Idea: Removal of two monk guilds ...

I have always disagreed with the concept of everything has to be equal. Nothing is ever equal, so why even pretend it to be. In this regard ....

My idea is this. Remove the monks from the communes (Serenwilde and Glomdoring) and leave it in Celest and Magnagora. Let the Celest monks choose to either specialize in using either the tahto or the shofa and let the Magnagora monks either specialize in the nekai or the jakari. It can be rp'ed on how the rigorous training of the class requires a more structured city type environment than what was available in the communes. In turn help flush out the monk class a little more and perhaps help the class fit into the scheme of things better than just being dropped in and say here ya go.

For the communes, give them the lycanthrope class ... similar to what is offered on Aetolia with the Bahkatu and the Atabahi. Two classes there which are required to be in a city, but they don't really fit into the city environment. A lycanthropic class would suit the communes and help to differentiate the cities/communes more.

Both the cities and the communes then would have a unique class that suits their environment. Just a thought.

I don't go for yoinking the wereguilds, but I like the general thought. Maybe some kinda barbarian-ish guild or something?
Doman2008-09-17 15:39:33
I don't think it's right to take something away that they already have. Something for cities and something for communes is a great idea, but taking monks away like that isn't the answer. It WOULD be a cool thing to make a cross-org guild though. Change Tahtetso and Shofangi into a guild that is a part of seren and Celest, and the same for the ill-guilds in Mag and glom

We don't really need to reinforce the current divisions of city/commune. They're stagnant enough! If anything, we need some "major thing" that lumps together Seren/Mag and Celest/Glom, and some other "major thing" that divides everyone along city/commune lines (though this is tricky because of the trade stuff). Something as significant as what the keph/illithoids did, though we seriously don't need another guild to sperad people all over with.

That is a unique idea as well. I never thought of a cross-org guild. The Tahtetso/Shofangi both learned their skillset from the Kephera just as the Nekotai/Ninjakari learned from the Illithoids.

No to cross-org guilds. That ultimatly ensures any combat in the future is Celest/seren v Glom/mag. But the movements of monks sounds a good idea for diversity
Gwylifar2008-09-17 16:32:15
Wereguilds... ick.
Ryleth2008-09-17 16:53:08
And yes, whilst the atabahi concept/skills are quite cool as a guild I don't want to see aetolia copies
Gwylifar2008-09-17 17:50:45
Of course if we take "wereguild" literally, a person who transforms into a guild during certain phases of the moon... Nah, then still ick.

delete monks open gaudi?
Anisu2008-09-17 19:48:01
If they were to delete monks they should not open anything new for quite some time if ever. (They should just make Gaudi, Hallifax and Ackleberry npc places)

Also does not make sense to give monks to cities. Since you know it were the communes that got rewarded with a monk guild first. As to cities (rl or otherwise) being more orderly then a commune, LOL.

however they would never just remove a guild, they would have to pay back a lot of credits that were both invested in lessons and weapon artifacts.
Unknown2008-09-17 19:54:11
Since when did monks ever need a structured city environment for rigorous training?
Unknown2008-09-17 20:11:59
No.
Shurimaru2008-09-17 20:14:26
Even reclusive Shaolin monks lived in a mini-city/temple. Rather than go through with this idea, maybe make the guildhalls for the communes more like little cities?
(If they are, I don't know; I"ve never been to either guildhall for obvious reasons.)
Estarra2008-09-17 20:44:38
Sorry, not closing down guilds or offering two specializations per guild. The one design stand in Lusternia that I'm never going to back away from is that no two guilds will be the same.
Arin2008-09-17 21:46:24
I don't think the idea is that two guilds are the same. After all, Dugan is suggesting specialization that are different between the two city orgs.

As for closing down, perhaps a better solution than "OK because Monk Guilds' skills are better suited for cities, let's just leave the commune hanging" would be to find a way to revamp the skills within the communes to better suit trees, bushes and nuts.
Shurimaru2008-09-17 22:49:13
I personally like having a City-exclusive and Commune exclusive guild.
Yes, there's Mage/Druid and Guardian/Wicca, but I think it'd be really neat if there were 2 totally antipodal archetypes.
Arin2008-09-18 11:55:10
Antipodal....
Shiri2008-09-18 12:20:15
Next best thing would be to give some kind of art-like alternative to music to the city bard guilds and a (I don't know) sculpting one to the Communes, making them play differently rather than almost exactly the same as is the case now. Presumably the same with monks as well. That would alleviate the lack of skillchoice options problem too! Oh, or the bard one could be a Magnawilde/Celendoring division instead, somehow.

Statuettes and busts for Celest and Magnagora (You know, "Modern" sculptures and the busts of important figures) and cave paintings for the communes.
