For Linux:

You can pick up TinyFugue using the package manager. It won't run if you click on it, though, you have to open terminal, and type "tf". Then connect with /world lusternia.com 23

For Mac:

There are no package managers, but when you download a program for Mac, it usually opens a window that makes you click and drag an icon representing the program into your Applications folder. To remove a program, you just delete it from within the Application folder.

Could someone post a link where I can find the avant garde client? It would be much appreciated!

Avant Garde is the name of Ethelon's combat system for MUSHclient.

Hrm, after receiving some in-game OOC messages regarding Mac Clients, I decided to revisit this thread. I am making some progress and thought I would post an update.

Don't know why I ever wined about Wine installation. The hardest part was installing X11 from my Mac's startup disk. Found directions online from some blogger. Don't know if I could relocate that exact blog, but not to worry-- there is plenty of documentation out there.

Though, I Don't know if X11 was installed right, because afterwards I also had to run updates on all of my core Mac software. This was a PITA because it was time consuming, but otherwise not a problem. With X11 installed, I could DL & Install Wine.

There are several builds/variations on Wine, and this one came out on top: http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ Easy to install-- just drag and drop. Afterwards, download and install MushClient. It should work, PRESTO, no problems.

I started out by exploring a version of the AG system. Since VBScript is not native to Mac's, you will need to tap into TRIX, software which should be included with the Wine installer. Before starting setup on AG, you will need to find the box for "Windows Scripting 5.6, VBSCRIPT" to run the system.

After completely installing the system and updates (thanks to the one-on-one help of a friend), AG was up and running. My initial impression was that this is one comprehensive system. Later forays into simple hunts revealed that AG runs insanely slow.

Not sure why, But I am guessing that I need Wine to run MushClient, and Trix to allow VBscript. Talk about being non-native! After talking with a few tech friendly people, I decided to look for a system written in LUA, as it is more "compatible" (not sure if this is the best way to describe it) with Macs (as VBscript is a Windows coding language).

This points me to using Treant. So, I'm curious to run a side-by-side comparison on how quickly these systems run on a MacBook using MushClient under Wine. However, I can't seem to get Treant to File > New/Open World > Treant > Template.MCL to open, as it always crashes my computer. Not getting a specific error message, and the log file is incomprehensible to me.

Will have to read and reread Treant's directions carefully to see if I can't figure out if I am doing something wrong.

I am keeping my eyes on Mudlet, can't wait for a Mac Beta.

Mudlet should be really good, but I've been using Atlantis for now. It has variables and coding and all that fun stuff, either Perl or Lua and it's actually pretty deep. The next roll of it will be a full version 1. something, and it will be faster and everything else too. I recommend it for now, while you wait. Here's the link to the Forums board. Check it out.

Are you running MUSHclient with the "/wine" command line option/switch? It only cuts out one function call in the startup, but it can make a big difference in the compatibility.

Also, that template world with Treant is meant to be used as a basis for creating your own new world, so I hope that's what you're doing. If you get a crash dump, you might want to share it so that the techies here can translate it for you.

Not sure that I am running MUSHclient with the "/wine" command, which means that it is probably not toggled. Upon opening Template.MCL, I get the following error GUI 100% of the time:

Error

MUSHclient.exe has exited with an error, have a look at the Log window...

I can't seem to cut and paste the log, but all of the error readout is in hex. The beginning reads:

fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet implemented
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x60d64f2f (thread 0024), starting debugger...
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x60d64f2f).

Then it goes through a register dump, a stack dump, and then through a Backtrace. Don't know if you need much more than that... I can look into posting screenshots if this recounting isn't good enough.

Backtrace might be helpful.

My guess is that you're either running a slightly older version of Wine (there are a few flavors floating around and the performance of each build varies with each program you try to run under it) or using that /wine switch will help you by removing some of the Windows-specific controls. In other words, if you were at a command-line and did "wine mushclient.exe" to load it (I really don't know the syntax, as I don't use Wine myself at all) then you'd change that to "wine mushclient.exe /wine" instead.

I'm a little more inclined to think the former though, simply because it says "fixme" and "not yet implemented," which screams "old, not-yet-working build" to me...
