Actually, I don't think that hearing from Shiri or Shadow about thier position is going to tell us anything, about the redscare or its impact.

Redscare likely means that anybody ever associated with capitalism, gets the ability to kill someone with communism, which means they will kill eachother off, I hope.

Redscare yes

Also,

Vote Casilu for the suspicious comments yesterday, about countries.
Shaddus2008-09-11 20:39:22
REDSCARE : NO

I think this is just a ploy to get people to panic. Panic stricken people tend to make bad choices. Damn you, Senator McCarthy!
Doman2008-09-11 21:06:06
The Red scare IRL (I know it might be completely different) was an act against communism, but...it didn't do much more than let people be manipulated.
Ryleth2008-09-11 21:13:15
At a guess REDSCARE prevents a country being turned to communism for a night (or longer). There is a 'scare' of such happening. Another possiblity includes a capitalist reaction on any change to communism (trueman doctrine esq). It probably won't involve a kill as such.

I think this might possibly benefit neutrals, certainly benefit capitalists, hurt communists (basic logic but has to be said). That said any resistance to cults will help neutrals so..

REDSCARE: YES

Lynch: Shaddus

I can't see a way such panic would effect anyone but the capitalist side, game mechanics wise. It's not the greatest of link I know but it's a start. Also daganev, that idea is going a bit far, possibly suspicious there.
Ryleth2008-09-11 21:14:02
of course I mean VOTE: SHADDUS
Furien2008-09-11 21:19:47
Redscare: Yes

Like everyone said, it was a big anti-communist...deal. We're pretty sure we've got both Capitalist and Communist countries around as potential scum, so it might be worth it. Might reconsider in the future.
Diamondais2008-09-11 21:23:18
I guess until something proves otherwise, I'll vote Redscare: Yes.

I'd like to know if anyone has any real information on it relevant to the game, but we'll have to see.
Unknown2008-09-11 21:25:47
Um.. I've never heard of this red scare.. anyone want to give me a history lesson plz?

Also, I think our "nightkills" are going to be the conversions since we are obviously dealing with cults here (the dawn message pretty much confirmed that). In other words, one nation "died" tonight.
Furien2008-09-11 21:27:49
Personally, I link it to McCarthyism and similar events. Basically, a heavy paranoia and persecution of Communist states/persons/organizations. Might have to dig out a book for clarity. Hmm.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_scare

'The term Red Scare has been retroactively applied to two distinct periods of strong anti-Communism in United States history: first from 1917 to 1920, and second from the late 1940s through the late 1950s. These periods were characterized by heightened suspicion of Communists and other radicals, and the fear of widespread infiltration of Communists in U.S. government.'
Casilu2008-09-11 21:30:50
According to the definition, the U.S. may or may not get a sever crippling bonus with the threat of communist infiltration and indoctrination. So, I'm going ot have to go with Shaddus on this one.

Redscare NO

Casilu2008-09-11 21:31:41
Severe, not sever.
Shaddus2008-09-11 21:32:31
Wait, I need to read. So there is neutral, communist, and capitalist, and the last two are the bad ones, right?

Bah, fine. Though I still think the RedScare thing is bad.

For the game that can mean anything..

The obvious one would be a resistance to communism, but this game is backwards enough already that I doubt Rika would go for that.

Other things that popped up in my head range from some sort of "panic" event to a full-fledged witchhunt where we auto-lynch a random person for suspecting them of being communistic.

Communists and Capitalists are the cults we need to beat to win this mafia game it seems.

Btw, how do cults work exactly? If you kill the recruiter the cult lost? Do the remaining members still keep their affiliation though once recruited?

Right, I agree. Could be anything. We might even end up rooting out someone who is Communist just by the sheer paranoia (this is considered the UN, after all).

..Or we might axe a random person by sheer paranoia, I'm not sure how smart politicians are at this time. suspicious.gif

So, we've ascertained that the Red Scare deal is bad. Like I voted. But Ryleth seems to like it, and jumped at the chance to vote for the first person to go against the grain, and see reason.

VOTE: RYLETH

In 1947, politics are not smart at all. laugh.gif The Cold War was very much about build the bigger weapons first and beat the rival in everything.

Well, I'm heading to bed.

Just a gut feeling but I'm going to REDSCARE NO for now.

Not sure on votes yet.

Also going to wait for Nejii before I say anything about the Security Council.
