Well, the time is finally upon us, we can start, gather your gear, ready your equipment, tumble down the proverbial rabbit hole.

This first post will be updated with all revelvant information to the current campaign status, a map of the parties general location will be posted, as well as a overview of what's happened so far. Any specific plot information that you shouldn't loose will also be put here.

When in combat a grid map of what the party can see and the positions of anything relevant, enemies, party members, obstacles and the like will be posted, as well as a table of Initiative.

I will be doing all the rolls, so try to be relatively active. Any information that isn't meant to be released to the party, such as perception tests specific to you, will be sent out in PM, so please check those as well.

You've all gathered here for various reason, if it be treasure, fame or fortune, or just to do the right thing, you have banded together and have planned your adventure deep into the Newton caverns. A rumour has been spread that a group of alien beings has invaded the caverns, over-throwing the lower parts, and forcing the Gnomes into the upper caves.

As you walk through the entrance from Avechna's peak, you notice the corpse of a dead dwarf littering the mouth of the cavern, a rustic dagger plunged deep into his back. The mouth splits into two paths, one with a slight incline upwards, and one with a slow slope. A stench flows up from the lower path, overwhelming your senses. From both paths the sound of grinding machines can be heard.

As the first one to come to their senses after that stench, I want to take a closer look at the corpse (the dagger in particular).

"Well, this little blade is of no use. We must find the evil beings who carried out this vile act! I say we go down. The stench must lead to them!"

"I agree with Xthel... this dwarf was stabbed in the back, and I will not stand for such despicable acts! Before we plunge uselessly into the tunnels, however, let's take a look at this dagger - to know our enemies is to crush them."

I take a look at the dagger, trying to place the design and make. In addition, I try to discern if the blade is clean of poisons or other specific substances.

The robed merian carrying the staff glances from the shoulders of the paladin Xthel. He then raises an eyebrow, thinking deeply, trying to figure out the origin of the dagger. Orti thinks back to his studies in the Arcane arts, his Religious studies and the historic records he read in his youth, to find some clues to the origin of the dagger.

The merian, wielding a shipman's scythe and wearing the clothing of a seaborn adventurer sniffs at the smell coming from below, attempting to determine what sort of stench it is. He looks to the other adventurers in the cavern to ask what has been determined about the blade.

"You know, these gnomes were working on some sort of portal technology. Might be one of the reasons for this one's death. Someone could be trying to steal it from them.", a small figure armored in leathers states, peering into the gloom.

A man holding a spear peers at the dwarf for a moment, trying to figure out his identity. After a moment he glances at Lorick and speaks out, "I bet the portals brought what killed this guy off, then. Think we should go up, and see if there's anyone left with those machines I hear."

((Don't know the procedure, but trying to make a perception/history check to learn whatever.))

From above you, a deep thrumming sound echoes down the corridor, knocking small rocks from the roof. A small shout of elation can be heard before everything goes silent once again.

The sound of shuffling footsteps can be heard coming up the bottom path, the flickering of torches being visible from the mouth of the cavern.

"Well, I can't see anything but it sounds like there are creatures walking around below. I say we attack them quickly while we have the element of surprise on our side!"

I glance down the lower path and nod at Xthel.
"On second thought, yeah, better to take care of the creatures most likely to try to sneak up and try to kill us first. We should make sure we know what we're attacking, though."

"Well, whatever the choice, best make it quick. Down there, that light, it's moving closer." The halfing glances around, looking for cover to hide behind.

After minutes of not speaking a word, and after pondering on the origins of the dagger, Orti finally decides to say something, in the softest way possible.

"Everyone take cover and do not attack until we have a confirmed target." He almost whispers to the group and proceeds to hide on the side of the mouth of the cavern. "Don't be hasty."

In a hushed tone, the Merian in seafairing gear says, "That stench of rotten eggs must be comming from the rumored aliens. Prepare for battle my friends, I fear the those torches will be as darkness, compared to what you shall soon witness."

(I am preparing to cast "dire radiance" as soon as something smelly and unrecognized comes up from the lower path)

With his right hand closed, Orti extends his index and middle finger. The merian then moves his hand and touches the pearl on the tip of his staff and blows slightly on the fingers. The air chills around him the moment his breath touches his skin and his fingertips glow slightly blue. The Aquamancer is getting ready for battle.
