the buffs, right?

I tend to disagree, as I think it should scale to max health a little better than that. The average "int race" at level 80 has 3.5-4.5k hp, hitting for 3k+ is against that is just absurd. Supposedly it scales, but from my testing about 4000 hp difference equals 100 hp scaling, which is kind of bad.

I agree with your suggestion, but I think both together may be good, actually. When it's possible to stack so many buffs for a single purpose (boosting damage), we should be picking and choosing which ones we want rather than working hard to acquire them all. Heh.

I agree, although Charune had mentioned that damage buffs do follow a sliding scale like other buffs, but I haven't seen that. When I grab a 10%, my damage goes up by 10%. A combination of the two would be nice.

Well, just like weighted stats, the scaling doesn't kick in right away. If you get a few buffs that all give 10%, you'll see diminishing returns, though how much is a little uncertain.

To be honest, what's really sad (and typical?) is that this thread is still going and that there's no indication admin-wise that they have any intention of changing warriors or this sort of insta-kill-damage.

We've tested it about three times, trying to even out what warriors do to plate, what warriors do to cloth, and the mix of the two with the new aggressive stance. It hasn't been a trivial ride by any means.
Moiraine2008-08-19 22:24:08
It seems like it would be a pretty simple fix, honestly. After all the damage calculations are done, check.
IF targethealth>1000 and crazydamage>(targethealth/3)
THEN nerf crazydamage
IF targethealth>1000 and crazydamage>(targethealth/3)

I did. I really wish there was a limit to how many domoth blessings you could stack. I say, let there be a max of one blessing per race, two blessings per guild, and four per commune. *sagenod me*

Puissanced hit, but, once again, still shouldn't take 97% health in the first round.
