I'm not 100% clear on what discretionary powers are.
Can someone give examples of the different ones out there and maybe any ideas on which ones are op or not that helpful so we can try to find a middle ground for the monks?

They're used for commune/city defence. The warrior one buffs guards on prime (not great), the wiccan one buffs guards on ethereal (useless), the druid one webs enemies on prime/ethereal (awesome), the guardian one stuns enemies on cosmic (great), the mage one shunts enemies around on elemental (rage inducing). The bard one is a significant h/m/e and max h/m/e buff on prime or ethereal/cosmic/elemental.
Any used on Ethereal, cosmic or elemental are free because of constructs, though they can be disabled, but the others cost too much power to be worth it and they're pretty much useless anyway.

Cool, thanks. I've come back from an extended leave and Llandros feels a little silly bombarding everyone with a lot of newbish questions.
So, since they seem to be pretty theme oriented and since monks get multiple attacks, maybe one for them could be a minor boost to balence or eq recovery or both with the idea being that they are able to give a small bonus to everyone's rate of attack. A flat bonus to recovery time would probably be easier than trying to make the change just for attacks but that would be the idea of it.

That is a non-terrible idea.
How about guards?

That wouldn't really work for stealth monks though, hm.
Nonsense!
Stealth monks give penance in the dark, and slyly offer indulgences when no one is looking. They can even force the sale of an indulgence on you if they really wanted.
They are just that holy!

Heh, ok.
With a tradeskill it seems like the best thing to do would be to identify a gap in the "market" and then make the flavour for the solution fit monks, rather than coming the other way. Discretionaries and guards you can afford to go flavour first, a tradeskill not so much.

Personally, I think the market is pretty balanced as it is.
But seriously, what more do people need? What product could be made that makes sense for monks to craft?
