Cap balance loss, add an immunity timer. Make the stun immunity timer longer. It's sort of like I keep repeating myself over the course of a year or something...

I'm sorry, could you say that again?

I have asked the envoys to review stunning, balance loss, and knight damage. If you have recommendations and/or concerns, please forward it to them so they can evaluate and send it our way.
Celina2008-09-23 03:27:24
Balance loss stacking is an issue, but the solution is not a balance lock cap. Fix the archetypes that can stack balance loss. Ninjakari/Tahtetso/BC. An overall blanket nerf (which the admin seem rather fond of) will end up screwing other people. Mainly Nihilists.

An overall blanket nerf would probably be undesirable as this issue seems to be limited to knights more than other classes. Please feel free to send your recommendations through your envoy. Hopefully the issues experienced will be resolved without affecting the game balance and class viability in a negative way.

1. This is an issue in teams as well as solo. With that in mind:
2. How would you fix it without a balance loss cap?
3. How is it any fairer when only one org can balance lock (Nihilists) rather than now, when any org can do it with BCs?

I'm not yet sure how it should be fixed, which is why I've asked the envoys to come to a consensus through commenting on the issue.

I don't want balance locks to be removed, but it seems clear from player opinion that currently there's too much power in balance loss, making it too easy to "balance lock".

Remove wind and offbalancers from monks. They attack too fast for it to be reasonable. Change the BC version of it to a type of attack that isn't a strike- that way they won't be able to use it 100%, and there'll be a chance they hit the chest/head/etc. instead.

It -will- be slightly fairer. Nihilists require setup for their balance lock. Affliction classes have a hard time 'setting up' in group target, because most targets are moving around too quickly or just die too fast. BCs can just spam roomwide ecto and strike away. Consider that the cost of ectoplasm was (Is?) supposed to rise for it to be used roomwide, too.
Shiri2008-09-23 03:58:08
I don't think the cost of ectoplasm is slated to rise. It wasn't done in the necromancy report for some bizarre reason. Even if it is, it's still a room attack that all necroes have so they can do it very fast and then between contagion and so on, you're screwed. But I guess that's an issue with OP ecto rather than with OP nihilist balance loss.

Rather than removing balance loss from monks, I think the wind moves are losing momentum. And rather than their attacking too fast, they mainly need to be slowed down at higher speed levels (also post-momentum.)
Vathael2008-09-23 03:59:53
Removing wind would be silly. I say leave wind as it is, leave balance loss skills as they are and put a cap on after balance loss has stacked to x point and then give an immunity. This still makes sacrifice a viable kill for a warrior but not possible to completely lock someone out of a fight.

The part about BC warriors is probably the most reasonable and fair solution. I do not have any experience with monks so I couldn't comment on that.

Change wind so that you can't wind while your opponent is winded. "You knock the wind out of so and so. So and so has not recovered their breath." Remove Oolibah. This allows ninjas to still cause balance loss with ninchu+ninombhi but it won't be crazy long, and it won't get longer with oolibah's help. I don't know about tahtetso. Not familiar with them.

Nihilist balance loss requires considerable set up. It's not anything like mashing a kata or wind macro. For one, scabies and epilepsy have a random timer which makes things very unpredictable. I think it's fine for Nihilists to have access to unique balance lock abilities. It should be their kill method IMO. It's the direction the envoy report was trying to take Nihilists, but wasn't fully realized by everyone else.

In summary. Give a balance loss immunity to active balance loss skills. Do not put the immunity on passives like scabies/blacklung.

This might be a horrible idea. Just what I came up with. :/
Shiri2008-09-23 04:37:58
Maybe it's a good idea. You're probably right that wind/kata off-balancing (keep in mind those abilities are being changed with momentum though so they might be balanced already; we'll have to see) is way easier than the Nihilist setup - in solo, anyway (in groups ecto/contagion are cheap and easy room attacks, so that'll still be a problem.)

I should note though that balance loss is one of those kill methods where if the guy does his routine properly, the other guy dies. You can't cure it or anything, you have to wait until either you die or the attacker screws up. That's not ideal.

What difference is there between what happened in this thread and what happened to you? You mentioned parry, but parry stops Bomolini too if you parry the legs, but oh that is easily bypassed with the monk knocking the person prone. Seems BCs can do the same thing, unless there is something that stops wind from working while the person is prone? BCs back then felt that it was impossible to do what was shown in this thread, but now it is known that it was just a matter of using very fast weapons to accomplish the feat.

Anyhow, just Like Bomolini needed/needs a fix, this needs a fix too. Yes, Sacrifice needs balance to stack inorder for it to be possible to pull off, but it does not need it to stack continuously. What ever limit is placed on how much balance stacks, needs to be looked at again. Also, allowing it to stack to a certain point does not exclude the possibility that after the max stack time is reached, that a balance loss immunity timer be placed after the person regains balance. I believe it is possible to balance both sides of this equation that keeps balance loss stacking from being over or underpowered.

Since it's obvious you didn't read my post clearly I'll say it again. Chance necromancy from being based around balance loss to aim for the skillset instakill and then a balance loss nerf can be done in proper order.

Since it's obvious you didn't read my post clearly I'll say it again. Chance necromancy from being based around balance loss to aim for the skillset instakill and then a balance loss nerf can be done in proper order.

Oh, I read your posts. Remember the first post you made, the one where you were trying to point out what Alianna did wrong instead of just acknowledging that there is a problem?

Yeah, I pointed out what she did wrong. There was no problem except she wasn't trans discipline and couldn't stand from the paralysis.

Thoros, can you change those code tags to quote please? I can't -read- this thread anymore.

Or any mod for that matter. Changing code tags to quote tags is a GOOD reason for moderation. content.gif

EDIT: Fixed! I was wondering how to do that. - Mod

An overall blanket nerf would probably be undesirable as this issue seems to be limited to knights more than other classes. Please feel free to send your recommendations through your envoy. Hopefully the issues experienced will be resolved without affecting the game balance and class viability in a negative way.

What envoy?

Most people understand there is -1- class in Lusternia intended to be able to achieve balance lock and they dont do it very well in groups (easier to kill them than balance lock in groups). Nihilists dont need the major smack, they need their kills doable.

Lower stuns or increase immunity (if you drop stun without longer immunity than you will just get hit more often and have alot more windows you are immune). If stuns get nerfed though they made need something else to cope with it. Balance loss can be reduced from BC and reduced/removed from monks as has been said.

This thread, though argumentative at times has basically stated everything we need and gets a seal of approval .

Hi, I'm a Celestian, and I don't have ecto. sad.gif
