Just a question, is this something that is still in the works, was nixed or something the admins would like us to brainstorm some more on?
Shiri2008-09-16 14:24:06
I'm pretty sure it was never in the works.

Though it should be!
Revan2008-09-16 14:24:48
I'd like to have monk guards also >.> Give our lazy security something to do!
Shiri2008-09-16 14:27:55
In fact, are there any other aspects in which monks and bards compare unfavourably to other established guilds?

1. Guards/discretionaries.
2. Tradeskill (forging, alchemy, enchantments are all semi-exclusive)
3. Skillchoice options.
4. ???
Lendren2008-09-16 14:51:34
Actually I think the bard guilds are even or almost even with the original guilds in most of those respects now. We really have nothing to complain about. Monks are the ones that really need some loving.
Estarra2008-09-16 15:13:24
No plans for a monk trade skill.
Shurimaru2008-09-16 15:20:20
Well, seriously, what could monks do that no one else could? Package their sweat from hours of grueling training? I just can't really think of anything; the stereotypical monk is usually not very materialistic.

But in the interest of contributing something, maybe monks could have some kind of training thing...for whatever fee, they'll give you a training session, kind of like a lesson, that would give you some kind of boost. Higher skill = better training?

I dunno...I skipped breakfast today. This post is probably best ignored, akshuli.

RL monks have traditionally been bookbinders... and maybe tailors or artisans.
Lendren2008-09-16 16:44:55
Adding a skill to bookbinding that gave some synergy with monks the way forging synergizes with warriors would be a nice touch, but when I spoke of monks needing loving, I thought more of the guards, discretionary powers, and integration with their cities and communes.

Any plans for monks guard / nexus powers? pray.gif

Monks do not need a tradeskill. I would much, much rather monks were given Clairsentience (plus possibly another common tertiary as an alternative to Stealth/Harmony, similar to Warriors and Tracking). Guards/discretionary would be nice, but how many types of guard does an org really need?

It's rather a question of "every guild has them".

Also the monk security position means very very very little without much to use it for. :/ I'd really rather monks got guards and powers. We can always use this thread to brainstorm too, unless that's viewed as thread highjacking and warrants a closing. Then we'll have to make a new one. wink.gif

EDIT: Actually, due to the thread title it -would- be highjacking. I'll make a new one! <3 Eventru

if we don't have guards/discretionary... then what use is Monk security?

There's a new thread! Stop highjacking this one!

Does that mean NO, or "We weren't planning on it, but if we come up with a feasible idea, possibly?"
Kharaen2008-09-16 22:00:17
How about a hunting trade skill? Involving wrangling of some sort? -end hijack-

Let's make tomes function differently for warriors and monks then, plx. Shiri never shuts up about that one. suspicious.gif

What about Chopstick fu? Extra bonuses to eating and gouging out eyes.

Edit:
Earstab Suey
Syntax: EARSTAB

Using your transcendental Chopstick training, slide your chopstick in and rummage around a little, causing deafness, stupidity and scaring the bejeezus out of all onlookers.
Shurimaru2008-09-16 22:09:56
Better yet, a tradeskill similar to artisan where monks make things to break in half with a single well-aimed chop.
And, it, uh...gives a bonus to charisma when you do it.

Rawr; my 100th post.
