Me, personally: It's a game, go for it. It'd expand the view of Lusternia and perhaps allow a whole new culture of people, and it would give another facet to RPing.

Me, my character: Ew, no! That's just icky! Yuck yuck yuck.

We have spoken. quickexit.gif

Being able to chose haermophodite as a Gender before Single Parent Adoption!

Or Asexual at least.

Well if it floats your boat...

I say if you want to play the polygamy card you don't ever get married (unless there's a dowry involved), and just muck around with who you like. But be sure to stay honest with all the girls. biggrin.gif

only polygamy sort of requires you to be married to be able to do it. confused.gif

In all seriousness, it makes very little sense that single-parents are not allowed. It's even called adoption and not birth! Synl could have easily boinked someone before entering the Portal, with his daughter eventually deciding to enter the Portal, too, but his daughter's mother never doing so and Synl not wanting to find her again because nobody wants to hang out with the pre-Portalers, as chances are high she'd just respawn to a random location in the middle of sex. Thus, he managed to find his daughter and wants to adopt her but can't because of lame mechanics.

I thought they made it pretty clear that hte family rules are based on not allowing people to just expand thier family exponetially...

no?

Wait, I'm not following. I might be missing your point entirely, but if each generation has 3 kids, after a few generations, wouldn't that amount to exponential growth?

Also, this could also solve the problem of having to divorce an inactive spouse to grow the family (think that was in another thread), and it could lead to Gods and Goddesses that refuse to support polygamous (if thats the word) relationships.
Daganev2008-08-25 04:37:45
well, it would sort of work like this.
right now, 2 people have to find other people who are atleast 13 years younger then them. then each of those people have to find another person, and then find people who are 13 younger than them.

This means, that to get a house of 25 people, you need a minimum of 50(at 24 months each child) + 13 years, so 63 years between starting your family and having a large one.

If you could be married to more than one person, and each person could adopt (or be married to) another person, then you could have a family of 50 in 10 IG years. (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, with 2 years between each doubling)

This is a difference between 2.12 RL years for a great family, and 4 RL months for a great family.

(though maybe my math is off, and it might be quicker than 63 ig years, i.e. after the first 13 years, you'll have a doubled rate, so after your first 6 kids, you get another 12 after 12 years, and so on, but its still a lot more than 4 RL months)
Daganev2008-08-25 04:44:25
ok yeah my math is definitly wrong, but I'm too sick right now to do it properly.

It would just make the family tree a mess to keep track of. Just take one wife and RP mistresses.

suspicious.gif You have to get one chick convinced to marry you before you can start worrying about finding a couple more for your harem, Bael. I am dying to know who you have in mind to propose this to. evil.gif

I think it would be an interesting twist in familial lines if it was ever coded in. Until then, you could just pretend!

Being able to choose Asexual in registration before ingame! (Or just Other, so it includes everybody.)
Arix2008-08-25 11:52:13
why would you WANT more than one wife?

Because family trees aren't enough of a convoluted mess. I think we'd need a client with three-dimension capability to properly list everyone's half-cousuncles.
