I am going to get lynched for this, but it's an idea...
When raiding enemy forest and chopping down trees, have salt in hand, scatter, and nothing will grow in that room for a certain period of time. This includes herbs and trees.
I thought I had something with sulfur, but not really

Sulfur is actually more toxic than salt, I think.
Moiraine2008-09-03 10:17:40
Maybe, but I don't think large amounts would destroy life as salt does.
I would really like to see salt and sulfur have some kind of use. There's ever so much of it in my rift and, I'm sure, in the rifts of other jewelers.

salt sulfur
Yes, some use please.

It has a use. Needed for alchemy potions: a shield/void that uses balance instead of eq (of course, most people without lunge/raze have faster eq than bal, but there's the odd faeling runist I guess.)
Oh, also with salt you can shield allies.

Salt is also used for Astrology Zodiac circles
Moiraine2008-09-03 11:26:32
How about some use for the people that keep making salt/sulfur? Umm...
Oo ooh, cooks can poison food, lets have jewelers be able to incorporate sulfur into jewelry for that smelly smell. Negative social status, bonus begging status!

That could actually be pretty cool, and useful! I can see people liking that...
Anybody know how much tattered clothes decreases social status, how much it helps with begging, and if there's a cap to it? If we can have tattered clothes, why not something similar for jewelry?

Extra-salty food? Make them really, really, thirsty so they have to drink any liquids they're carrying.

What if you could throw salt over your shoulder and it increaases your luck minimally for the day. Luck being dodging.
Gwylifar2008-09-03 13:39:54
Interesting idea.
Salt, not colewort, should have been used to preserve food. That's what it's for!

Do this, please, Admins? At least on meat stuff!
Gwylifar2008-09-03 15:39:41
Historically salt is used in preserving all kinds of food, including vegetable, even fruit, not just meat. (Salt is key to the processes which convert them into products like jams and sauces, which were originally a means of saving them past their season.) You guys will probably think me a total dork (even more than you already do) for saying it, but Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky is a fascinating read. (Also available as an unabridged audiobook on Audible.com.) (No, I am not Mark Kurlansky and don't have stock in his publisher or anything.)

While we're at it.. what excuse for existence do spices have again? Or sugar for that matter.

You don't like cookies?
Arin2008-09-03 20:51:02
Coooooookies!
Unknown2008-09-03 21:11:49
No, I don't like cookies, because how can they possibly be used for cooking if I'm sitting on over 3k spices? Gods! Reduce the rate by which they are harvested (heavily) or increase the number that is needed for cookies.. or just put them into every darn cooking recipe. I want to get rid of these spices, they are cluttering my rift.
PS: Or else I'll just start carrying around 1k in my inventory in 1k groups and the next person that kills me dies from spam (or I just log out at the nexus)

I've just about given up on Noola being able to even find sugar.

Uh, the rate at which they can be harvested was heavily reduced. Long, long ago.
There's no real need to reduce it even more, it's pretty low at this point.
Oh, and back when they were common, I'd run off to defend against attacks that occurred while I was harvesting-- and spam Malicia / Amaru with hundreds (or thousands) of spices that didn't fit in my rift when they killed me. It only took an hour or two to get a thousand of the things.
